Mara is a bitter, cynical single mom who is looking to make a way for herself and her daughter, Ashton. Trying her best to make ends meet, Mara meets up with Carter, the town deputy, to show him some homes. Carter is looking for a place for him and his teenage daughter, Chloe. Like Mara, Carter is a single parent. However, he is generally an upbeat, positive person. At first, I really didn't like Mara, maybe because in some ways she reminds me of myself. It takes a lot of prayer, encouragement, and pure grit to get through to Mara that she is worth a life and the love of Christ.
While reading this book, I had many different emotions. One minute I find myself laughing at the antics of Chloe (especially since I've already raised two teenage girls and have another one plus a boy to go!), and the next weeping with Mara as she watches her baby girl fight leukemia. This was a definite page turner and I had a very hard time putting this book down once I got started on it.
A few notes: Even though this is the sixth book in the series, it is a stand alone book. I have read the first book in this series but somehow missed the other ones in between! I'll be fixing that soon! Also, I do have some differences in beliefs religiously than the author but overall, this is a good book. I would recommend it to anyone looking for something inspirational to read!

I am a first time Dina Sleiman reader and I look forward to adding more to my collection!! I have to admit, unlike other reviews, I had a hard time getting into this story. Once I was able to connect with it more, it took off for me and I finished it rather quickly! This novel is geared more towards YA but as an adult in my thirties, I loved the story of Merry and Timothy!
I'm not a huge Robin Hood fan (which may be why it took me awhile to get into the book) but I loved the twist that Ms. Sleiman took on Merry's character. Merry is the true definition of Dauntless in this story as she is leading orphaned children on a quest to protect themselves from the evil deeds of the King. I find Merry's story very intriguing as she left (not by choice) a life of luxury and became an outlaw, or as the townsfolk would have it, a Ghost thief.
I was also intrigued by Timothy and found him quite humourous. The lengths he went to with Lady Merry had me in stitches at times! He's a true man's man and hero! I look forward to hearing more of him in future books in this series.
The person who I'm most in love with is Alan. This poor guy needs his own book and I hope the author has plans to include him in a story of his own. He reminds me of that bumbling teenager who just can't catch a break but when he's "caught" by a woman, will be the most loyal, faithful, loving person for her.
This was a fun read and one I would recommend to YA and adults alike! If you like medieval tales of intrigue and romance, this would probably suit you well!

Walters is a book for all parents with youngsters!! In this book, a young man is visiting his grandmother. He seems to have some issues in terms of behaviors that his grandmother finds inappropriate. She sends him out of the house to explore nature and he learns some very important values.
My daughter read this book to me recently. Several of the issues that were addressed in the book are some values that she is having to work on. I think for her, reading this book opened her eyes to some things she may not have realized. At eight years old, I feel she now has a little better understanding of how important it is to listen, show respect, and be a good all-around person.
This book was fairly easy for her to read also. She is a struggling reader so some of the words were challenging for her but not overwhelming. I appreciate books like Ms. Walters has written!

We first meet Miriam, a very intriguing character, who hides behind the inner walls of her warehouse. She only comes out at night, in the fog. Everyone points and stares when they see her. She is also an accomplished painter and spends her time (when not wandering in the fog) painting faces. Her paintings are as mysterious as she is. She also never seems to finish a painting.
John is set to take his holy vows in the next few weeks. There is something about "Mary" (his name for Miriam until he learns otherwise) that draws him to look for her. What is it that she is lacking in her life that he may be able to help fulfill? She never comes to church but seems to be always looking for something.
Ione is a bright, young girl who is working hard to provide for her family. She would do anything for them! She makes some choices that lead her to being in need of Miriam and John's help. Will she ever be able to forgive herself and make things right again?
Michael, Miriam's solicitor, also finds that he has a need for John, Ione, and Miriam as well. They will all work together to solve a series of crimes in the town that are occurring that the police want to overlook. What will the paintings reveal in the end?
I do want to caution parents that this book would be more suitable for very mature readers. There are some very dark scenes/story lines that some might find offensive. The writer has created a very realistic story that could take place in any location, not just Chicago in 1891!

I love the facts in this book (then again, I'm a fact junkie!) and Mr. Lee reveals 12 shocking facts about your back. Each chapter has different focus, starting out with why your back is "mad". My absolute favorite part of the book is the pictures showing various exercises that will help with a #madback.

