Dasheen Bellamy is a 15 year old girl, whom everyone calls Angel. Angle has lost everything . Her parents have disappeared and all she has left is her 12 year old brother, Jordan. She will do whatever it takes like follow all the rules, go see Ms. Griffin three times a week to keep her and Jordan together. Angel and Jordan both are students and residents of Ame Academy.
Ms Griffin suggested that Angel write everything that has happened to her down in a journal but Angel was a blogger back at her old school. So she starts a blog where she post everything in her blog. She post about the night her parents disappears and her life at Ame Academy.
Angel met Principal Montague in the hall one day and he ask her how Jordan is doing in night school. Angel not knowing that the school had transferred him to night school wonders what is up. The reason she didn't know that he had been transferred is because the students that are in different grades are not allowed to talk to each other unless they are family and only then at the proper time designated by the school .
After her little conversation with the principal Angel decides to go visit Jordan. Although she will have to sneak out of her dorm to do this. When she arrives she goes to Jordan's window and sees a girl drinking blood from a guy's neck. Jordan sees her at the window and she tells him he's not going back in there. Jordan tells her everything is different in night school. You have to follow all the rules or you could get hurt.
Angel begins to see that things are different at the academy. That even some of the people are also different. They are all very good looking. So she decides that she is going to night school with her brother so that she can keep an eye on him and protect him. She gets herself transferred to night school.
Then one night when she is out walking alone she is attacked by a group of boys that she goes to school with. She finds out that night that the boys are vampires and they were sent by Alexa to attack her but not kill her. When Angel was small her dad had her take karate lessons. Well now she was very glad that she took the lessons. Angel kicked some butt that night.
All Angel wants is to get through school, reach her 18th birthday so that she can take Jordan away and take care of him herself. She is a very strong person that know how to kick butt. Angel will do whatever it takes fight whom ever she needs to, to save Jordan from the vampires. (less)

But sometimes times you had to break some rules and do bad things or things that others may have thought was wrong in order to keep people safe and alive. Thomas didn't like doing the things that he had to do or hurting anyone but he did the best that he could or the best he knew how. He was always looking out for the less fortunate and taking up for the ones that could take care of themselves or needed a little help along the way.
Charlie was a girl pretending to be a boy. She had to pretend to be a boy or she would get sent back outside the walls of the community with the monsters and be eaten alive. Charlie kept her identity a secret in order to survive. She thought no one knew her secret but Thomas knew her secret and had known since the day Zeke brought her inside the walls of the community along with her baby sister Star. Thomas cared for Charlie as a man cared for a woman and was determined to do whatever was necessary to keep her safe and alive.
Charlie tried so hard to keep her emotions in check and not let anyone see or know that she was afraid. She had to always stay on guard with her feelings and the way she acted to keep anyone especially Jonas Bannon their leader from finding out that she was a female. Things could turn out very bad for Charlie if anyone but especially him ever found out the truth about who Charlie really was.
I have really loved reading all of the Mercy books. But I am not real fund of the world that Charlie lives in. It is a male's world and the women have no place in it. The males give up all of their women so that they can stay alive. Although they are trying to find a cure for the virus the world cannot go on without both male and female. It takes both to keep the world going. Life will not continue without both a man and a woman. What are these men all thinking and where is their hearts at to send all the women away so they can live. Why would they not protect them? What gives them the right to think they can play god?(less)

Gillian Campbell is a licensed nuisance-gator trapper not only is she a gator trapper she is the only one in the county and is always on call. Gators don't care if it is a holiday or not to them all days are the same. Gillian goes to the hospital to visit her best friend Viv who is in ICU after running her car into a tree in the rain. When Gillian leaves ICU after visiting with Viv she gets a call from this guy that wants Gillian to find an old ship wreck, a ship wreck that happened around the 1600s. This guy wants Gillian to find a ruby cross that her ancestor lost. Gillian tells him that is just a family legend and she doesn't know any more than that and that she can't help him. This dude tells her that she is going to help him find it for his boss. He blackmails Gillian into helping him by telling her he will kill her family, friends and other people if she doesn't cooperate with him. Gillian begins to wonder if this guy whom she has dubbed "Tex" is the reason Viv is in the hospital.
