In this magnificent book by Vamos Samantha, we see that animals help the farm maiden create this delicious pudding through out the whole book. As animals keep showing up in the pages and a tongue~twisting paragraphs and full sentences will keep a smile on your face. The beautiful illustrations done By Rafael Lopez in every page bring the characters and the movements come to life and dance across the pages. I really recommend this book as a fun way to introduce a food unit where children can have fun trying to read the sentences and admire the illustrations.(less)

This book gives a completely new look of the queen that is not a simple and boring tale of a normal queen on Egypt. This is a great biography book where we are placed in her time and are taken to the beautiful ancient Egypt looked, as well as their art work. Throughout this book we can see that Diane, the illustrator really took the time to place and draw every single little square that is a prominent skim for the architectural works and the writings on the walls in the pages, and the coloring was a great cool color that we might expect to find the illustrations of that time to be like. I thought this books could be used for a report on Cleopatra as well as an example of ancient Egypt's architectural works and simple jet beautiful segments of colors. (less)

Their incredable journey is told in this book where we learn that turtles travel to the beach to lay their eggs, where plancton so small that we may not see with the naked eye travel up and down in to the depts of the ocean in a day and where salmon swim up river for miles to lay their eggs. The amazing stories and travels of these animals are all written in a fun informative way where the illistrations done by Elsa Warnick does an incredable job drawing and painting the animals that the book portraits. The cover of the book was a great example and made me confident that this was the right book for children. The illustrations are not just simple drawings but may look like real animals, drawn in perspective of how we would see the planton and the whale along with their babies and families. Great book when talking about the many animals in the oceans and their lives. (less)

Bunting in this book tells us about a boy and his mother who live in Los Angeles and witness the riots that are happening around their building and how they themselves need to evacuate the bulding because during the riot it got set on fire. Runing and going to a shelter the little boy hopes that his cat made it and was not in the burning fire, and he later comes to find out that a fireman found his cat and it is safe. He also realizes that his cat had huddle together eith a neighbor cat who's owner had always kept a distance because of the differences that they had. Thanks to the cats they realize that differences or not they are together and have survived the riots together. The illustrator David Dias does a good job portraing what the author is writting and forming images on the pages, thanks to his simple colorings we get the inside view of what the little boy sees and how the cats at the end are rescue and the grown ups are content that no one was hurt and that they get to start a new begining where everyone can help each other.(less)

The fun adventures that Clementine goes through on a regular week make this book fun to read, and as an adult, we obtain a great view of how a young girl like Clementine thinks and how she reasons events and things on an every day basis; From helping her friend cut off all her hair, to coloring it with permanent marker, to helping her father get rid of the pigeons in their building, the fun adventures and the trouble that follows behind Clementine makes reading this books an enjoyment. The illustrator Marla Frazee makes the drawings in the book come to life as we read the book page by page. The hilarious portraits that Clementine draws are fun to look at and we as the reader can get a detail description of what Clementine sees and represents. The drawing in general help make the book more fun to read and makes it entertaining to the reader. It is a type of book that will make you smile as you read along.I had a great time reading and viewing the fun drawings in the book and i recomend it to anyone who picks up this book.(less)