Pretty Girl gets an overall 4.3 stars from me!! It has been awhile since I've read a YA book so it was refreshing to be asked to review this one!
For starters, I was confused by the cover of this book until it was almost over and then it made perfect sense! I don't normally comment on a book cover but this one had me intrigued.
Honestly, I thought this book started out really slow. I almost gave up on it!! Something told me to just push through it though and see what I could get out of it. I'm so glad that I did. I did feel like the characters were not developed until over halfway through the book. I just couldn't get a sense for where the story was going either! I sensed an "elephant in the room" for awhile but it didn't become clear until, as previously mentioned, about halfway through the book. I saw a lot of typos (but I'm forgiving of that since I did not have a final copy). Also, please keep in mind, I'm an adult reading YA. Someone in this age group may find this a more suitable book for them. I do, however, still love reading YA!
Once I "got into" this book, I felt the story really taking hold and developing almost instantly. Izzy's character was the most intriguing to me with Mason being a very close second. I found the twist of events to be interesting (I sensed something being off what a certain someone but I won't mention names to spoil it!) Overall, I was pleased with how the book ended.
For my regular readers, I do want you to know that there is very strong language in this book. It also focuses on some very intense "adult" scenes so as a parent, I would recommend reading first before your young adult reads it. They have a few questions that you would want to be prepared to answer.
Many thanks to Amy Heugh for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Alyssa is dared by her best friend Libby to enter a contest for an exclusive couples getaway on Mackinac Island. The only problem is, Alyssa is very single. When Alyssa finds out she has won the contest, she invites Libby to go along. They arrive in grand style with two very attractive men as their escorts once they arrive. Ben and Scott make sure the girls are safely delivered to the hotel, but not before taking great notice of them.
Alyssa's grandmother also lives on the island and has a 'project' for her to work on while she is there. Can she carry out the tasks that her grandmother asks of her and learn something from it in the process?
This book isn't really full of any surprises, plot twists, or anything overly dramatic. However, it is quite the enjoyable read. There isn't a lot to do with the quilt in the story but maybe that's what makes this book more enjoyable...you want to know and your mind wanders to more of the details.
I enjoyed this book and anyone looking for a lighthearted read would more than likely also enjoy it.

From the first page to the last, Creston Mapes keeps you on the edge of your seat in his newest release, Sky Zone: A Novel!!
Jack and Pamela Crittendon are back again and have hit some major breaking points in their lives. Jack is no longer working for the paper since he exposed the plant in town causing a lot of problems (read Poison Town if you haven't yet!!). Instead he is working part-time for EventPros as an usher. Pamela has had to find work to supplement what Jack wasn't bringing in while being very pregnant with their third child.
The big event coming up is a speech by upcoming Presidential candidate Martin Sterling. Senator Sterling is a controversial candidate as his platform is dealing with terrorism. He will go to any length to get rid of it entirely. While he has a hearty group of supporters, as with any candidate, he also has his enemies. He pairs up with singer Everett Lester for this event. A few hours before the event, a threat is issued that there will be a possible terrorist attack. Jack is working alongside his "Doomsday Prepper" friend Brian Shakespeare.
When Jack gets a surprise text message from Pamela, the night becomes more intense and things begin to get out of hand. Can they save those attending the event? Will they survive the Sky Zone?
As I read this book, I found myself reflecting back to a time when I was asked to accompany an usher during a concert. It was the year of American Idol with Kellie Pickler and Bucky Covington and they came to tour in Atlanta. About 5 songs into the concert, an usher got my husband and I's attention and asked us to come with him. Not really sure what to do, we followed the guy. At first, it seemed like we may be getting an upgrade and going backstage to meet the stars. I was so excited!! Before we knew it though, we were in an elevator with men in black suits and dark sunglasses (Men in Black moment!)The elevator opened to the parking lot and it was then that I realized why we were escorted out. My van was parked in the parking lot and had caught fire!! We didn't see the rest of the concert but we were given complimentary tickets to return for their encore show. It was a very scary night of my life. It's not quite the same the as what the participants went through in this book but I do have a concern of something like that happening to me again at a concert. These event goers had no idea what would happen to them and it was a night they will never forget, much like mine was. Have you ever been evacuated from a large venue? If not evacuated, were you told you couldn't leave? What are your thoughts on that?

