I loved his books honolulu and molokai, but this was just painful to read. I bought it at full price and wish i had not, so i could stop reading it! The subject matter, carnivals and amusement parks mid-century is just not my cup of tea. The characters were not engaging nor likeable. I hope mr. Brennert writes a new book soon to make up for this book!(less)

It was a slow cumbersom read. It took me over two weeks to finish and shoul not have. The premise was interesting but I began to feel bad for being who I am and what I have. I guess I do not understand why the housekeeper did not pick up the phone and call one of the parents. Anyone, no matter what race, color or economic standing would have picked up the phone first! Especially with all the ways to contact people these days. I am glad I waited for it to come out in paperback!(less)

I am sorry I missed Ms. Gee at Vromans. I would have liked to see if she is as bubbly as she writes. It was a quick enjoyable read. It gave me insight into a country and people I know so little about and helped me understand the caste system and how it still survives in this day and time. It was interesting to see how Ajay's family came to accept Ms. Gee and how she came to understand them. It was distracting that she used Indian words and did not explain most of them. So you either kept with the book and its flow or stopped, disrupted the story and looked up the word. It was not a profound story but a very enjoyable story and proof that love and childish fantasies do come true!(less)