Even though the book is full of text with very few sketches representing new chapters. What Fritz did to make Pocahonta come to life on the pages, was to do reasearch on how the Indian's life was, of the time and in general. At the very begining of the book we are taken to Pocahonta's world, how she worships the son and gives thanks to the gods for each and every morning, and how she and all her trive give thanks at night as well. Knowing a little bit of her background and social life in the trive we are seeing Pocahontas in her Indian roots. In the book we also read about John Smith who was in her life for a long time when she was young. Later unfortanitely they both part and their special bond is broken. We learn what happens in the life of pocahontas and it is a great book to compare with the fictional Disney story. As the end of the book, Fritz provides a small epilogue where she describes what happens after Pocahonta's death and how Virginia and her Indian trive faired as time passed on, and we also learned how John Smith died and how "in the long run the Indians didn't sstand a chance." Curtis describes a fun loving family that even though they have difficulties and encounter problems along the way they take the humorous part of the situation and make the best of what they have. Their story is told from the perspective of a ten year old Kenny, who is the middle child, and through his perspective we see how a young bright, smart boy sees and hears the world around him. As the family travels to Alabama and soon after their arrival witnesses the destruction of a sunday school where the family's younger child Joetta was supposed to be in, but thanks to some miracle she was not inside the church when the bomb went off. according to Joetta she saw Kenny outside the church and followed him out of the church and through the streets till their house. No one can explain how she saw Kenny out by the church when he was no were near the church the day that the bombing occurred. What no one can explain to a ten year old is also why some people are willing to kill children in order to prevent them from going to school. As Kenny tries to deal with what he witness in Birmingham, he gets a little help from the old brother Byron who tries to tell him that he should not focus on the bad stuff but that he should put his attention to the wonderful miracles that occur. We may not personally be able to change the opinions and beliefs of other people, but we can make changes in our future so that this tragedy should never happen again.(less)

Lai's writing made it simple and the poetic style that the whole book is written makes it that more unique. I think it works greatly because the story is told from the perspective of a child, and even though her thoughts and words are simple the whole story is about her life and her experiences and using those few words, she is able to make her story stand out. What makes this book even more memorable to me is that it is based on the authors actual life as a child. Some of the events related in the book really did happen to Lai.(less)

I liked how the characters of the three children reflected their actions. Violet was the clear mathematical scientific thinker, that was why she was the inventor, Klaus on the other hand was a very proficiant reader and the impresive thing about it is that once he read a book he was able to retain that information and come to it as refrence in later times, and the baby sunny is just a boundle of fun with teeth that like to get everywere. Even though the story talks about the unfortunate stuff that they had to go through and see, it was still hope and happiness at the end. Making it clear that amid all the sadness and the violence around them good always prevails and that happiness and hope will always be there waiting for you to grab it. (less)

As the mother leads the parade of small duckling, who by the way have very funny and cretive names, through the city, the people of the city are surpriced and some are glad to see them waddeling through the streets to reach their destination. As they need to cross a street a police man actually stops the trafic and lets the ducks waddle through and reach the other side of the street untill they reach the park and are once again reunited with the father. Robert McCloskey created a whole city when making the book, even though it is basted on the real city he incoroporated so many details into the immages that make it truly memorable. I especially liked the images as being really big, some filled the two pages and others left spaced specifically for the text that acompany the images. I believe that because it has such simple jet very detail and large images and the text is not that long it works as a great read out loud. Over all this was avery good book and i enjoyed reading it.(less)

The children through time grow to be great friends and enjoy their time at the play area wich they called it Terabithia, and they proclaim themselves queen and king. Months pass and rain starts to coat the landscape day after day. Jess knows that he is afraid of the water because he can't swimm, but is not about to tell leslie that so he still goes and acompanies leslie to terabithia. One day when the rain was still flooding the river Jess has the oportunity to go to the museum with a teacher and while he is away leslie tries to go to terabithia, but the rope breaks and she drowns. When jess gets home he can not believe what has happened and is very sad and angry with leslie for a little while untill finally he slowly starts to regain some little piece when he leaves a tribute to leslie at terabethia and finds a little reachurance in his younger sisster who he later makes a bridge to terabethiaand and invites his sisster into his world. The author Katherine Paterson did an amazing job with this book and is no wonder that this book won the newbery medal. It is a sensational story of friendship and love and unfortunately death, but it was good to know that Jess was able to move through with his feelings and with the help of his family he was able to come at peace with the passing of his best friend Leslie.(less)

