I really enjoyed this read. The only negative is that I felt like the ending wrapped up just a little too neatly. But, endings are really tough to write, and I'm not sure how it could have been written any better. Overall, this was a better read than I expected.(less)

This is a cute book with a good message. I'm not generally a huge fan of books that have such an obvious message, it was a good read.(less)

During the first half I was slightly frustrated because there were so many questions and problems, but I didn't seem to be getting any answers. That was soon remedied. The idea of having gifts is very interesting, but the plot still left a lot unclear. I think this would be a good read for middle grade students. I am still unsure whether or not I will read any further books in the series.(less)

Not a read and apply type of teacher book, but it definitely addresses theoretical foundations behind grammar instruction. It does include some application with sample lessons in the appendix, although if application is really all you want, I would look elsewhere (Jeff Anderson or Janet Angelilo). Still, it was a good read if you want more detailed information on research and theory. The chapter that compares behaviorism with constructivism along with Hunter's lesson design vs. mini-lessons (a la Calkins and Atwell) was fascinating.(less)

Would be good in the classroom for introducing or reviewing punctuation and reading it with expression. Also good for encouraging students to be themselves and find their own strengths.(less)