"Tex" gives Gillian 30 days to find the cross. The ruby cross is said to belong to the Nights Templars. Gillian is sent to see Shane Burke who owns and lives on a boat called The Evangeline. Shane knows how to scuba dive and he also knows how to dive in deep water. Gillian is sent to hire Shane to take her to the ship wreck and find the ruby cross. Gillian tries to warn her family and friends by getting them to leave and go on a long vacation without letting them know that they are in danger. She wants them out of town and out of danger. But what she doesn't know is if the people that want the cross knows info about her family and friends that they shouldn't know then they will have no problem tracking them down. But the thing is they will probably know the minute they leave town and where they are going. So it probably will not matter to these people where they are because they probably have people all over the world or they will have someone follow them to keep tabs on them until Gillian finds the cross for them before they will be safe if they ever are safe again.
Shane wants to help Gillian but he knows she is lying to him and if he can't get the truth out of her he is not going to help her. But Shane is in for a surprise when he runs into the people who are blackmailing Gillian. Shane finds out real quick like that he has no choice but to help Gillian if he wants to live plus he realizes that his life is not the only one in danger but that they have threatened to hurt his friends and family too. Shane starts to care about Gillian and wants to help her and keep her safe too. So Shane and Gillian start working as a team after Shane tries to leave Gillian behind. Shane wants to leave Gillian at home and not take her to the wreck to look for the ruby cross. Gillian figures out what he is up to and turns the tables on him real fast, so fast that his head starts to spin.
Susannah is a wonderful author, I love her work. I got the chance to read all three of her books in The Penton Legacy and loved them so very much that now I want to read all of her work. I have also read a short story that she wrote called Chenoire, I liked it as well. So when I was given the opportunity to read Lovely, Dark, and Deep I jumped at the chance. I am glad that I did as I loved all of the characters especially Gillian and Shane the two main characters. Gillian is one tough lady who doesn't depend on anyone but herself and she knows how to take care of herself but sometimes we get to a point in our lives when we run into a brick wall and need someone to help us knock it down so we can go on with our lives. In ways Gillian and Shane are a lot alike meaning that they will put their own lives in danger if it will save the ones that they love and care about. Neither one of them likes or wants to be told what to do or be controlled but they will allow it to keep their loved ones safe nor will they allow it until they can turn the tables on their blackmailers.
If you have not read any of Susannah's books as of yet then I strongly suggest that you do and Lovely, Dark, and Deep is a good book to start with. But I am giving you fair warning you may not be able to put any of her books down until you have read the last page.(less)

Maya is your average typical seventeen year old who has gone through a lot in the past couple of years. She has a twin brother Mason who shot and killed their mother and was sent away. The story never told anything about the murder or why he did it. Because of her mother being murdered Maya hates guns and is terrified of them. Maya lives in a world where people are dying and turning into zombies after getting the 212R virus. Her father is a chemist who is working on a cure for the virus. He tells Maya that there is cure and that is why he has to go to work every day even after the virus has made it to the city where he works.
Maya's dad has construction workers come in their home and turn the kitchen pantry into a room for the two of them to stay in until the virus runs its course. They stock up on food and water among other things that they will need to survive. Maya comes home one day to find that the virus has reached her neighborhood. Maya is chased by a zombie so she runs into to her little safe room where she shuts and locks the door. After about two weeks she runs out of water and other supplies and has to exit her little safe room and venture out into the world. When she comes out of her safe room she finds that almost everyone is gone or turned into zombies.
While Maya is out looking for water and food she runs into the zombies and they start chasing her. Maya has to run really fast because these zombies are very fast. It is a good thing that Maya was on the track team at her high school and was the third best runner. Maya knows that the zombies can't reach her if she gets up high because they can't climb. So she climbs up on top of a house. Then she looks down the street and sees a woman with a little girl and they are being chased by zombies. The woman and Maya help the little girl Hunny up on the roof with Maya but before the woman can climb up herself the zombies attack her.
