This Book take the the teenage heroine. A girl that has to hunt to survive and places her in a futuristic roman gladiatorial ring. all the "tributes" are children between 12-18, two from each district (colony) and have to survive harse environment and have to face each other to the death. All the Tributes are randomly chosen and the only way to get out of it is for someone else to volunteer. The book is rather bloody.
Taken from the point of view of districts 12's Katniss, a 16 teen year old girl who is volunteer for her little sister as tribute, she has to go to the capital to be show cased and then to the arena where she will have a few weeks to survive and be the last one.
She is written in such a way that you can identify with her. Though you are heart sick for a few other of the tributes that she comes to care about. Rue a district 11, 12 year old who is as sweet as can be. Peeta, other district 12 tribute, who is truly in love with Katness, and Thrush who the male district 11's tribute, who care about Rue. And even in the end Pities Cato, Katness's mortal enemy.
Action pack, lots of twists and turns and the beginning of a love story. Hunger games are enjoyable to read or listen to. I plan on either reading or listening for the next books.
As a side note, I think the movie looks good. and I do plan on watching it. Hoping to enjoy it.
so to update. just reread this book and loved thr movie. though original katniss was my favorite character. i am firmly a peeta fan by the end. i personal would love if (just for the sake of the fans ) a pov book would be rewrite at key parts of different characters. peeta mostly but a few gale, prim, hamish, cenia, joanna, and so on. i just really want to inhabit thier minds too. i would be happy with just peeta pov though.

Then i my husband and one of my Best friends talked about it constantly, especially when the movie came out. Still didn't pick up the book. Why? for varies reasons (ironically i did something similar with piers Anthony) and kept it on my pile.
So what do i think about his book! Well i think i read the prolog three times in a row because it was that funny. This book is a fun adventure that throws random stuff at you and then later ties in up, the crew of the Heart of Gold are quirky. My favorite is Marvin, who i could not help but read it in alan rickmens voice.
even though i pretty much knew the whole story going in, it still was amazing read, take someone that hasn't really watched the movie and have them read this, they would fall in love. This was the prefect book to come back to syfy with. (less)

I was 12 when i read it, and didn't send it to the second place spot until I read George RR Martin. This story was one of then that I have never stopped thinking about. I think even adults should read to get an idea of a great story line and amazing characters. Thank you Bruce for a truely great story(less)

And as usual, I was not disappointed, be in music, movies, or books.
With that said. The Book. at first, I thought i was going to be bored with it. The Intro was just bland.. I was worried that the book was going to be written the same way. Looking back.. it was written like a old history book. which, is actually prefect. I am glad It started out that way. because when the book actually starts. It something you don't want to put down.
I would say that it is a very loose take on Romano and Juliet. But The Queen, is more like Romano. Juliet is a pissed off prince (take Juliet and mix her personalty with Paris) and is of course is kidnapped, by the Mercutio character blade. Though other then the relationship with the queen is nothing like Mercutio.. He hates the prince because he is a Cotti.
The two countries Jashimari and Cotti have been fighting for so long that they can't remember why it started. And most the countries economy is focus on the continuation of the war... No one wants it to stop. Except the New Queen.
Most of the story is following the story of blade. Blade is an Assassin, that hates Cotti because they killed his whole family in front of him, enslaved him, and took his family jewels when he was like 12 years old. He became an Assassin because, that was what he was good at.
Though events, this assassin becomes a lord, an adviser to the Queen, her best friend, and hated by most the court. At top of that he has to put him self in all sort of dangers to make sure the queens plans work... at the same times keeps telling everyone that he cares for nothing. (he does)
Oh i forgot to mention that people have familiars. so people are described by their familiar to animals. from what i gather, this animals are live long attachments. Any animal can be a familiar and when they are attacted to a human they became more intelligent, and the humans take on more of their traits. Also human personalities are generally like there familiars like people today are discribed by their horoscope sign.
This book also some what covers the politics of the the to country. with treason's murders and hidden agendas. (less)