In A Heart to Heal, we meet guidance counselor Heather, who is working hard to make high school easier for Simon. She hopes to accomplish something by gaining the assistance and mentorship of Max Jones, who is with Adventure Access. Max, however, has a pretty wild streak even considering his mobility limitations. Can he be trusted? Will Simon's parents be ok with someone like Max teaching him the ropes of getting around in his chair and dealing with bullies like Jason Kikowitz?
First of all, I LOVE LOVE LOVE that Ms. Pleiter was not afraid to write about people with mobility issues!!!! That is not a common thread in reading these days!! I applaud her for taking the chance to write Max and Simon's stories. Her descriptions of having issues reaching certain places (like tables in restaurants) is a real issue and she wrote it well! She also conveyed the raw emotions and feelings that a caregiver faces when dealing with someone with mobility issues. For the past 33 years, I've watched my mom face these challenges with her wheelchair (she has Muscular Dystrophy). In a particular restaurant scene with Heather and Simon, I could empathize with Heather...the stares, the fear of what others think, etc. It made my heart really feel for her.
The second thing that I loved most about this book was the redemption found within, for all the characters. Even though this is a work of fiction, this is a book about healing. I do think that many could find hope and healing through this book.
Many thanks to Ms. Pleiter for bringing another great story to life as well as providing an autographed review copy of this book in exchange for my personal thoughts. ...more

Set in Oklahoma, siblings Lars and Katrine have finally settled down in a cabin. They are making friends and learning more of the language while retaining their native Dutch. One horrible night, their cabin is purposely caught on fire. Katrine is trapped inside and her saving grace is the town sheriff, Clint. Is it fate that he saved her? What of Lars?
Clint becomes entangled in the Black Four, the "gang" that burnt down Katrine and Lars's home. Can he bring them to justice before it's too late? Can he put out the fire in his heart that is burning for Katrine at the same time?
This is the third book in the Bridegroom Brothers series. I've not read the other stories of Clint's brothers, Elijah and Gideon, but after reading this, I will be looking for those titles to read! Allie Pleiter writes this in a way that you are on the edge of your seat and don't see some things coming. This is my first read by her and surely not my last!

Dr. Matt Newman is working his way through the world while falling in love with a legal assistant named Jennifer. He wants to marry her and start a life with her but she is wishing he didn't have such long, unpredictable hours. Dr. Newman decides to close up his practice and go into a more laid back physicians role to honor her.
He ends up kidnapped, in the back of a car, going who knows where one night after shift. Was this planned or a freak coincidence and the kidnappers got the wrong guy? Why him? What did he do? He narrowly escapes and wakes up in a hospital room attached all sorts of wires and machines to find out he is now being charged with murder.
In the meantime, everything he had planned is now on hold. His girlfriend won't return his calls, the police are after him for a murder he doesn't know anything about, and he gets a call that his new job is now on hold.
Sandra Murray is a redheaded lawyer who has just learned about Matt's case. She's leery of taking it because, after all, she isn't fond of doctors right now. Especially the one covering Matt's medical case. She decides that she will represent Matt anyway, after the way her responds with her line of questioning in the hospital room. Is she making a mistake?
Matt gets discharged from the hospital and that's where the real nightmares begin. Will he ever get his life back? Will he be cleared of the charges? What about those who kidnapped him?
This book will keep you on the edge of your seat!! I loved how the story never really lets up. I think my heartbeat finally went back to normal a couple hours after finishing this book!!
I will say that there is only one fault I find in the book. If you read this book (or any other book for that matter) and see that the "Sinner's Prayer" will save you, I strongly encourage you to search your Bibles more. Nowhere in the Bible is the "Sinner's Prayer" mentioned. What is mentioned, however, is that to be saved and covered in the blood of Jesus, one must first Hear the Word of God. Second, one must Believe in that Word of God. Next, one must make a public confession and repent of their sins. This is where most people stop. However, in Acts 2:38-39, it reads, "Then Peter said to them, 'Repent and let everyone of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.'" There was a line also mentioned something to the effect of "you don't have to go to church to be a Christian" (I paraphrased that). That is also not true according to the Bible. Hebrews 10:23-32 discusses the implications of forsaking the assembling of the saints. I would love to talk to you about this further should you have questions. Also, please understand that there are many other versus besides the ones I have listed above that will help to answer these questions.
I do wish you, my readers, well and I hope that you will diligently search for the truth yourselves and not rely on what any man has to say in Biblical matters. Our Bibles should serve as our roadmaps. ...more

