In our small town we do not get first run movies, so this movie hit our one screen theater in January 2012. My kids went to see it and came home fired up, just like after Fireproof (another movie by the same people). I had to see this. Somehow I ended up awake at 4 am and buying this book for my Kindle. It is now 8:30pm and I think that is the fastest I have ever finished a book. This book will make you laugh, cry, wonder, pray, worship, dance, and leave you feeling like one of your best days with God. I won’t tell you the plot, you can get that off the back of the book, and out of many reviews, and previews of the movie are available. You will be surprised at each new development and how they all intertwine, and show God’s divine wisdom that we only get to experience in hindsight. You will come out of the other side of this book wanting to be a better parent, a better Christian, and a better person. I cannot encourage you enough to buy or borrow this book.(less)

I may even delete it from my Kindle, which is usually reserved for those books I will never read again. I did enjoy a totally different take on the end of the world scenarios I have been reading. For the price I paid I am money ahead, even after springing for the sequel. I thought the main character was wishy washy. Couldn't make up his mind (you will see why). One secondary character should have been shot halfway through the book if you take the survivalist theory on TEOTWAWKI life which is any extra mouths are taking food out of our mouths. As pointed out in this book, the Christian view would be to turn the other cheek. So he lives. Those things aside it is a good read. I did buy the sequel. I did have trouble putting the book down.(less)

I do not wish to get into the controversy of "Left" versus "Right" or even wrong versus right. I will just tell you I enjoyed reading this book, it seems just as possible as "1984" or "The Hunger Games" if the circumstances are right. You will definitely be thinking about this one when you are done. (less)

So I read another book, then noticed I kept thinking about the characters and what was happening to them. I picked up where I left off two days prior (yes I can read a book in one day) and finished it that night, then went looking for #2! This book has an interesting premise, and as a mother I think it was hard to think of the kids being alone on the island. Although most end time/pandemic/dystopian novels are about kids being somewhere without adults, for some reason this one bothered me at first. Possibly because I came to care for the kids.
A great read, totally different from all the dystopian trilogies out there. A refreshing change. You will want to have #2 readyElevation(less)

This one uses atomic bombs instead of an EMP which is cool. Now you learn snout radiation and some worries that entails like what meat can you eat, safe drinking water, dig a trench, cover with soil, hope you can afford a bulldozer and backhoe at the time. Seriously the characters are good. The family a bit too MacGyver-like, but not in a horrible way. I enjoyed the story, but when it came time to write the review I realize I probably will quickly forget the book, characters, and plot so that really doesn't mean horrible, but it doesn't mean greatness either. You will be entertained, you will laugh, cry, think about your own reactions to situations, etc. That makes this a pretty good read. Which is what we all want in the end.(less)

I was downloading sample after sample to decide what next. This gave me great ideas on what I want to read, and what I will skip. I have already finished Divergent, and loved it. The sample is only 5 chapters, this book holds 9, which decided it for me. I am also pretty sure about the last three. This makes spending $9.99 much easier, and I have more confidence in my enjoyment of the book.(less)

It was part fairy tale, part suspense novel. I assume it is the first book in a series, and I would look for another book as I enjoyed this one. It kept me entertained and curious throughout the book. It seemed geared more towards young teens, and I would think totally appropriate for them. I would love it if my kids would read it, but they do not like to read. Definitely a keeper.(less)

Wow. This world Suzanne has created is scary, thought-provoking, and totally possible. The entire trilogy is well put together, terrifying in places, a story of survival, love, and family. What would you do if you had to face giving one of your children to the Hunger Games, knowing everyone who loves reality TV is eating up the very survival of your reason for living? How would you watch the times it is forced? How many of you think you would take Katniss' stance of never having children?
This is a must read. And the movie comes out March 23, you will be hearing about this for a while.(less)