Katniss is home dealling with the changes for the game. also she is going though a form of PTSD with the nightmares. Peeta isn't talking to her and Gale is distant. Though the only real comfort that works for her is peeta, when the nightmares come.
On top of that, her actions in the game, The berries. have started a revolution. She and peeta try to stop it, but it's to late.
During the book Katniss really start to question her feelings for Peeta and Gale. letting Peeta into the walls she has built and even willing to sacrifice herself to save him. It is starting to be evident that she is in love with Peeta, but doesn't realize it yet. Peeta, always knowing his feelings, fights for her protection.
Peeta and Katniss has to go back in the games, this time with over victors of the games. giving us the fast pace and bloody style of the story. But adding strong elements to the story. because while our heroes try to survive. District 13 is fanning the girl on fires flames.
while the games go on the Katniss's world is changed forever.
where the last book left with some hope of peeta and katniss to be happy, this book leaves us with the absolute fear that they will forever be parted. where Book 1 was about surviving the odds, This one is about the start of a revolution and unsure alliances. Catching Fire has more Heartstings then the first book. with the exception of rue. who maybe gone... but never, ever forgotten.

First, it starts out with Katniss in the remains of the district twelve. Peeta is missing and Katniss is in a state of shock. I would like to state that i don't like district 13 from the get go. They are the captial of another name. Coin is to me just a evil as Snow but of a different nature. The districts are in a raging war and Katniss is the symbol. But 13 makes sure that they sadate her too much and as long as she plays pretty then they will give in to a little of her ways like a spoiled child. Katniss being in shock, and not wanting to feel allows herself be fooled. Gale shows how much of and idoit he is.
And poor poor peeta, these to are so damage by the end of the book i am surprised they find a happy ending. but really that is the only happyness in the whole book.
I have to say Suzanne Collins is an awesome writer. It makes me wonder if she is a journeyist the way she can cut the scenes, and gives sides of the preception that most would have never of thought of. It is brilliant. I don't like what happens in the war zone, and i know i am not suppose to, but the little girl in the yellow dress and the children that were in the front of the mansion.
Also i mourn for all the other people that were trapped in the war. I can't help but think that if katniss wasn't as foolish and more self assured she could have have avoided all the death. but then the books wouldn't be as priceless as they are.
update. the ending was more depressing tge second time. i think that it was not only the need to finish thier story together but a litt more of the reconnecting for them. again we need a peeta POV(less)

Now that said... this book was LONG and was not my favorite of the four(i still loved it). so much went on, or more of.... the battles took so long.
Usually i don't mind this. However, Murtagh finally played a great part, and IT WASN'T enough!!! I wanted more brotherly love... i wanted more of him. He was one of my favorite characters in the first book. I was sad every time he and thorn started to fight. I hated it! really, the relationship with Eragon, Roran, and Murtagh could have been so much powerful... but instead... Chris dropped the BALL. WHY.
I have to say... I love the hidden eggs. I loved the fight with the King. and I loved the pick up with Murtagh and Nasuada. but I wanted more.
Also, the book was so long after they won the battle.... wow. It was just dragging. I get that it was important... that we need to see it... but, I was so drained by the end. Though... i don't see how he could have avoided it, without leaving so many questions..But where was all stuff that Angela promised to explain.
Brom... the Brom seen made me cry. On one hand.. I wanted him to try to bring Brom back... but on the other hand, that would have taken away from the story. so... i will just have to cry and agree.
I love the fact that arya is a dragon rider. and I Believe that he ended their story well.
BUT back to Murtagh... AGH. really... this will leave me so so annoyed. I would have been happy if in the end... I mean the very end... when Saphira said "We are not alone" that there was a hit of red in the sky... as if he came back. then I would have been satisfied...But NO! not NOW...
NOW CHRIS... YOU NEED TO WRITE A BOOK TELLING MURTAGH POINT OF VIEW, AFTER HE LEFT. Just one, ending it with either Nasuada or Eragon...Or my favorite...both... traveling back and forth as the protect of the land and the carrier of the eggs... just saying. HE NEEDS HIS HAPPY ENDING!!!
but thank you so much for not killing him. Really, Thank you!
I would say.. That i look forward to read more of Chris's books. I would love to read a Syfy, star ship... really any fantasy... or modern day fantasy even... just Please... no sparkly vampires...