This story features the lives of Brianna and Ian. Brianna is devastated after the loss of her mom and her brother, Caleb, being transferred into dangerous military combat. Her mom left a lodge that Brianna is about to lose to foreclosure. While out working on the lodge, Brianna slips and breaks her arm. Ian, the fabulous Eagle Point Emergency anesthesiologist, helps Brianna to the ER and gets her settled in and ready for surgery. Little does Brianna know, Ian is her "bodyguard" set up by Caleb before his departure. Not sure how she will complete all the necessary repairs to the lodge in time for the banks to extend her loan, Brianna soon finds herself surrounded by help from Eagle Point and the neighboring town, Refuge. Uncomfortable with accepting charity, Brianna strikes a deal with Ian to be his daughter Tia's babysitter. Did Brianna bite off more than she could chew?
I loved this story and how it developed. Eagle Point reminds me of my own hometown and how everyone bonds together during times of distress and tragedy. I also enjoy the medical theme throughout the book (it's the nurse in me!) and how Ms. Wyatt ties that into the military as well. I look forward to more great books in this series! ...more

This book is a part of the Eagle Point Emergency series. Mitch is getting married and having a masquerade ball themed wedding. Kate, a trauma nurse for EPE, gets a devastating text message in the middle of the reception. She's upset and needing someone to talk to. As soon as she thinks that, a masked crusader shows up, holds her, lets her talk and cry, then gives her a kiss and leaves. Brianna, Kate's best friend, shows up looking for her. Brianna tries to comfort her friend but really doesn't understand Kate's dilemma. Besides, Kate doesn't want to burden Brianna with her troubles. Who was the masked man who swept her off her feet? Will Kate ever see him again? Kate is so consumed with family issues and helping Bri to plan the rest of her wedding that she almost forgets about him until finding a note, simply signed "BB" one day. The gifts and notes keep coming but soon Kate realizes that she has found the love of her life. Can she break it gently to her masked man?

I loved this book! I envy the relationship that Cordelia has with her Grammy and the special bond that a quilt can hold. Grammy would say that it's a 'life covering' and full of prayers. This book focused on the power of prayer and how it can bring someone through some very dark moments.
Cordelia is a young girl, bullied by the neighbors, until her rescuer shows up. Bernard is the love of Cordelia's life from first glance. There is a lot of heartaches in both of their lives and Bernard decides one day to sign up for the War. His number is pulled and he finds himself in the thick of WWII, but not in a way that he would imagine. Will he make it back home to Cordelia?
There are so many things to talk about with this book but I don't want to give anything away. I love how the author focused this book on the "other" side of WWII...how our black soldiers were treated. This book had me in tears several times. I laughed. I cried some more. My favorite character would have to be Grammy. Her lessons and the relationships she had with others is something I needed from this book.

This book is full of mystery, adventure, gruesome spider like creatures, and an interesting tribe of people. Imagine being lost in a cave that is illuminated by some form of algae to find yourself being confronted by spiders larger then Humvees and tribal people out to kill everything they see moving. Not only that, you witness a very peculiar and grotesque ceremony that these tribal members carry out.

It's unique and exciting to have a variety of authors providing bits and pieces to Thomas Constant's story!
Haytham "Hawk" Wilson is a bitter man. He is the sole survivor of an attack that took place many years ago and his time on earth is ending. Thomas Constant pays him a visit and gives him the option of living seven more hours, going back in time and reliving seven hours, or accepting reality and dying now. Hawk jumps at the opportunity to go back to that fateful day and change the outcome. How can he convey what needs to be done without sounding like a crazy man? Is it really his place to change the outcome? He knows the boy has to die to save his team and he is ready for that challenge...until he arrives there and lets his emotions get involved. What would you do with 7 hours?
I love how Ronie Kendig stuck with her traditional writing form to include military "heroes" in this story. She has a vast knowledge of military lifestyles and does an excellent job to portray thoughts and feelings that Hawk is experiencing during his 7 hours.