It is defenetly not the traditional disney story, but instead brings forth the ideas of all the early folktales that the German culture had shared for many years. In this story little red is taking the provicions that her mother asked her to take to grandmothers, but on the way the wolf distracted her and made her take time aside and pick flowers, while he went to the house and ate the grandmother. Little red cap than later arrives to find the wolf in her grandmothers bed and is eaten at well. A huntman later enters the cabin and cuts open the wolfs stomach and rescues the grandmother and little red and later killing the wolf. The brother's grimm are a pair of brothers who collected all the stories that they had heard in Germany and wrote them down so that they would not be lost like so many other oral hitory that had not had the oportunity to be recorded on paper. The Brother's kept their stories as orinigally as they could, and i think that is a great value that everyone should apreciate. Learning what the real sotry was instead of just seeing and believing the disney version. (less)

The book is about a chicken and two children Earl and Pearl, who are growing a pumpkin patch and even though the chicken just scratches the dirt and follows the kids around, the children are allways shooing the poor chicken, but still she is with them the whole time. One day when the children have their pumpkins they notice that grasshopers are invading the pumpmkin patch, and the chicken comes to the rescue by yelling "cluck" making the grass hopers jump away from the pumpkins. The chicken gets three pumpkins for her bravery at the end of the book. Judyann Grant and Sue Truesdell did a great job in combining the illustrations and text together. The child could see the picture and than read the small text that had a few words per page. The repetition of the letters and the sounds are in this book help the young reader with recognizing the letters and sound they make. (less)

It is from a perspective of a young girl and how she see's her family's predicament and how she feels helpless in helping her family. Fortunately for this family the battle was won at the end, but unlike this family we know that in today's time not all the families that are in the same predicament have a happy ending like Nadira and Aisha had in this novel. Marina Budhos creates this wonderful story about two girls who came into the country with their parents from Bangladesh 8 years ago with a visa, but as the years pass and with fraud lawyers their immigration status changed. In the novel we are showned that the girl's status not only changed from legal to illigal, but their whole lives changed from certain to uncertain. There academic work was suffering, their physical health was declining and their interest in there lives overall just seemed to deflate with the fear and the helplessness that they felt. I especially loved thid novel because it is very relevant to today's immigration system and it shows that justice and persistance and the will to fight prevails in a world where fairness, equality, respect and love seem to vanish.(less)

He was separated from Abilene his first child, and he got to travel for years through different ways. He met up with a fisherman and his wife, than a hobo and his dog, next with an old lady who had him as a scare crow, than he met two young siblings, one of the children unfortunately died because she was sick, and through out Edward's journey he got to experience what true love is. Ibatoulline was the illustrator for this book, and it was a very great visualizations of Edwards travels. The different images varied; the chapter images were all in black and white, while the bigger pages, that took the entire page were in color and they described the few important instances in Edward's travels, very well done. I personally liked how the images where spaced pout through the text to that we could see Edwards as he moved from one chapter to another. I personally liked this book and was very touched by Edwards travels (less)

Their present and past are who they are and they are just sharing their ideas in this booklet. Carlson wroked with Hijuelos on this collection and they each introduce themselves at the begining of the book. There is a table of contents that can let you search for the poem that you are trying to find. What is really cool and unique is that many of the peoms are both in English and translated in Spanish, or vise versa. Some of the contect is not apropraite for young grades, but i think it might be good for older grades to look over and see that they can write different poems in different languages, or a combination of the two. Great for bilingual students who do know how to read in both languages. (less)

The illustrations made by Russell in this comic book style are very detail and distinguished. The lines and the color usage are all to distinguish the characters as well as the setings in the pages. Using the comic book style of having different images of different scenes in one page are useful to Russell, because he is able to draw more and tell the story in few pages. The fary tales in the book are not of happy endings, instead they are morbid and sad. I would not recomend the book to very young readers, but instead to the older grades, as a refrence to finding stories and fary tales that do not end up with a happy ending.(less)

