I don't usually read this genre but a friend of mine recommended it to me and I usually agree with her opinions. This book has won the national book award, newbery honor, and ALA honors and I can see why. This story is about clones, mexico, and drug lords but not really--it is mostly a coming-of-age story about a boy looking for friendship and acceptance in a world he doesn't understand. I enjoyed that it was such a unique concept and inspiring story of survival.(less)

In a way it was a little sad for me, but Alanna is still learning and growing. Her restlessness and inability to decide what she really wants became a little annoying. I'll still continue the series to see what happens. (less)

Hopefully several of the characters will be more developed and we will learn more about the magic. (less)

I really liked this one, maybe more than the first. Alanna is more grown up and struggling with the changes of womanhood while still pretending to be a boy. Her trials and growth are well written and it had a great exciting end. (less)

Alanna was a great female character and finally found herself in this book. I like that she could be strong and feminine at the same time. There were many great battle scenes and also tender moments. For me it was an overall success!(less)

The world of Sevenwaters is just that good, and the characters are wonderful. I felt so much a part of this story and just ached and cried with the main character when she couldn't. What a strong girl and great ending to a long prophecy. Changing your destiny and understanding your role in a world that seems to be already planned for you is a great theme for everyone to ponder. I'm excited to have learned that another book in this series is out soon!(less)

I wasn't sure at first if I would like the daughter as much as Sorscha, but I did. And wow, do I love this little spitfire. Her story is every bit as exciting as her mothers. I love how the family is still together and you have the same characters still around. I laughed and cried in this book and really grew to love so many of the new characters as well. On to book 3!(less)

I just have a hard time with so much swearing, especially in a book that is classified as YA and has received children's book awards. (less)

Meliara was such a funny little tomboy who I grew to love quite quickly. I also loved the mystery of the hill folk and the budding relationship in the second half between Meliara and Shevraeth. When the story ended and I was still wanting more, so I was pleased to find the section of inserts at the end written from Vidanric's point of view. I have even gone on further to read more about these characters in the other short stories and the prequel about the handsome Shevraeth.(less)

Because it took me so long to discover this book, I was already familiar with the story because this book is a mixture of the movies "Ella Enchanted" with Anne Hathaway and "Ever After" with Drew Barrymore. I think it more closely resembles the Ever After movie, which is one of my all time favorites, but as always the book is WAY better. I just couldn't put it down and had to keep reading to see what would happen next. Pretty silly thing to say when you already know the outcome, but that is how it is when you read a great book!(less)

I especially loved the Scottish history and the setting of this book. To truly find one who completes you, understands you, and help you be a better person is truly a quest that I think all humans desire!(less)

This was such an amazing journey back into a different time. I loved the perspective of the children as they spent their summers with Grandma Dowdel. I also loved the way the children grew and learned from this amazing woman. The story was short but packed with 7 summers of learning and adventure. Great read!(less)

I loved seeing Gen move and work in the first book and missed that in this story. After a while, I skimmed the battles and parts about who now captured which island to get to the good stuff about the people and their struggles with who to trust and who to love! This book was also much deeper on the relationship level and also darker. Over all, it was an enjoyable read and I'm excited to read the third book!(less)