Maya knows her and Hunny need to get off the roof while the zombies are preoccupied. She thinks they need to make it to the woods so they can hide but there is one little problem or should I say zombie standing between them and the woods but Maya figures she can out run one zombie so she takes off to the woods and helps Hunny climb up into a tree. Maya climbs on to a limb of the tree. Hunny gets scared of the zombie because he can reach the limb they are on. But when Maya tries to climb up to the limb that Hunny is on it starts to crack so she has no choice but to stay where she is. But the zombie doesn't bother them.
Maya starts thinking about what she is going to do and where she is going. She remembers her dad telling her that there was a cure for the virus. So she starts out on her journey with Hunny to her dad's office so she can retrieve the cure. On their journey Maya and Hunny run into more zombies and hide under a vehicle hoping that the zombies can't get to them. But they are saved by a zombie. The zombie has on a work uniform with the name Ben on it so Maya assumes that this is his name and starts to call him Ben. Ben follows Maya and Hunny on their journey to get the cure for the virus. Ben watches over and takes care of Maya and Hunny.
Maya has always kind of been a loner and plans on leaving Hunny with the first group of people they run into. But she is in for a surprise when they finally do find other people. Maya makes her plans to leave as soon as she can and without Hunny even though she has come to care for her and is becoming attached to her. Maya has been through so much with losing her mother that she can't or won't let herself feel anything in her heart for anybody else. She is probably afraid that if she lets anyone else into her heart that she will lose them too. She doesn't even know if her dad or brother has survived or not. But Pollard the leader of this group of people wants to take care of Maya and everyone else too but especially Maya.
Elixir is one of the very best books about zombies that I have read in a long time. It is definitely way different than any other zombie book that I have ever read. If you love reading about zombies and the apocalyptic then Elixir is the book for you. Elixir is one of those books that keeps you on the edge of your seat just turning or should I say scrolling those pages as fast as you can. I loved it and can't wait for the next book in the series.(less)

Gisa lost her parents both of her parents at the same time in a car accident....moreI received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.
Gisa lost her parents both of her parents at the same time in a car accident. After losing both of the parents Gisa never had many friends in high school. When she went to college just made a few friends but not many. Gisa was the kind of girl who just stayed to herself. Then she met David and fell in love. Not long after they were married David was sent to Afghanistan. He was killed in the war. Gisa wanted to have David's baby her one and only connection that she would have of her husband. You know something to remember him by and to also have a piece of him with her always.
Gisa had earned her teaching degree and was teaching small children with autism. She loved her job and her kids. She loved being with them and helping them. But she wanted this one last thing from her husband, a baby. So she is artificially inseminated with David's sperm. Then one day one of her Doctors pulls up at her school saying they had to leave and they had to leave now. Gisa couldn't just leave some of her kids were still there at the school and she waiting with them on their parents to pick them up. No way was she going to just leave those children there, standing on the curb by their selves. Gisa and Rayden are being chased by these guys who want Gisa's baby. Rayden is trying to save her from the men that are after her. He is only trying to get her away before they get to her and kidnap her. Gisa doesn't know if she can trust him or not but something tells her that it is ok to go with him.
Rayden and Gisa go on the road and travel across several states trying to stay one step ahead of the men that are after her and her baby. They finally end up ditching them or so they think. Well maybe they did and maybe they didn't even though they didn't see them or think they didn't. With so many members in this group of people there are probably someone from this group in every state they come to. They are more than likely being followed or they actually know where they are the whole time and maybe just playing with them knowing they can catch them anytime they want but they probably need a place where there would not be many witnesses before they take or kill them.
Moonbow is full of mystery, suspense and Christian values. Rayden is a Christian and Gisa is an atheist. She tells Rayden that her parents were agonistic and she was atheist. Rayden is telling her that god will take care of them and keep them safe. He is also telling her about people in the bible but Gisa has no idea who or what is talking about. Being raised agonistic she has never read them bible. But Rayden tells her about the bible, God and Jesus, he is not only trying to save her life he is also trying to save her soul and get her to turn her life over to God.
Moonbow is a great story and I would recommend it to anyone who likes a good mystery with a lot of twist and turns. Rayden and Gisa are two very wonderful people that care about other people and will put others first. They will put their own lives in danger if that is what it takes to save the lives of others. They both come to care about each other so much that they both put their own lives in jeopardy trying to get to the other one to keep them safe when they are torn apart.(less)