What is it about blade that makes everyone loves him some much! including the readers. He is a cold hearted, anger person that doesn't waver. He so far, is true to his character! Though he doesn't seem to grow, but he does get in-tangled in everyone's live, and he hates it.
We last left off, with him shot in the back. Oh joy, lucky for him, a soldier finds him, and then refuses to let him die, never mind there was an arrow in his back.
Though out the the whole book Blade is wounded. he doesn't let his wounds heal and either does the queen or his guild.
Mean while the Queen gets ready to give birth to her Half Cotti daughter. And as she expected, some of her nobles try and kill her daughter Kerra who will be a queen in less then a month old.
also the Queen has Blade marry her chief advisor... this his horror. though she loves him, he can't love her. though, he always makes sure that she is protected. He even told her, that she is Most likely the only person save from his blade, being the ONLY assassin wife in history. There is an interesting bed scene... I would say Unique.
Meanwhile our Cotti Prince because king and plays learns the fine are Of Politics... ohh and figures out the way to save the Queen from the The Poison of the Queens cup. YAY. especial since Blade is taking it too.
This also shows Blades character. He stays with the Queen when she dranks the cup, and Protects her until the princes gets there before taking the reason of the Cup himself. Not knowing there is an antidote.
You would figure the books ends here... but no that would be logical. It is only half way though, the rest is Blade, Karrion (the king) and Minna (the queen) traveling to Cotti and then blade going to poison, because he refuse to Help the king... i have to the say, Yes the king is an idiot.
Because of this, We leave off with Blade about to be Crippled by other Prisoners of his country. Oh, blade, will you ever have ending where you not going to be wounded.

1st, they southern culture, a little over done... but yes there are people and communities that are like this is some pockets. so the imaging of the a whole town like this is amazing.
2nd. Ethan. it was refreshing for the story to be told by the guys point of view. Here is a character that gets annoyed, not unreasonable most the time, and will say it. He had to be the believer and in everything and keep up moral, while his girlfriend was super powerful and unsure... the dynamic is the same but so different because Lena, was a girl... and really a typical one in attitude. She has to grow into the person that she needs to be not is precut to that person. Ethan really wasn't shelter and had to survive a normal life with be well... a closet nerd. He was made of stronger stuff which helped boost Lena to get that she can be strong.
3. ridley( is that spelling) was a great antagist. though i think she could have more parts. but over all she is the villian we love.
4. Macon... AH macon, NOT A VAMPIRE YAY!!!
The books wasn't perfect but it's one i wouldn't mind my soon to be tween to read and dream about. Ethan is in the same list as peeta. Boys that girls should look for in a boyfriend. It's a great fun read... but total romance... at lease there is no Sparkly vampires.

