This time I decided to reread it just in time for the release of the movie. This book still makes me laugh. I am not writing a summary of the plot. If you haven't read this book yet then get on it.
The thing that stuck in my mind this time around was that part of the reason Vinnie gave Stephanie FTAs to track down (besides Stephanie blackmailing Vinnie's) was that Morty Byers was in the hospital with a ruptured appendix.
In the past when I read it was a funny little side story that meant nothing (especially after Morty Byers was blown up along with Joe's jeep). But now the part were he is all hunched over at Stephanie's apartment getting his paperwork back on his FTAs had me laughing. Probably because I have been there done that...recently.
I to was sightly hunched over returning to work a week after my appendix ruptured and the surgery that followed. I wasn't looking for people who had skipped bail but sitting in the office was unpleasant.
I guess no matter how many times you read One for the Money you will find a new something to laugh at. (less)

Khaled Hosseini has presented us with a haunting look into the live of Afghanistan people in their home country and their adopted country America. He also shows us the power of fear, redemption and hope all in one book. On more than one occasion while reading this book I had to put it down and go find one of my nieces to hug I was very angered but the end of the book until the last 2-3 pages. The ending of the book was amazingly hopeful about the power of love and persistence.(less)

It centers around Kate who is working as an HR rrep for a New York Newspaper called The Journal. She has a horrible boss and works with her best friend Jen. Her boss Amy asks her to fire the most popular person at the Newspaper Ida (the desserts cart lady). Ida refuses to serves desserts to people she thinks doesnot deserve them (mainly Amy's boyfriend Stuart who is also cheif legal counsel to the paper). A wrongful termination suit is brought against the paper and Kate. Enter Mitchell, Stuart younger brother, who has a nice butt for a lawyer who is going to reprsent the company against Ida. The only problem is Amy agrees with Ida and is completely distracted by Mitchell and his strong shoulders, cute butt and nice lips. Whats a girl to do?
This book was a lot of fun to read. The whole thing is writen in the form of emails, IMs, phone messages, interdepartment memos, dispostions and Kate's Journal. There is even a section where Kate and Jen are in a meeting and they are writting notes back and forth on what appers to be the agenda for the meeting. If you have ever worked in corporate America or want a good laugh on how we communicate in todays electronic world. I highly reccommend this book. (less)

We first meet her at 14 during summer vacation when her older brother brings home a girl for the weekend. From there we see her grow as she searches for her place in the world and looking for love. As we read her story we relate to her frustration at work, her choices in men and her grief when her father is dies. Jane is witty and at times a bit dark. My favorite story is when she meets a man at a friends wedding. She then reading one of those self help books on how to catch a man. The internal dialog she has with the authors of this self help book as she negotates this new relationship made me laugh and shake my head at the same time.
I really enjoyed this book which was one of the first books to start the whole chick lit genre. If you like Bridget Jones' Diary (and I did) you'll like this book.(less)

Her goal to travel back to the 1300s to more accuratley study what life was really like. When the oppurtunity presents itselfs to go back to 1320 she jumps even though her mentor protests its to dangerous. Kirvin is not be stopped and go back she does. But there is a problem (of course there has to be or the book would be very dull). The tech running the "jump" tells them something is wrong and then passes out. The discover that he has some viral infection and an immediate quarantine shuts down the city. as more and more people get sick noone knows what is wrong with Kirvin or is she is alive. In the mean time Kirvin is sick herself and she doesnot know what is wrong she had all her shots and should not be suspetable to diesease from 1320. The story jumps back and forth telling Kirvins story in 1320 and what is happening in the "present". Did something sneak through the time travel "net" to invect modern Oxford or is it a modern virus outbreak. And why is the tech so worried that something went wrong with the "jump".
This book is very interesting and presented a new look at time travel. At times it was a bit wordy but i liked the overall story. I would recomend this to anyone who likes a bit of science fiction mixed in with their history. (less)

After the death of her husband Sally leaves town with her daughters.
One day out of the blue Gillian shows up at Sally's house with her boyfriend dead in the car. To avoid Gillian getting accussed of killing him, they decided to bury him in Sally's backyard. Needless to say this is a bad idea all sorts of things happen after that.
I did not really like this book. It was ok. but I keep getting bored with it and my mind would wonder. I think for the first time I can say the movie was better!!!!!(less)

Because her father has not written in years the family is incrediablly poor. They long ago sold off anything of value and mostly survive on the goodnature of others ie the owner of the castle has not made them pay rent in years. But everything changes that year when the of the castle and estates dies leaving it to a distant American relative. Enter handsome Americans Simon and Neal. Simon is a fan of Cassandra's fathers book (yes their was only 1 book) and starts to visit the family and inviting them over for dinner and parties. Simon is the heir to the estate and everyone in the family thinks it would be a great idea if Rose marries him. Cassandra is torn after Simon proposes to Rose.. Rose claims to love Simon but so does Cassandra.
This was a great story of one girl's coming of age story. We see everything through her eyes and she realises that she may not know her family as well as she thought. And learning something about her self in the process. (less)

Prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor the Phillipines was an American Terriorty. Many American families and soliders lived there. Then the Japanese attack Peral Harbor and start a campaign to roust all the European and Americans out of the Asian countries and the pacific. These let to a bunch of American and some British, Dutch and other countries soilders being trapped in the Phililipines with no way out. The end up surronding to the Japanese and are taken prisioner. As true in most accounts of any POW camp but especially true in Japanese POW camps the atrocities that were commited are beyond understanding. Eventually the U.S. returns to the Phillipines and decided to launch a rescue mission on the Camp. This book jumps back and forth to tell the story. It starts with a why the army decided to send in a new and untest branch of the military, The Army Ranagers, and then goes back to the time when the U.S. Army on Bataan surrurender to the Japanese. It talks about what was going on Politically and mililtarilly at that time. It then goes back and forth to the Ranger planning their rescue mission and the trial and tribulations the POWs endured. Ending of course with the rescue of the POWs with only 2 dead rangers and 2 dead POWs (who were so weak from illness and malnutrtion they would not had lived for very long) I found this book to be very emotionial. So be prepared also is is about war and that is never pretty. There is some language and graphic descriptions of the horrors that occured. But it is based on Journals and 1st hand accounts of those who lived it. Overall I reccomend this book.(less)

This is a reread, I originally read this book in 2007 and really liked it but stopped reading the series after book 6 or 7. I was unhappy with the direction the characters were taking. A friend told me that the books get good again after about book 9 so I decided to reread the series. I enjoyed this first book as much now as I did 4 years ago. Anita is a kick ass character and fun to read. The plots are originally or at least original to me and I feel don't feel like I am reading the same story over again. A great book to read if you are a fan of the paranormal/urban fantasy genre.(less)

I really enjoyed this book it was a quick fun read. And although it is the first book in a series it does not leave you hanging and wraps up all the strings very nicely. (less)
