I can't really give a true review without spoilers, but all I can say definitively: Read the book. Read the entire series, if you haven't. Enjoy a love triangle where the two boys are not fighting over the same girl, but instead would do anything for the other to be happy, even if it means giving her up. Above all, enjoy the ending. It may be too "happily ever after" for some. Too easy of a way out, but I like my stories tied in a bow.
A head's up: I cried the entire last 50 pages. You have been warned.

Like, so many plot twists I can barely review the book without giving away a million spoilers. The one thing about this book compared to its predecessor — Eve KIND OF started to annoy me. Not like, legit annoying me, but there were multiple instances where I scrunched my face up at. I’m not very attached to the Eve and Caleb relationship, but their devotion to each other is heartfelt — and they really never give up. The last chapter of the book is probably the biggest shock of all. I didn’t know how I felt about it until hours later when I realized that Carey did something not many author would ever dare to do…and it makes me very eager for the next book.

It's written for a YA audience and isn’t one that I see crossing over to a general adult audience like many in the genre are these days. But the characters are great, the storyline is relatable from all angles, and I highly recommend it.

I started this book five hours ago and I'm now sitting down to review it, if that gives any indication into how addicting this book is. The book was always moving. There was always something happening. Even when there could have been stretches of time -- like traveling through the terrain -- where they could just well, tramps through the woods looking at how green the trees are. Nope, BAM, something happens. There were no "defining moments" which I actually LIKED. It was all slowly unraveled and each event was remembered, even when they moved onto the next.(less)

It was just so so so DIFFERENT. Like, mindblowingly different than any plot I've read in the past few years. It's the future, but not a dystopian. It's sci-fi, but (and probably the most terrifying part) it's totally possible. It was freaking FASCINATING.
If you've read my past reviews you'll know I'm a stickler for characters. I loved them all. The bad guys kicked bad guy ass, the girls are all bad ass and Tom, the main character, is a champ. Even Elliott who was a psuedo-bad guy was written so it wasn't this sappy OH WE'RE BFFS NOW. It was just really, really well written.

Because I knew once I read those 300-something pages, Clara’s story would be over. But I happened to be sick on Friday and without anything else to do, I curled up under the covers and pulled out my tablet.
Four hours later, I was sniffling into a tissue staring at the last page.
Somehow through all of this divine growing up Clara had to do, she was at the same time kept an eighteen year old with thoughts and problems any college freshman would have. Most of our heros and heroines of YA stories lose that innocence as the series progresses, but Hand kept that in balance. Before I cut to spoilers, for those who aren’t going to read them I just want to say I liked the ending. It’s impossible to truly end a story in a way everyone will be happy about it, but Hand gave Clara and the rest of the characters their curtain call and closed the red drapes on a great adventure.

Trolls? Dude, yes. Vampires and Werewolves are SO freaking last week. Not only trolls, but beautiful, telekenetic, shoe-hating trolls.

I get her mentality with guys, with her career, and with her family. That’s one of the main reasons contemp. fiction isn’t my favorite — it’s hard for me to relate to characters my age when they aren’t like me.
Kelsey’s meltdown was classic Britney Spears, and it was interesting to see it all from someone else’s eyes. To see how it affected someone else. Logan’s loyalty to her cousin is commendable — I don’t think I could have done what her character did. I don’t think most people could, which the authors made clear when Finn (love interest) confronted her with it. He didn’t get it, but she didn’t back down and was loyal until the end.

Once the characters left one location you knew they’d never be going back…at least not any time soon. The premise of the plague is this creepy This-Could-Really-Happen reality, and what they do to the girls — as barbaric it sounds — could be something humans turn to. I enjoyed all of the characters, and passed my 1st person POV test: Eve’s inner monologue did not annoy me. Her choices did annoy me, and I had to keep reminding myself that a person in her position would do some of the stupid/naive things she did.

I loved it, it just lacked a bit of the pacing the other books had. It wasn’t bad, it was just different compared to the first four. I loved the characters as usual and I truly to love the fact that the book is written in third person and we’re not stuck inside someone’s head. The entire plot was very…different. And while Clare’s series are very very fantasy/paranormal, she always makes sure that it makes sense in their world. She isn’t just going to say, “And a big polka dot bunny came to them….” We will know, at least eventually (so now I know to trust her), that there is a explanation (in the Shadowhunter world) explanation for why there is a polka dot bunny. So with the whole Jace/Sebastian tied together thing, she had a history of how it happened, it just didn’t “happen” for the sake of a plot and no one knows why.
This book was not Divergent, and not in a good way.

It’s awful to wait a year for a book and hold your hopes SO high. I was all involve in #TeamDauntless and the whole fandom hype too. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t a bad book, but I thought I’d be signing onto goodreads.com and giving it a big ol’ five star. I gave it three. I feel like an awful person. In all fairness, I am going to read it again when I have a chance, but in the greater scheme of things, it just wasn’t there for me. It was all the characters’ fault though. The writing was lovely and the plot for the most part was fantastic, but the characters literally drove me mad the entire book. And it’s a long book. Over 500 pages long (the ebook is only about 300 though due to formatting.) There were a couple OMG moments, which I love in books, but one of them just made me again — angry at the characters. And I’m not saying I need to love all of the characters, because obviously books need villains. It’s hard to explain and completely spoilerish, so the rest of the review is on my blog:
