Edited to add this last bit after I finished reading all the stories.

I made myself read it...the first years of my married life my husband was deployed for months at a time. It was very hard, is all I can say. But what Siobhan Fallon portrays, with yearlong deployments the norm, is much harder to bear. How will these men, women, and children ever have happiness if this is their life? Because, hard though it is, and primarily because it IS hard, men especially are drawn to it like a moth to a light, my son being one.(less)