The writer Doren Cronin makes a very fun and interesting story line that the illustrator; Betsy Lewin follows with every illustration. The heavy outline on the character and the simplesity of the characters makes this book memorable and fun to view. The illustrations of the notes that the cows and the farmer exchange can be viewed and are readeble to the reader. The illustrations are fun ans keeps a smile on your face. Overall the book is very funny and is a ver enjoyable book to read. The illustrations fill the pages and draw the viewers eyes.(less)

The two main characters in this book are Petra and Calder, who are both in the same grade middle school classroom. As we get introduced to each child we learn more about them as they go on their every day lives. As the mistery unfolds around the Vermeer painting, and how each child is affected differently by the circumstances and coincidences they step closer and closer together in order to solve the mistery of the location of the painting. As they collect clues all around them, their friendship begins to grow and they get to find out how the other person is really smart and brave and can become realy good friends. they prove that their friendship is great at the end of the book, after each child basically saves the other's life. The illustrator; Brett Helquist did an amazing job in the book, it follow and it captured the visualizations that the author (Balliett) accomplished in writting. It was a great visual of what the child was or had read the page before. I did notice that in almost every single illustration i observed a little frog that was either on the corners or blend in the illustration. After the few times that i spoted the frog i kept looking for it in each of the illustrations. I knew that those frogs where a clue that the illustrator had put in, in order to givce the reader another clue. As the clue was given and the reader knew it, all the reader wanted to do was protect and follow the two main characters; Petra and Calder. Hoping that as you read it, they would find more helpful clues that could help them. I liked the book in general because it was a mistery and very intertaining. It incorporates illustrations through out the book to give the students a more visual aid so they can follow the writer. (less)

Mem Fox makes each sentence memorable and easy to read, the rythm in the text is constant and fun to read. As the text is either on the bottm or the top of the page it gives room for the illustration to fill the entire page. The illustrator; Helen Oxenbury makes a great jog in thid book. The big illustrations are great for the small children who see the big colorful pages and identify the characters and objects in them. As the pages are fill with the drawings of babies showing their ten little fingers and toes, makes the children take a good look at what the babies are counting. It might make them see and count their own fingers and toes as the book does. It makes the parents count their children's digets if the children do not. I personately love this book and makes me want to add it in the future books i would want to read to my future child. (less)

The pigeon gives you many escuses so he can drive the bus, from making up games, to offering you money to promising to be your best friend and more. The pigeon want's to drive the bus at all costs, but you as the readers are not going to let him. The ilustrations are simple and big enough that some of them fill the page. The simple illustrations portray a very determined pigeon, and his different strategies, like becoming sad, and friendly or even angry, as the reader it is very easy to see the different emotions that the pigeon goes through as you turn the pages. Over all i like the book as the read out loud book, because it engages the readers and it puts emotions to the words that you read.(less)

The book is about a dinosaur who does not want to go to the potty, instead he does many other activities involving the water, like making a lemonade, playing with the sprinkler, in the pool and drinking lots of juice. Near the end the dinosaur is doing the potty dance, because he needs to use the potty and has to run to make it on time. Bob Shea was also the illustrator and the big heavy outline of the character (the dinosaur) and the activities he is doing fill the page compleately. These are fun illustrations that are very colorful and draw the eye to the character in the book. The font in the pages are in different sizes and differ in color as well, this helps once again to draw the eye to the letters themselves. The book was entertaining over all and should be used to children who are learning to use the potty since it is very apropriate for their age and will have a good time reading it. (less)

In the book, Olivia describes what she does on rainy days, or sunny ones, how she dresses up or how she plays, she also lets us know that she feels that she does not need to take a nap nor go to sleep without reading a couple of books. The illustrations and the writing are always together and this style works for this book, because we are seeing and reading what Olivia is doing in the pages. The images are also for the most part black and white, except when she is putting on the clothing and when she has an object with her, but its always red, so the book contains only three colors; red, black and white. The usage of these colors make the objects that olivia is wearing or playing with jump up from the page, and i can see this type of pattern work for this book. (less)

