I don't like kidnapping, forced sexual encounters, coercion, and drugging of the MC by the "hero," and I use that term loosely. Did he turn out to be a good guy? Yes. Had he gone through some shit that made him an ass at the beginning? Yes to that too. But once he came to his senses, that shit should have stopped. I was ill. I didn't find the sex sexy. She had no effing choice in the matter, ever! How is that sexy? The ONLY reason I finished is because I have been told by several friends that I will love this series. So often that I already own them all on audio. If the next book follows this trend I will be attempting to return what I can of this series. I didn't like the first book either. This is not looking good.
Side note, the narrator does a great job! You all were correct there!...more

However it had been a while since I read the previous book, and this one was a different POV from the other books, so it took a minute to reimmerse myself into the world again. But once I did I was a goner. Note - I would strongly encourage anyone considering this book to read the previous books in order first. It is not one that could be easily understood without that background knowledge.
This story - as the title says - is about Gabriel and his mate. Jonathan and River set the new standard for bonding with one's wolf and finding mates. And Gabriel is determined to follow in their footsteps. But his time is running out, and he makes a backup plan. Of course things don't always go the way they seem, or the way you think they should, or the way they plan for.
But you have to make things work to survive, especially in the world Abel creates for her shifters. They are like no other shifters I have ever read about anywhere, ever. The way she created them is unique to her world. And I kinda don't want to tell you so you have to go read it for yourself. She also brings politics into it - but again not like other shifter books. You just have to read to see.
I wasn't sure I was going to like Gabriel's book. I had fallen so in love with River and Jonathan, and Gabe was basically a kid at the beginning of their story, that I thought it would be weird to read about. I am glad I gave it a shot though, because I fell madly in love with Gabe and his mate (notice I don't use her name, I don't want to ruin anything for anyone!) and their struggles to not only be happy, but just to BE.
If you are looking for a unique shifter NA romance, pick up book one in this series, River's Recruit....more

I love that about 1001 Dark Nights! But I digress ...
Ike and Jess are on the run from some bad dudes, and hole up in Ike's cabin for however long it is going to take to make sure Jess is safe. They are friends, and have been fighting the mutual attraction for years, so hiding alone in a cabin is going to be hard ... get it? I crack myself up. :-)
This is a fun friends to lovers story, about 2 broken people holding on to guilt that neither of them should have to hold on to; for things neither of them should have had to experience. They can heal each other, if given the chance. And yes, they give in eventually. And the road to that eventually is not always easy, but this is a fun, hot, sweet, frustrating, fun, sexy, fun read. Did I say it was fun?
As expected, Kaye delivers a solid story, developed characters, sexual tension, and lots of excitement; even in this shorter format! If this doesn't convince me to FINALLY pick up the rest of Hard Ink already, I don't know what will! ...more

On one hand the story was captivating, and there were many times I found myself smiling while listening. On the other hand there were also many times I found myself rolling my eyes at the things the characters said/did/didn't say. I don't want to ruin anything by spoiling things, so I am going to try and be as vague as possible here ...
First - the story itself. Overall it was a good story, but I never found myself sucked in. There was talk about a past war, and a war brewing, and then all of a sudden (it seems) the war is here now. And these characters are pivotal to one side winning or losing. And there were secrets revealed and quests accomplished, yet at times it all seemed pointless. Like the story would have gotten the same message across if some of it had been cut out.
Next - the narration. I am super picky about men doing female voices. It is rare to find one that I enjoy. And this narrator is no exception. I think it is just difficult for a man to do a woman's voice without making her sound ... dumb? But fortunately most of this story is male POV, so it isn't often an issue. Though I do have 1 complaint - he often made the male lead sound like he was shouting. I am not sure if it was the voice, the accent, or what. But he did a great job making each and every voice distinct, which is always an amazing feat.
Finally - the characters. While not a romance story IMO, there is still almost a love triangle, which I think muddies up the story some. One man is more of a father type figure and the other is the obvious choice. No it isn't resolved in this story. And I didn't ever really connect with the characters as much as I like. But I did find myself wanting to continue the story, to find out what would happen with them, when they would meet up, and how things would be resolved or not.
Conclusion - While I enjoyed listening to the story, there were some issues that are pet peeves of mine. Of course that is going to affect the overall enjoyment of the story for me. However, I did like it enough to continue on to book 2 right away, and look forward to seeing where things go from here. ...more

