Somehow we feel entitled to an easy and carefree life filled only with good things.
Our grandparents knew differently. Life was filled with hardship and heartache. Yet, there were these treasured moments too. More than that though, there was trust and faith that things were exactly as they should be.
There’s a beautiful analogy in this story about faith and trust, a man pushing a wheelbarrow across a tightrope. Do you have faith that he can do it a second time? Do you trust that enough to sit in that wheel barrow as he does so? That’s the difference between faith in God and trusting what is. (less)

Whole university level courses explore particular aspects and the connection to a specific religion. It’s all very fascinating, whether your focus is the movies or religion.
Living the Jedi Way does a very nice job of summarizing and clarifying much of this vast bulk of work. Moreover, the author takes this theoretical research and connects it to real life practice. Practice not just for people who love Star Wars but for everyone. It’s actually a very nicely set out model. Well worth a look. (less)

Each object has a name, a symbolic descriptor of that particular physical thing. Just imagine what might happen if words starting disappearing. If every chair in the world suddenly vanished before our eyes and the whole concept of a chair ceased to exist.
What if it were a concept that ceased to exist? How would our world change without the concepts of love, freedom, or compassion? Taking away objects might make things disappear but the disappearance of certain concept words might actually threaten to unravel existence.
The Unraveling of Wentwater begins with a prophecy. A child is prophesized to unravel the town of Wentworth. Indirectly, this girl does start a sequence that does threatens to destroy all of creation but is the potential within her to also undo the destruction.
The Unraveling of Wentwater is a powerful book. It starts with a wondering about the importance of words, knowledge, magic, and superstition. Then, there’s a love triangle, bringing with it the force to destroy or to create. (less)

Not based upon a particular dogma or some intangible ideal but in our subconscious programming. If we know how, we can literally change the way we think and the way we perceive our reality. Secrets of Passion lights the way.
Secrets of Passion explores the mind and the nature of reality. We tend to accept that our particular life circumstances are concrete facts of life. Yet, in general, we are reacting to our beliefs (our automatic programming) about these situations. This begs the question what would happen if we changed our perceptions.
Secrets of Passion presents several layers of action to modify subconscious programming. At the surface, we are asked to slow down, be mindful, and to resist judgment about life events. Then, at the subconscious level, we make use of scripts and other techniques to create new thought patterns. In between, we are directing our goals based upon the things that truly matter. In this way, we are tackling the mind problem from several different angles to increase our chances of success. (less)

Often, when individuals begin meditating, they are very dogmatic in their approach. They rigidly focus on form, sitting straight up and trying to attain the perfect half lotus.
In concentrating on form though, they often miss the real, deeper purpose of meditation. These surficial aspects are merely ways of getting past the physical so that one can soften fully into the practice. Some things cannot be forced, they have to be experienced.
Breathing through the Whole Body is a beautiful book, somewhat meditative in and of itself. It examines each part of the deepening, explaining things like why our spine needs to be straight and why we focus on the breath. The overall purpose isn’t to look good but to find that inner quietness and rooted balance that will ultimately bring forth whole body breathing. (less)

Despite his lack of traditional training, he has had shamanic-like experience where he is transported to the time of his ancestors. Indeed, he actually becomes his ancestor. Captivated, Jake is drawn to the symbol of the Raven.
Evidentially, Jake is not the only one interested in this symbolism. His archaeological rival Vincent has made the discovery of the century. Yet, before he can present his findings, he is murdered in the most mysterious way. All signs lead to Jake but there is something far more dangerous at work here.
Raven’s Blood meshes archaeology, mythology, native spirituality, and adventure into a very entertaining package. Loved the premise. (less)
