Solu is a sugar substitute that promises not only to make your foods and drinks taste delicious with lower calories, but to also to drop five percent of a person’s body weight in just days. In order to celebrate the release of this miracle substance, Solu is hosting an all-expense paid luxury cruise exclusively for the rich and famous.
Laurel is neither rich nor famous. Her friend Viv paid for her ticket to this once-in-a-lifetime event. Before she even boards she begins to regret it. Laurel knows she it wouldn’t hurt her to lose a little weight, but unlike Viv, she is perfectly happy with the way she looks. She doesn’t fit in with this elite crowd and feels uncomfortable immediately. It doesn’t help that she gets seasick as soon she the ship sets sail and she vomits all over the hottest guy on the boat.
Tom Forelli, “Baby Tom-Tom” to just about everybody, can’t shake the role that made him famous. The cute child star from a long-running reality show. One where most of America watched him grow up a chubby little boy. Tom isn’t like that anymore. He has worked hard to lose weight and get in shape the right way - through diet and exercise, so while he knows he should be grateful for the opportunity to be involved with the Solu campaign, he isn’t quite sure about trying it.
When Solu is finally introduced to the passengers, people can’t say enough about it. In fact, it is all they can talk about. They want more more more and people start losing shocking amounts of weight. Only Laurel, Tom, and a handful of crew are immune to these strange side effects. For them, survival becomes the most important thing, but will they be able to escape the crazy mob of Solu addicted passengers? More importantly, will they be able to warn the world of Solu’s side effects and stop the public-wide release? ...more

I would have liked to actually experience the ending through Brian's eyes though.
This is definitely one you don't want to miss. The audio is great, too.
I’LL GIVE YOU THE SUN by Jandy Nelson. Let me just start by saying that I listened to the majority of this book on audio and was in tears for most of that time. Be prepared with a box full of tissues when you start this book. It packs a punch right away. It grips you heart and doesn’t let go until you reach the final page.
Jude and Noah are twins and as close as two people can be. They are each other’s support in all things - until they aren’t. Told in alternating voices, Jude telling narrating the present and Noah narrating the past, the reader gets to see all the working pieces of the tragic events that tear the brother and sister apart.
Jandy Nelson is a master of language. I’m not the only one who things that either. On Goodreads, there are 129 quotes listed that people have pulled from the book. Here is the link to go read some for yourself, but I’m going to pull a few of my favorite for you anyway. https://www.goodreads.com/work/quotes....
“I gave up practically the whole world for you,” I tell him, walking through the front door of my own love story. “The sun, stars, ocean, trees, everything, I gave it all up for you.”
“This is what I want: I want to grab my brother’s hand and run back through time, losing years like coats falling from our shoulders.” “And even as I'm kissing him and kissing him and kissing him, I wish I were kissing him, wanting more, more, more, more, like I can't get enough, never will be able to get enough.”
“In a flash, we're through the door, across the street and into the woods, running for no reason and laughing for no reason and totally out of breath and out of our minds when Brian catches me by my shirt, whips me around, and with one strong hand flat against my chest, he pushes me against a tree and kisses me so hard I go blind.”
“I understand the quicksand of shame.”
See? I can’t stop! Reading these quotes again put tear in my eyes. There is so much feeling in this book it really and truly hurts my heart. I’LL GIVE YOU THE SUN is about love, family, forgiveness, and courage. Absolutely amazing book.