This...moreOut of all her books including the two that leads up to this one there is nothing she has written that is so beautiful as the hour of this book. This was one time when i thought the love that was written was pure and beautiful, there is was no abuse to it there was no lack of understanding. I was lust and desire, friendship and understanding.
I have always hated the love of twilight, because, well read any comment and review i have posted on it. I have always feared that girls will look upon that sick idea of love and think that is prefect. NO.
No Cassandra Clare and summed up what type a person I would want my girls to find. In Jem who is understanding and gentle, in Will how is sarcastic and rude, but loves true. Gabriel how is loyal and proud, also loves whole hearted. Cecily, who will not take the crap but will listen be be there. Every person here is flawed, and everyone is a great example what you should look for.
However the Triangle. I could never say i was Team Jem... and in must cases i wouldn't because Jem is similar to the whinny vampires (Stephen, angel, bill, Edward...) but he wasn't whinny, he was written beautifully and my heart ached for him. Nor could i say I am Team Will, who is one that I would have picked because I love this archetype, because i loved Jem so much. And Tessa, I liked tessa as was written.
But the love of Jem and Will was a pure as you would see in relationships like dragon riders or the trills and thier symbioses in star trek. The where the twins that never resented each other. Then you have Tess, and you are like, wait how dare she comes between them!! but no, she is the completion of the two. We will never find a relationship like this real life, but you know what. they are magically connected and she is a warlock... they get leeway.
Okay so story picks off with wedding plans. OF course this is when Gabriel Lightwood would have to come and give them the news that he needs helps, that his father is a worm. <--- poor Will holding in his jokes. and Gabriel having to make the decision to kill him. And of course he falls on our patched-up family, with a lot of tempatation to betray them.
Gideon loves of Sophie progresses sweetly and as a nice little side, as is Gabriel and Cecily was of course. Oh well, the fact that Jace in the Future is adopted by lightwoods.... I will take it. (also the fact that Alec looks So much like Will means that this branch of light woods come from Gabriel and Cecily... )
SO it was all drama and angst... Jem used up all his drugs, Mortmain Took it all, Will pissed that Cecily is there, Cecily falling in love with shadowhunter world, Wayland trying to get rid of Charlet. Maganus and his wonderfulness, Jems death, Will cry's gets trapped with Tessa, Makes love.... Maganus. Getting trap by infernal devices, Finds Jem is alive, every one is about dead. And Tess Became an angel........ After I thought she drag it out with Tessa and Will.... and At the propose but no we keep getting it dragged out to meet the family. ok starting to get annoyed. That is until we come to current setting. We get to see a summary of Tessa and will's life together at his death bed. Then at the end... Jem and Tessa. So you know what PEOPLE I didn't choose and I WON! I thought it was going to ending that i wanted... i did... That is until the the cure... YAY. thank you Claire for that.
Now this is the end of my sappy rant. I will miss Jem and will... and i am sad for you to go.
Beauty is a Boy, and a prince. He is a clueless shallow bookworm. He is similar to many of the characters the series. however, his father is killed transporting Dracula, who we met with peter pan's story. he was hijacked at sea by Captain hook. and left for at sea for day, until he lands on at the castle of East of the sun, west of the moon. Which we know from a story of the same name. He meets the beast who is his a girl who traps him, tortures him, and chains him to a bed. and not in the kinky way. Get your mind out of the gutter people, this is a young adults book.
While navigating the whims of the beast, He has dreams and speaks to a mirror.... Oh yea, that mirror! ( you know what i am talking about if your read previous dairies). Who tricks him into starting to fall in love with the beast, then tricks him into killing her... well this is Mary we are talking about. So nope Beast turns back into beauty and Beauty turns into a beast. She leaves. he waits, until he his "his heart turns into a beast" and he does black magic to bring A beauty to his castle. and through the series of events which we know from reading the beauty and the beast, is bells father... however, her name is Villeneuve, who has forgotten that she was a beast... we know the rest
Reason i liked this, At the end. The beast (princes) had not given up on "belle" and made so she would come back and let her choose to save him. Knowing that he would free her, and let her truly choice. I think i like this one because it made the real story seem sweeter to me. none of the rest has really done this yet.. so this i like. ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>(less)
Ok so most this book was Nora whining about trying to stay way from patch... however... she did... until the end... and for good reason....
It's easy...moreOk so most this book was Nora whining about trying to stay way from patch... however... she did... until the end... and for good reason....
It's easy to read.. isn't fun to read, But is it pushing any real points on any issue. NOPE.
BUT i really got hooked with that ending. I am a sap for these endings and YES i will read the next book... in fact i may just go and buy it now.
SO far this is what i have to say if you want to read this book
there is a decent twist. The girl isn't another weak bella. fun to read Patch is always the asshole character that we love to read about.
BUT this is a total romance with few other points in the plot so far. Nora can be dumb at times (actually i think she is close to normal reaction) half the book is only really about them fighting AND parts seem to drag others parts seem rushed. (less)
