I have even read one book about his son but never about a daughter descended from Van Helsing. This story is about a daughter of Van Helsing’s last living relative.
The setting is unusual for vampires but I like it. The book is set in a tropical island and makes this book completely unique. The author really did a great job of creating an atmosphere of secrecy, mystery and danger wrapped in a tropical vacation island.
The characters were perfect. I really enjoy Ryan and I like him but I love Eli. I can’t wait to read more about these two. Thank heavens that Liberty’s ex-boyfriend is no longer in the picture from the states. Although I have to say it might be nice in a future book if he tries to get her back and travels to the island on say a full moon? Sorry but there is nothing like a little revenge and he was a jerk. Liberty herself showed a good range of emotions in this story and even though the circumstances that make her come to the Island did seem a little fishy I can’t help but think I probably would have gone to the Island also.
The story moved along at a great pace and even though it was a bit shorter that what I like it felt like I had read a full length novel. It really gave you a great place to start off in the series and filled in the background and introduced you to the world perfectly.
All in all a great book and series and I really can’t wait to read the next in the series.

I stayed up until 3am just so I wouldn’t have to stop reading this book until I finished. I am happy with the way the book turned out and her choice. It was an excellent ending. I can’t imagine having Tessa’s gift and having to choose someone before she turns seventeen.
What I loved about this book was well everything especially Morik and his eyes. It had bad things that were good and good people who were bad and just plain bad things that were bad. I also liked how the choice just doesn’t come easy for Tessa. She views it as even if they are happy she is sentencing someone to an early death. I can completely understand how she feels.
The plot in this book had several surprises and twists to it that kept me breathless and wanting more. It moved along nicely with no parts to it that felt slow. The drama and the two boys from the incident were a nice addition to the story. I was worried about Morik there for a while. I wouldn’t mind revisiting this world again to see what happens next for Tessa and her family.
What I didn’t like, well I can’t think of anything at this point that I didn’t like. I absolutely loved Morik and the creature that chases her at night was a great addition to the story. I am glad that she found a friend and her family seems to be in a good place by the end of the book.
I will absolutely check out other books by this author. I definitely recommend checking out this story. I give the story 5 stars and if I could give it more I would.

For one it was funny not just once or twice but quite a few times and I was expecting a more serious book. This was number eleven in a series and I had not read any of the other books. However this book does work as a standalone so if it sounds interesting go ahead and read it.
What I liked about the book was the overall plot and the fact that all the pirates were women. It was different and now the same old Pirate or Viking story. I was also pleasantly surprised with the humor contained in the story as some of it had me laughing out loud. The author did a great job building the characters and the world. Also I love Viking stories.
What I did not like was some of the humor was a little corny and it just didn’t all work for me. Of course this is entirely just a preference thing with me and not the author’s fault. I found myself rolling my eyes at times or skimming a few parts in the story. I did wish there was a little more sword/axe play in the story also.
All in all it was a good book even though I would have preferred it to be a little more serious in some parts. Even though it was different than what I was expecting I still recommend reading it.