We start out by descriving them what size they are in and what they do, where they are and where we can find them. As the story goes we see that there are many types of dots around us, and we know what they are representing, if they are happy or sad or hard or soft, you can find all types of information about dots in this book. The Author Patricia Intriago really makes the dot the center of attention when it is presented so boldy through the pages of this book. It is so funny to see that the different dots are showned clearly and that there is distinctions amoung them and it is not just one simple dot. I really thought this book was worth the caldecott medal because of its colorful ilustrations and for descriving something so simple and make it exciting and fun for the children in general. That is why this book is my pick of this year's winner of the Caldecott medal of the year.(less)

She interrupts time and time again until her father asks her to read him a story, but before she even introduces her story line her papa is fast asleep. The illustrations that Stein makes in this book are so fun and they can be interpreted as small children drawing the story line themselves. The lines are blurred on some scenes and i personally felt that i had to keep the book farther from my face so that the blurriness of the outlines of the characters could be better viewed. I Personally believe that the Interrupting Chicken is a good competitor to the actual winner of the Caldecott metal. The illustrations are fun to follow and are perfect for very young readers. The imotions and the facial expreccions are so good that you just dive into the story line. Loved the humoristic side that is in every page through out the book. (less)

WE start off with the mother Marmoset and end with the howler monkey. There are different animals for every number, for example the ant is number "4" and the Ocelots are number "8". The illustrator Jeanette canyon did an amazing job with the individual animals and the pages that they were on. She uses Polymer clay to create these colorful magnificent pictures of the animals and their environment. Her technique is very precise and visually amazing. I personaly loved this book, the rhyme is perfect for little children that keep their attention. This counting book has a lot of information at the back, because it has lots of activities that the teacher can do with the students. If its just looking for animals in the jungle to sining the tune with all the classroom, it also offers a lot of helpful information on the animals this book contains. The illustrations are full of life and are really detail over all. (less)

When the baby throws his teddy bear on the floor the big brother gives it back, when the baby does it again, the brother takes him out of the crib and sets him on the floor next to building blocks, and when the baby knocks over the blocks the older brother gets a little upset, but baby makes him feel better afterwords with a few words: "oh oh and ok ok" The Illustrations by John Steptoe are so beautiful, one can see the individual drawing marks on each page. They are so detail and the expressions in the characters are so good that you get into the story line visually right away. very beautiful illustrations over all. This is a very good book, that can be a very fun read to small children who have a small baby brothers. The illustrator draws the characters in so much detail that they make them come to life. This book is indeed very good to have at hand when older brothers have trouble with their younger brothers.(less)

At the end "Boris" the sleeping kitty wakes up and does what his mother and siblings did while he was asleep and finally goes back to join his mother and siblings, who are sleeping, so he sleeps some more. Fleming does a good job in drawing and identifying the three cats as the book goes along. The big bold lines and colors making the characters draw the eyes to the characters and identify them, like Boris with his bold orange colors. I did had to hold up the book away from me so that i could see the lines that are so bold when the book is too close to me. This book is great for a bed time story or in order to make the children realize what the kittens needed to do in order to mimic mama cat. Lovely book that is as sweet as it is cute.(less)

They are also identifying the colors each one is dressed in and representing: yellow, red, and blue. Then they each try blending the colors together to get different colors like green or purple or orange etc, they all dance and mix the colors as they present all the colors they can form. At the end a boy comes into the book with a gray, and black fabrics to see what happens to the colors. And they end their dance afterwords. Ann Jonas demonstrates what colors can be made with the girls dancing while using just a few words on the pages. I like this book because it can be incorporated into a lesson plan where the children can mix colors as the book does. the book mentions shades of colors and what they are each named, which is really good since there are some names that the children may have heard of. Over all i really liked this book.(less)
