And her heart still feels the sting.
So to save the reputation of her beloved foundation, Elliot is out to prove Jane's innocence. And if she happens to beat Lieutenant Ransom at his own game, so be it!
Elliot was a great character and taking the journey with her as she seeks to uncover the murderer was a fun ride. I enjoyed the descriptions of Island life and the characters who live there. The touch of romance between Elliot and her two suitors was delicious. Lots of laugh out loud moments. Can't wait for the next installment! ...more

Desperate for work, she takes a complicated undercover job at a casino in Biloxi, Mississippi. But her dream job isn't as fab as advertised. She can't quite trust her boss or his secretive secretary. The cabbie who lives out of his car and gives her occasional advice and reluctant rides seems to know more than he's telling. And somehow, her jerk of an ex-ex-husband is involved in scamming the casino. Davis is determined to sort it all out, but as her life unravels, can she stay out of trouble long enough to catch a killer and solve a whammy of a mystery?
Gretchen Archer has crafted a character in Davis Way that is engaging, smart, and snarky, with a tenacious attitude that gets her into brilliant complications. While Double Whammy was laugh out loud funny (seriously--I was reading at the doctor's office and started cracking up before I remembered where I was), all of the characters showed depth and emotion that made this book a thoroughly pleasurable read. I loved every second of it and can't wait for the next installment. ...more

WhShoe lover and ace reporter, Nichelle Clarke, has a dream--to work for the Washington Post. Until then, she's doing time at the Richmond Telegraph. When she discovers a drug-related murder that seems like a more like a vigilante killing, Nichelle simply follows the trail.
Suddenly, an ex-baseball player and the sports columnist for the paper, Parker, takes notice of Nichelle. But when he turns up at the river where two law enforcement officers die in a police boat accident, she wonders if his interest is personal or business. As Nichelle keeps investigating the story, she discovers there's something strange about the boat incident. Not knowing whom to trust, she confides in her soft-hearted editor and mentor, Bob. But soon dire circumstances make it impossible to rely on anyone but herself.
As she digs deeper, Nichelle links the stories together and finds herself in hot water with a sexy Mafia boss, in competition with her newsroom rival, and uncovers evidence that could very well cost Nichelle her life.
I loved this book and Nichelle. She's a funny, likable, well-rounded heroine who's tenacious and smart. She was a real person, with faults and hopes and humor. I enjoyed getting to know her. The secondary characters popped right off the page. And I never saw the end coming! It was a great mystery and I can't wait to read the next Nichelle Clarke book.
