After Needy is dragged to a club to see a up and coming Indie band called Low Shoulder, her life begins to unravel.
Needy notices some changes after their night at the club. Jennifer’s behavior gets more wild and leads to the deterioration of her and Needy’s relationship and even more disturbing is the fact that boys start turning up dead and partially eaten. All of a sudden, the town of Devil’s Kettle is in the national spotlight.
Needy decides she needs to get to the bottom of what is going on in town. She knows there is a connection between the band Low Shoulder and their immediate rise to the top and Jennifer’s weird behavior – she just doesn’t know what it is.
The story is told as a flash back from Needy’s point of view while she is in solitary confinement at Leech Lake Women’s Correctional Hopital. We know Needy did something bad – we just don’t know what it was. JENNIFER’S BODY is filled with fun and gore which makes it a super fast read. Be on the lookout for the movie sometime this Fall....more

He spends countless hours conducting experiments on it in order to learn about the abilities and intelligence of the creature. It is nothing like he has ever seen before. If it is as intelligent as it appears to be, it would be devastating if it landed in the wrong hands – and one particular scientist has been snooping around causing Dr. Morrow to be extra cautious.
The unthinkable happens and the creature finds a way out of the lab. At the same time, the town is being bombarded by a torrential downpour leaving the inhabitants stranded and immobilized. During the rise of the flood waters, Sean, a young teen, happens to witness a man struggling to climb out of the roaring, fast-flowing river. He attempts to climb down the bank to help the man, but stops when he sees the man become violently ill. The man vomits blood until there doesn’t seem to be any left in his body. After the blood, a black oozing substance flows out of his mouth. The man jerks away and falls back into the water and Sean leaves the riverbank and searches for a way to get home. The smell coming from the black ooze was too much to take.
The black ooze is the creature Dr. Morrow found and it can travel from host to host by entering the mouths of its victims. BLOOD WATER follows the path of the creature as it flows from host to host. The creature infects the host as soon as it enters their body. It only takes a short time for the host to deteriorate enough to cause the creature to search out another body. Sean and his brother, James, try to find help in putting a stop to the killing spree of this terrible creature, losing many people along the way.
BLOOD WATER is being promoted as a horror novel, but falls short when it comes to creepy suspense. The only disturbing aspect of the book is when the author details what happens to the infected hosts before they finally die. BLOOD WATER is short and, I have to say, that is probably the only reason I finished it....more

He started by taking money from kids on the playground and quickly escalated to breaking into houses. Even though he’s a petty thief, he hasn’t participated in any violent behavior. Furnace Penitentiary is buried miles beneath the earth’s surface. There is only one way in and out and it doesn’t take long for Alex to realize just how dangerous Furnace is. The evil warden, the giant guards he calls the Black Suits, and the monstrous skinless dogs make life in the prison unbearable. The most frightening thing for Alex is when the creepy Weezers in gas masks stalk the cells to choose their next victims. Once the Weezers make their choices the Black Suits grab the inmates and drag them kicking and screaming from the cells. They are never heard from again.
Alex knows Furnace is evil and becomes desperate to find an escape. With the help of his cellmate and another friend, they set off to find a way out. Will they be able to fool construct a plan? Will they be able to keep a secret from the Black Suits and the other inmates? If they do get out will they be able to tell the world about the horrors of the prison and save the kids inside?
LOCKDOWN (ESCAPE FROM FURNACE #1) is creepy and gruesome. You will be desperate to read the sequels.

Ed makes a great reluctant hero. Readers will grow to love him even though his weaknesses at the beginning of the novel make him seem like he’ll be more of a hinderance than help.
Higson provides us with the tiniest bit of character cross-over, making it fun to see how some of the characters we met in THE ENEMY got their start.
If you enjoyed THE ENEMY, you’ll love THE DEAD as well....more

She is planning on taking twelve days to hike through the mountains so she can say goodbye. She doesn’t have the will to fight anymore and thinks spreading her parents ashes in one of their favorite places in the world is the best way to end her life and her fight with the tumor in her brain.
When an electromagnetic pulse sweeps though the sky while she is still camping, every electronic device is destroyed and billions of people are killed. Those that survive fall into two categories – the humans and the Changed.
Alex, saddled with a young girl whose grandfather died during the EMP, meets up with a young army veteran named Tom. Together, the three of them attempt to survive in this post-apocalyptic world and stay away from the deadly group of zombies willing to kill and eat anyone that gets in their path.
ASHES is a fantastic addition to the post-apocalyptic “genre.” It is a page-turner filled with suspense, horror, and romance. This is an absolutely fantastic story....more

The areas that are safe are surrounded by tall fences meant to keep out the Can Heads.
During a particularly bad night at a Can Head siting, Jack watches as his partner walks into a trap and gets eaten alive. Jack himself suffered terrible injuries forcing him to take time off the job and endure many painful weeks of exercise and physical therapy.
After being told by his superiors that he won’t be allowed back to work until he takes some vacation time, he reluctantly agrees to go away with his wife and kids to Paterville Family Camp – a fortress-like compound in the mountains, where families can relax and do things people used to do on vacations like hike, swim, and take boats out on the water.
Everything is great at Paterville. The kids get in the water everyday, his wife lays on the beach in the sun, and they even meet a nice couple they chit chat with at dinner every night. Another perk to being at Paterville is the food. There is plenty of it and it isn’t the synthetic food they are used to at home. At first Jack finds it hard to relax – always on alert for danger, but he eventually sees how much his family is enjoying their time at the Camp and decides to give relaxation a try.
The picture perfect vacation is ruined when Can Heads breach the Camp’s extensive security. With Jack’s help, the guards are able to fight off the attack and put things back in order. Life is back to normal the next morning with people having fun in the lake like always. Jack never lets his guard down again though and he starts to see strange things that alert his policeman senses to possible sinister goings on at the Camp.
Jack decides he and his family need to leave – no matter what!
VACATION is a fast-paced story that hooks the reader on page one and doesn’t let go until the end. I label it as a YA Crossover book because while there is quiet a bit of blood and gore and some language, it isn’t anything that older teens can’t handle. This is perfect for your older horror fans....more
Did you read Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children? Well, this is kind of like that, but with a creepy mental asylum turned college dorm insteadDid you read Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children? Well, this is kind of like that, but with a creepy mental asylum turned college dorm instead. There are authentic photos scattered throughout the book to go along with story. I read the ARC on Netgalley and all the pictures haven’t been embedded yet, but some were there. The problem with the ones I saw were that the didn’t really match the text exactly. For instance, the main character, Dan, was talking about seeing a surgical amphitheater and what he described wasn’t what was in the picture.
From the synopsis about you can see that Dan meets Abby and Jordan at this college prep program. Something that didn’t jive for me was how close the author made them seem right away. They were immediately considered best friends. Abby and Jordan met on a bus ride to the school and in later scenes you would think they knew each other forever.
Also, the synopsis mentions that there is no coincidence that the three of them ended up at the summer program. There is a connection with the asylum for two of them, but one - not that I can see. Maybe I missed it.
There were definitely some creepy moments in the book, but there weren’t enough to outweigh the things that irritated me about the book. I had to force myself not to skim several times.
What do you think? Anyone else already read this on Netgalley? ...more

I haven't read anything, but it feels like this is the end. So, maybe there are only two books to this story. This is action packed. The wilderness survival really plays a big part since they are on the road for most of the book. Also, talk about a unique solution to the vampire problem! Kudos to Lauren Bickle for this idea. Thinking outside the box. ...more
