Or maybe it’s one of the many people that eerily keep showing up at her spooky house. Or it could even be hallucinations due to the medication she’s been prescribed to deal with the death of her husband. Ms. Schulte has crafted the perfect story that kept me guessing until the very end—which completely blind-sided me. There were several flashbacks to help relive the husband’s memory and they were done is such a way as to not slow the story down. This novel is a perfect match for that scary Dean Koontz book lover. http://www.ashleyrobertsonbooks.com/r... (less)

Lots of action and suspense surrounded the main theme of love, some a bit juicier than the others. So even if you’re not into romance, there’s plenty of other stuff going on that promises great entertainment. It’s really hard for me to peg a favorite as I thought the entire collection was amazing and I was introduced to a few authors I’d never read before—and now I’m looking forward to checking out other books they’ve written. http://www.ashleyrobertsonbooks.com/r...(less)

Some major questions have been answered, but only more seem to pile up as Jade tries to come to grips with what she’s become, though that, in itself, is one of the big mysteries. Unlikely allegiances and betrayal at every turn, then of course, there’s lots of kick-ass fighting which Ms. Swing does an exceptional job with portraying. A small downside with this book was that it seemed rushed with lots of misspelled words and about halfway through the formatting changed, then a chapter or two later it shifted back…then it changed again. Some might be able to overlook this, but it actually drove me a little crazy and it effected how quickly I could move through the story. Regardless of that, I still think this is a great novel and I look forward to reading the third and final installment. http://www.ashleyrobertsonbooks.com/r...(less)

Ms. Swing is a gifted storyteller and I enjoyed being pulled inside Jade’s anything-but-normal world. There is enough mystery where you’re constantly trying to figure things out and some bubble gum romance that will surely sate the youthful reader. There were even a few huge surprises that I hadn’t seen coming—and I really like when a book can do that. Once I was able to get over Jade acting spoiled and selfish (like most teenagers), I began to appreciate her as the lead role and applauded some of her decisions—when she was actually able to make them. Overall, I think Lucy did a great job and I would highly recommend this book for young adults of all ages. http://www.ashleyrobertsonbooks.com/r...(less)

Earlier in the week, I started reading Secrets with a pretty hefty TBR pile that I planned to get to right after I finished. But that’s not how it worked out. Once I finished Ms. Schulte’s spectacular, unique story, I had to have more, as I’m sure that was her intentions with the way Secrets ended. So I dove head first into Choices and devoured that book too. I think it’s safe to say I’ve found a new author that I love and a story that I connected with deep down in the depths of my soul. Secrets is told in the first person (my favorite way to read paranormal books) by both Olivia and Holden’s POV. Liv is different than your average twenty-something woman, but the suspense to learn why is perfectly crafted by Ms. Schulte, who uses Holden to help us put the pieces together, only Holden has his own secrets and when Liv finally discovers them, let’s just say her being pissed is an understatement. And then when Holden makes a pretty big decision for Liv, my heart pretty much plummeted. I can’t really delve into much more without giving away key points of the book that I actually enjoyed learning while reading the story.
Choices picks up a few years later, and now we have a 3rd MC to assist with Liv and Holden’s story. Quintas is a guardian and he’s had a little crush on Olivia, but clearly he knows her heart belongs to Holden, even though in this book, Holden attempts to make you hate him by some of the repulsing things he does. But for me, he fails miserably. There’s just something about him that I love and I can’t help but to route for him. Again, I don’t want to say too much because the story is so exciting and I’d hate to spoil that for anyone that hasn’t read it, and just like its prequel, Choices is a thrilling, suspenseful page-turner that will hook its teeth in you and keep your eyes glued until you reach the end and you’re begging Liz for book #3 of this badass trilogy. There is only one negative comment that I have—and it is nothing to do with the story. Both books have several grammar errors, Secrets a little more than Choices, and as I’ve mentioned in other reviews, I am just one of those readers that cannot overlook them. But even though they were there, and attempted to slow down the pace, the story was still juicy enough that I couldn’t help but keep going. I highly recommend both of these books to anyone looking for a different type of paranormal romance. You will not be disappointed. And I am anxiously awaiting the release of Consequences, the 3rd and final installment of this Guardian Trilogy. http://www.ashleyrobertsonbooks.com/r...(less)

