Leonardo's Swans
This began as a silly historical romance and didn't get much better. I was bored and ready to move on to a better.

Three Empires on the Nile: The Victorian Jihad, 1869-1899
Having read several fairly dry histories recently, I gave up on this one. There was just too much military history for my taste.

Eat Your Math Homework
I bought this one just because it's cool. Now I have to find a kid who wants to do the projects. Any one have a 10 year old to lend?

Summer Reading
This is simply generic and trite chick-lit. I didn't hate it, but there is no reason to recommend it.

How to Buy a Love of Reading
This was bad chick-lit and should be shelved with YA books. I didn't expect much and got even less.

The Abyssinian Proof (Kamil Pasha, #2)
The descriptions of life in Istanbul were fun, but the mystery never drew me in.

I was looking for an adventure story. What I got was a horribly written coming of age story.

A Carrion Death (Detective Kubu, #1)
This is a well-written mystery in a different setting than usual. I'll look for other books in the series.

The Night Journal
As many others have said, the author should have stuck with the historical story. The modern-day romance was just silly and predictable.

Bound for Canaan: The Epic Story of the Underground Railroad, America's First Civil Rights Movement
I learned a lot about the underground railroad, but it struck me more as a series of lectures than a single narrative.

Don't Say a Word
I don't know which is worse-the contrived plot or the really badly written sex scenes.

I almost abandoned this halfway through. It's less a mystery than a badly written romance.

Dearest Friend: A Life of Abigail Adams
Well-written, but I didn't learn anything new and it got repetitive. This would be a good introduction to Abigail Adams life.

Whistling Past the Graveyard
It's a plucky little Southern white girl story. The plot isn't plausible but I did enjoy the book.

The Story of Beautiful Girl
