Deryn Collier`s debut novel is more like an already established series. I was really impressed by her style. Collier`s writing is mature, thoughtful and well-rounded.
The characters are well-formed and realistic. I immediately liked Bern Fortin, the coroner, and can`t wait to learn more of his layered past. The entire "whodunnit" storyline will keep you wanting to discover more and more. It`s a "curl-up and hang the do-not-disturb sign" book.
Deryn Collier is well on her way to belonging on the bookshelves of all traditional mystery readers. I eagerly look forward to her next novel..!!(less)

It's always interesting to realize that everyone sometimes feels a little lost or out of sync with their world...though some are more intense than others!!
So, I congratulate Suzanne on being able to find 'her way home.' While I wouldn't call this a 'self-help' book I would suggest it for anyone on a personal journey. It verifies that to find our paths we must first look and "see" inside ourselves.
This memoir will give inspiration, open-mindedness, and sharing of personal growth for those looking to find their own way home.(less)

Wow!...and that's just a glimpse into the world of Arcadia. I can only simply say this is a must read. Alecia Stone has taken a quartet of four friends on a magical journey to the ends of the earth.
Any YA reader will love to escape into the pages of this book. It is a fantastical adventure; a quest that hooks you from the beginning. Stone's imagination is endless. The beauty of nature, the glory of good, and the creatures that come out and grab you to let you know evil lurks right around the next page.
Alecia Stone also inspires readers of any age with a myriad of themes. Heaven and Hell. The supernatural. The "myths'" of mythology. The power of friendship and ultimately, looking into your heart and knowing where you belong and the strength of who you are.

She has taken mountains of research and interviews to bring to us a case of child abuse in a most honest and soul-searching accomplishment.
Obviously I can't exactly comment on the "story" of this book. I mean, it's a foregone conclusion that it will tear at anyone's heart. I am certainly not oblivious to the immorality and cruelty in society, but the fact that this happened so recently and how/why is still truly disturbing. I think I spent every page shaking my head in pure astonishment and frustration.
K.S.Z passes on the information through this book in a very conscientious manner for the reader. This is not a book of detailed abuse. Yes, all the facts and evidence are revealed but strictly by and for integrity to the crime. K.S.Z does not plant images in the readers head any more than one's imagination can handle. Her adept handling of this human tragedy is aimed more importantly at searching for answers to difficult questions.
How did things get so far? so irresponsibly handled? Why were the proper steps not taken? so blatantly mishandled? K.S.Z masterfully places such queries to those involved, to us as readers, and ultimately and most importantly to those who can make the changes necessary for the protection of our greatest miracles-our children.
I suppose no one actually "wants" to hear about domestic abuse that leads to the death of a child, but this is one book that should be read. It is a intense, thought-provoking read that will most definately not the silence the questions it asks of past and the future humanity. (less)