So I had no idea what to expect when I picked up Sexy, except I knew the story would be solid. And let me tell you, I was a bit surprised. Sexy was not exactly what I was expecting. Is it sexy? Yes. But is it ALL about sex and being sexy? No.
Fletch is hot, and he knows it. Rather than coming across as a dick though, it is confident which in turn makes him even MORE sexy. What he has realized however, is that most women who are sexy don't actually know it or work it. So he has made it his mission to teach women to be sexy in their own right. They don't have to be model gorgeous, because 90% of sexy is all attitude. Which COME ONE, makes him even more sexy, am I right ladies?
Enter Tiffy, who is sexy and doesn't know it. She is also off limits for Fletch, but he doesn't know that right away. So of course we have the forbidden love angle, which is always fun. The emotionally closed off guy, with secrets; also fun. And a strong female lead, rare but AWESOME. She may be unsure of herself as a sex-figure,but she doesn't take anyone's shit when it comes to business. I kind of want to be her when I grow up.
I expected Sexy to be, well, SEXY. Which it was of course. What I didn't expect (and I have no idea why, based on Huss' previous works I should have) was the fully fleshed out characters and the enjoyable story that went with them. It wasn't all sunshine and roses, but no one pulled a gun on anyone else either. ...more

I love a good, traditional, paranormal romance story. Midnight Hunter did not disappoint. Add in the forbidden romance aspect of the teacher/student trope, and *fans self* oh my goodness.
Shane and Vera have both obviously had the hots for each other for some time, but he is her professor and she his student. On top of that he is a member of the Execution Underground and she is a witch - the kind of being he usually hunts down - and of course neither of them think anything could ever come of their mutual attraction. *giggles with glee*
With many authors trying to throw crazy twists and turns, it is refreshing to read something that you know going in is going to work out, but you have no idea how. I went in trusting Ballenger to lead me to a satisfactory ending, and she did more than that, I was grinning like an idiot by the time I finished. I am anxiously awaiting her next installment in the Execution Underground series! ...more

I met Mr. James at Coastal Magic back in February of this year, and that was the first time I had heard of his books. By the time I decided to purchase them, he had sold out of book 1, and only had book 2. So I got it, and picked up Charming on kindle, and then promptly forgot about them (along with half the books on my shelf that I still need to read). A friend of mine was reading the audios and liking them, so I remembered I had these and picked up Charming to see if I would like it.
OMG YOU GUYS. These books are fantastic. I was DYING. The chapter titles ... "Blood, Bath, and Beyond" ... I mean seriously. John Charming, the main character, has about the most dry sense of humor I've ever read. He is hilarious. I tore through this book like John tears through ...well that would be a spoiler so I won't tell you. But it is fast. I read all 3 stories, and all the short stories, in about 2 days. I couldn't get enough of John Charming and his antics.
Of course not everything is funny. People die. Sometimes it is for the greater good, and sometimes it is a tragedy. Not everything goes according to plan 100% of the time. But I cannot get past the funniness that is this series. I even pre-ordered the next book already.
And rest assured, if Mr. James will be at Coastal Magic again this Feb, I will be getting ALL the books, signed. I may have a new favorite UF series....more

I haven't read many Dragon based paranormal romances, but if this is what they are like then I am going to have to start digging in more! Grant does a great job making these mythical beasts seem real and approachable, while at the same time making them scary and intimidating.
Even though I am not a writer, I could almost instantly relate to Grace (minus the fear of storms, I LOVE them). She was quirky and independent, but trying to force things to happen when she should take a breath and RELAX. Enter Arian - while of course adding undue stress at the same time helps her to just let go and BE. I think we all could use a little bit of that in our lives.
Being a 1001 Dark nights novella, Dragon King has a fully fleshed out story in an existing world - the Dark Kings Series - but you don't need to be familiar with the series so far to dive right in. Of course we meet a few characters who I am sure we would know better had we read the series up until this point, but it certainly takes nothing away from the story. And you can believe that I will be playing catch up with this series with my next book budget!...more

I don't care that he is a fictional gay werewolf. He. Is. Mine. I love him so hard.
But he is not the only one we learn about. We get more from just about all the guys. I really enjoyed seeing how they became the pack, and how Harold joined their group. And the romance, just about broke my heart. I was sick for them (not gonna say who) because of how everything played out. But I certainly suggest reading this before reading Crimson Chaos, because DUDE. YOU GUYS. I can't tell you.
This is super vague, because I want to spoil NOTHING, but let me end with this: Amos Cassidy - if you two want to write more about Raven, doing anything (laundry, washing dishes, watching TV, etc.) count me IN. I will happily read anything you guys write about my man. ...more