This futuristic paranormal thriller was pumped so full of action, I’m still trying to catch my breath. In the future world where this story takes place, things don’t look so good for the supes (supernatural beings, i.e.: vamps, werewolves, time travelers, etc.) and the government is capturing them one by one to either experiment or exterminate them, the lucky ones surviving only by agreeing to abandon their lives and work for the very people that caught them. So when Ellie’s fate is thrown in the hands of a stranger named Nick, she has no other options but to trust him, all the while Nick is wondering why he’s getting involved in the first place since he’d so far successfully remained hidden under the radar of the evil governor. He quickly learns that she is a supe, like him, and then the whirlwind of their escape begins. There is very little romance, so the only reader this wouldn’t be for is someone wanting hot and steamy love scenes, but even so, I’m quite sure this story will still captivate you and take you on one heck of a ride. Amazing Job, Nicki! You really knocked this one out of the park! http://www.ashleyrobertsonbooks.com/r...(less)

Twin sisters born into a family of witches, one sister (Jilly) embracing the power while the other one (Caroline) refuses to acknowledge it. Then something devastating happens and Caroline takes off never looking back, leaving Jilly to pick up the pieces and learn everything she can about magic (which Ms. Gibson’s creativity for spells and potions is fantastic and very believable). Then we meet William, who I struggled to like throughout the book. He claimed him and Jilly were soul mates, but for some reason I just didn’t trust him. However, Ms. Gibson uses him as a way to introduce a whole new species, one I’d never heard of before, and I won’t mention it here because I don’t want to spoil it for anyone reading the book. But with William comes a dark past that eventually catches up with him and ultimately puts Jilly in danger. Ms. Gibson’s character development was excellent and there was plenty of action in the book. My main issue was that several parts of the story did seem to drag along, and some of it felt unnecessary, and it messed with the overall flow of the book. There were also some grammar hiccups, which I know a lot of people can overlook, but I’m one of those who can’t. The ending was left wide open, and I’m looking forward to reading the sequel, Chasing The Witch. I have no doubt that Jessica has a winning series on her hands and it will only get better from here. http://www.ashleyrobertsonbooks.com/r...(less)

However, I must admit at first, I was a little disconnected with the protagonist, Leila (stage name Frankie), and Vlad’s coldness was a bit harsh, as I was used to seeing him have a soft spot for Cat in the Night Huntress series. But it didn’t take long for Jeaniene’s amazing, ever so gifted writing skills to rope me back in and not only hook me, but dig those fangs deep into my juicy, succulent blood stream. All the action, tension, drama, passion, and piping hot sex will fulfill you in every way possible—just like most of Ms. Frost’s other novels. She even brings Bones, Cat, Mencheres, and Kira in for a scene just to give us a familiar flavor of the characters we’ve grown to love. Jeaniene is a badass, kickass, amazingly imaginative storyteller and I cannot wait for not only the sequel to this book, but also her next installment of Cat and Bone’s Night Huntress series. Way to go Jeaniene! **big hug! For more, visit my blog: http://www.ashleyrobertsonbooks.com/r...(less)

This book is a mythical science fiction thriller with a lot of twists and turns that kept me guessing. Ms. Powell has interspersed several worlds with various eras, and at first, it was quite challenging for me to keep it all straight. Told in third person by several different characters—all of them seemingly consumed with their own affairs—it was nice how C.G. pulled it all back around, but the book’s ending still left me with a few unanswered questions, so I’m assuming there may be a sequel. While I wouldn’t say this book is a page-turner, it surely still held my attention and entertained me with an array of emotions as I read along, which is something I think a book must do for its readers. Ms. Powell has a great writing style that flows along nicely and I only encountered a few grammar errors. I would recommend this to anyone that’s looking for a fresh sci-fi/supernatural fiction story. For more info on C.G. click here. (less)
