The premise is simple: you want to have a wild, sexual romp on the rodeo circuit? No problem, but you need to sleep with my rodeo partners, too. Channing is game, but as the encounters progress – Colby starts to get a jealous streak and decides he wants to keep Channing for himself. Colby has difficulties because the ménage was his idea and he knows Channing has been enjoying it. There’s also the timing issue as Channing has a teaching job waiting for her on the east coast.
One thing that irked me was Channing’s journal. She would secretly write in a journal throughout the book…it’s clear she doesn’t want the boys to discover it; I believe it’s connected to her studies? Anyone, the journal is then never mentioned again. I wanted more info on that, or a big blow up scene with Colby about Channing’s lies– something!
What completely caught me off guard about Long Hard Ride was that the hottest scene did NOT take place with Channing and Colby, but rather a “surprise” couple. If you were paying attention to the hints, this couple definitely wasn’t a surprise :) The intensity and passion of their scene made me read it again later, before I had even finished the book! This book was my first foray into western romantica, and I can’t help myself… it was a Good Hot Ride ;) (less)

Extremely satisfying, with equal quotients love, sex and desire. This is my second book by Opal Carew, and she has become a must read for me.
The very first line of the book is, “Would you come to a Swingers’ club with me?” This story just jumps right in :) Shane and Melissa have been best friends for years. There’s been some hope for more, especially on Melissa’s part, and now they have suddenly found themselves single at the same time. Shane is tall, sexy, rich and ripped to perfection. An adventurous man with few inhibitions, he needs Melissa to pose as his wife as he evaluates a potential investment – a swingers’ resort called The Sweet Surrender – during the resort’s week long orientation session. Suzanne, the sexy and independent owner of Sweet Surrender, is just as audacious as Shane when it comes to the bedroom. She suspects the unidentified buyer will send an associate to evaluate the resort during orientation. So Suzanne asks her best friend and sometimes lover, the gorgeous private investigator Ty, to pose as her husband and help her identify the potential buyer so she can ensure Sweet Surrender leaves a good impression. From the moment the 2 “couples” arrive at the resort, Ty and Melissa can’t keep their eyes off each other. Melissa is conflicted, because it’s Shane she loves and wants to be with, right? :) I loved Melissa’s transformation through her time at the resort; Sweet Surrender awakens secret desires within she never knew she had.. And Ty? *sigh* You will love him! Melissa, Shane, Ty and Suzanne are ALL integral players in the story here.
Carew did such a fantastic job writing this - as a reader, you really feel as if you, too, are spending a week at Sweet Surrender – the nightly activities and special rooms, so much fun! Blind Man’s Lust, the voyeur rooms, the plays (this is NOT your Broadway fare!), the spontaneity of it all. Sh*t is going down left and right, but it always adds to the plot and never feels gratuitous as it develops one of the main characters in some way. And when you get to the dungeon scene, OMG! And the ending? Carew has done it again! Even MORE amazing then Blush’s ending. FYI, the group sex does involve some female/female interaction….if you can’t handle that, why on earth are you even considering a book called "Swing"? LOL! Enjoy ;) (less)

He was 15 and hurting, and it would be years until she learned the awful magnitude of why, but she did the best she could as a young girl and always made Cam smile. As Jaci began to mature and fill out, Cam noticed and finally decided to act on his feelings for her while on leave from duty. He drags her away to his place, things get hot and heavy,..and then OOPS! Cam forgot to mention his hot brother Chase is always his third. So the rumors about the Falladay twins are true.
Fast forward a few years – Jaci’s still a virgin who has been pining away for Cam with her B.O.B. She arrives in Virginia for a design job at Sinclair’s mansion, namely his discreet ménage club, which also employs Cam & Chase. Cam has gone long enough without Jaci, and he’s determined to claim her. Of course, Jaci and Cam pick up where they left off, but not without Chase! Oh, no! Cam will not have sex without his trusted third. At first, Jaci doesn’t mind. She knew it was a package deal, and some smoking hot ménage sex ensues. But it doesn’t take long for Jaci to begin to want more, and tension begins to build between the threesome. At this point, I began to grow impatient with Cam – his refusal to even cuddle with Jaci after sex! He kept skirting away and refused to sleep with her. Cam is one seriously damaged man – and the reasons behind his darkness are horrific – far worse than I imagined. But even so, IMHO, it wasn’t enough to justify Cam’s peculiar behavior. I especially was irked by the whole “can’t look at her in the eyes during sex unless Chase’s there…or else she’ll see the darkness…see into my soul!!” *cue the dramatic music*
Thankfully, Jaci is willing to do what it takes to break down Cam’s defenses, and with the encouragement of Chase, she’s able to do just that. The chemistry between the h/h was incredibly hot, and albeit slowly – I enjoyed watching Cam change for the better…on the hot sports car...in the rain *yes!*…in his bed.
There are definitely some loose ends regarding Chase, so I’m looking forward to his book, “Only Pleasure.” I also loved the side characters, Courtney and Ian Sinclair, so I am inspired to hop backwards in this series and read their book too. (less)

Also, some of the storytelling was just a little unbelievable. At one point, I busted out a piece of paper and started making a list with 2 columns “Stupid/Pathetic” and “Unbelievable.” But Holly made a MAJOR turn-around for the better about two thirds of the way into the book, so I got over all of it :)
The Colter brothers have a family tradition going back at least several generations: the 3 brothers will share a wife. And they’ll just know “the one” when they find her. All brothers will be instantly attracted to her and recognize her as their mate. The book gets off to a very quick start when Adam Colter finds Holly lying unconscious in the snow near their property. The Colters live together in a secluded Colorado ranch up in the mountains. They earn a comfortable living guiding hunters during the warmer seasons, but it’s Winter now, so they’ve got nothing better to do than have hot sex with their recognized mate Holly :) Unfortunately, Holly happens to be on the run from her crazy, killer husband.
I loved the unique personalities of the brothers. Adam is the very authoritative older brother, so much so he even frightens Holly in the beginning. Ethan is the middle child, and definitely the softest one of the bunch. A little bit of a sap, so Ethan was my least favorite. The youngest brother Ryan was the most complex and definitely the hottest. Ryan was an Iraq POW for several weeks, and the pain and memories still haunt him. Ryan has refused to discuss it, and his brothers recognize he needs healing. (I’m not alone in loving Ryan as he was also the favorite of all my Cincinnati girlfriends who read this book)
The Sex! Here’s where some of the unbelievable part comes in….someone has saved their virginity for marriage, runs away from their husband before consummation, and gives it up to 3 strangers?? And the ease with which Holly has rather advanced sex was very troubling. So you’ll need to suspend your disbelief a bit. But do it, because MAN was it hot! Ryan, the military man, was very dominating in the bedroom. When he orders you to drop your pants, you listen! :) Lots of spontaneous sex in a barn, an elevator, a hotel room, and bedrooms. Men drawing hot baths for you, bathing you, washing your hair---it was a woman’s dream. Holly has individual and ménage a quatre sex with all the brothers. (Note: it’s too bad hotels don’t clean their sofas often, because they use the hell out of one in Denver!)
Although the “mate” recognition is instant, the loves takes time and it comes across as believable. Three hot cowboys loving on one woman was enough to redeem all the problems I had with this book. (less)
