And while I found some of the figurative language surprising and beautiful, some was downright distracting. The whole "eating colors" thing drove me crazy. Death as narrator was gimmicky.
Yeah, I should probably take away one star at least for all that, but I don't feel like it today. It's original. I love the characters. I love it as an intelligent book for teens. I appreciate where Zusak was going with this and what he accomplished.
I would never want my children to read this book *instead of* Anne Frank, Elie Wiesel, or Corrie Ten Boom, but I think it's a wonderful addition. (less)