Meredith (Meri) Hayes is a young woman who is in a Cinderella state. She is at the mercy of her Aunt (wicked step-mother) Noreen and Uncle Everett after the death of her parents many years ago. When money is tight for the family, the only logical thing to do is to marry Meri off while she has her land inheritance, youth, and beauty. The only problem is, Meri is not attracted to Roy at all and just doesn't see happiness with him. She's always been "in love" with Travis Archer since that fateful day ten years earlier when she had trespassed on her land and become injured. He was just the prince that would never come though. After overhearing some information, Meri finds herself reaching out to help the Archer boys. Once again, she trespasses on their land. That decision would forever change her life.

No one is allowed on their land without finding a bullet in them. However, when a young girl becomes trapped on their land, Travis cannot help but to take care of her and take her home. Uncle Everett then lays down an ultimatum, which leads to big decisions amongst the Archers. Who's gonna marry this girl and save her reputation? What about Roy?
I absolutely had a hard time putting this book down once I started!! I've felt that way about all of Karen Witemeyer's books! The adventures the characters face make me (at times) wish I could have lived back in the 1800's! I am enamored with the dresses the women of the time wore and the descriptions were spot on. The tender romance that had to blossom and grow was also one that most girls dream of happening. Who wouldn't want to be fought over?? :)

I have loveI have to admit, when Ronie Kendig announced she was going to do a book series on military war dogs, I was afraid that I wouldn't like it. I have loved everything Ronie has written to date so why would I feel this way about this series? Well, I'm not a gigantic fan of books written about animals. I enjoy pets (I have many of them!) but I'm scared to death of dogs bigger then me!! All that being said, at this point, I believe Ronie could write an instruction manual for just about anything and I would love it!
I started this book and had a difficult time putting it down!! I don't know why I ever doubted Ronie's talent in convincing me that this was going to be a great book!!! Heath "Ghost" Daniels is a former Green Beret who acquired his military war dog (MWD), Trinity. They are asked to work for A Breed Apart, which is a training program for MWDs and their handlers. In return, they speak to troops to inspire them on the field. When an opportunity arises to go on a mission field, Heath and Trinity are all in...until the others are invited too. No one seems to trust Ghost since his accident that left him with a medical discharge and the looming diagnosis of traumatic brain injury.
Darci is an operative who is doing her best to undo a Chinese military operation. She has done many missions before and is ready for this one. However, a certain dog handler and his dog caught her eye early on during a show. The General was not happy to see her distracted so he sent her away. Only when she comes up missing do things really start to go into action.
Trinity is a beautiful dog. I'd still be scared of her but would admire her from a distance. Her job is extremely important and she misses the action that she and Ghost once enjoyed. When given the chance to get back into the field, Trinity is all in!
Trinity will capture your heart right away and will not let go until the last person is saved. I didn't realize just how important these dogs were to the military (sorry, I have a very limited scope of what our military does!). I did't realize that MWDs earned ranks along with their trainers. Trinity has a higher rank than her faithful friend Ghost. I have a much greater appreciation now of the military and the training that takes place because of what Ronie has written into her books. She is a "military brat" who extensively researches her subjects before writing on them.
My favorite aspect of this book was that Ronie incorporated another "Discarded Hero" into writing. She always maintains that these men and women in uniform are heroes. That means mountains to me!! While this is a work of fiction, Ronie has you believing that this is a real to life story. The end of the book does provide a story of someone who this is loosely based on.
Thank you, Ronie for yet another great book and for helping me to appreciate MWDs and other beautiful creatures even more!
Many thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this book to review. ...more

Bethany Quinn is a very well established architect who has everything going for her. She loves her life in Chicago and is ready to settle down with Dominic. However, she receives a life altering phone call from her mother who she hasn't seen in years. The trip back home is eventful from the beginning. Bethany is left with a lot of decisions to make about life, love, and property. Can she overcome the demons of her past and create a better life for herself and others along the way?
I really liked this book from the beginning. The story line is very clear with characters who could be your next door neighbors (or even your own family members). Bethany reminded me a lot of myself in many ways and I really connected with her quickly. However, I think my favorite character in this book is Evan. He has so much to offer and so few people see his real worth. Maybe it's just because I like the rancher/farmer type! :)
This is a book anyone who enjoys Christian fiction is sure to enjoy! I was excited to see that Robin's (Bethany's best friend) story (Wishing on Willows) will continue in the next book. She sure has a story that I want to know more about.
Fair warning to tender hearted readers like myself...you will need a box (or two!) of tissue handy. I bawled several times reading this book! I wonder how authors can write scenes and not tear up too (or maybe they do!?!?).
