I have all her books, including A Rat and a Ransom in paperback. In Through a Glass, I turned the page and ended up reading until 4am! The entire story idea was very unique and not many can give such animated life to both four legged and winged friends as good as this author can.
In Through a Glass, it'd be hard for me to pick favorite characters, but I know that Stagman ranked right up there. The journey into beautiful, and some frightening cities was a page turner. The evil forest was a place I could picture so well. All that darkness and those dang trees! YI Lee does a great job at making the reader experience it all.
Irene, the main character, is an artist who ends up being transported into her painting. As the journey unfolds, there are lots of surprises, and the biggest one, I never saw coming at all. Faith is a theme throughout, and it was a breath of fresh air to witness love, deception, evil, goodness, and new friendships described so wonderfully. One of the characters I won't name, but I will always remember his beauty...
If only we could all soar like Zenith. I really wish this book was a series. It was hard to say goodbye to all the delightful characters. They worked as a team, and the plots were created by such a great imagination!
I will forever recommend this book. I can't wait until I can place this paperback beside the others! ...more

One page made me keep turning to find out what happened next. I loved the characters, and probably my favorite scenes involved Claire, Matt, Jamie, and Hank when they were together. They each brought a different facet, and I could clearly picture them. When a story touches such delicate subjects as this one did, I need for there to be purpose and Itsy Bitsy Spider had it. Plenty of Bravery. I also loved how Claire was such a wonderful mother.
The descriptions of scenes weren't over the top, and the action, which there was an awful lot of, was written wonderfully. The suspense was right up my alley. It didn't drag out, and there were moments when I had to stop my world to find out what happens next.
I loved how the author paid close attention to detail, carefully bringing in all the different components at the right times. If you're looking for a great political thriller, this is it. There is more than one tangled web in this story...lots of twists and turns.
I love strong female characters, and there are a slew of them in Itsy Bitsy Spider. I loved this first novel by Kimberly Shursen, and I'll definitely be recommending it. ...more

Then...I stumbled upon this book and just based on the title, I had to read it. I love the cover and when I saw that it was written by a Jeff and Kelle Barr, I thought, now I really have to read it! A married couple? Yep, it was definitely a must read.
This book has a bunch of short stories that are so realistic. There's more than a few of them that I certainly related to. The authors didn't just tell stories, they wrote with such passion, and their style of writing keeps you intrigued. They took their time with character development and did so with such precision. That's what made each story about your neighbor, friend, co-worker, even yourself. Nothing was far fetched. It was easy to sit there and go, "I would say that! I would think that!"
I highly recommend this book of incredible short stories. It would even make a great beach read, or something to curl up with on a late night. The characters are everyday people so you won't see fantasy, but you will see romance, crime, love, passion, and a few other things, so if you're searching for any of those topics, don't skip over this one! I will definitely pick up anything these two brilliant authors compose....more

A Healing Place literally takes the reader on a journey to experience Black Sunday and the horrible dust storms that wiped out so many people, destroying farms, livestock, anything in it's path. This is the first historical fiction I've ever read since high school, which was a long time ago lol. Now I know what I've been missing.
The Miller family is forced to face the loss of their farm, starvation, devastation, like I've never been witness to, and thank God for that. Through all of their hardships and trials, they never stopped believing in each other, the power of family, and they never once let their faith dwindle.
This was beyond just a history lesson for me. After their long journey, going from camp to camp to try to find work, food, and shelter, they end up in Texon, Texas. The author, according to her blog, actually lived there as a child so the details are quite believable. Just like her details throughout this wonderful, inspirational novel, could not only be seen vividly in my mind, but I felt like I was there. I could feel my skin crawl when they had to clean out the 4 inches of dust and dirt from their home, the many insects..The depression was the first devastation then on top of that, came Black Sunday.
I knew that the POW's in WWII were tortured by the Japanese. But through Jed, a character I fell in love with in the beginning, I felt such sorrow, compassion, and that part of the book, definitely gave me a knew respect for those who were and are in the service.

I adore the love and romance between Cassie and Max. Cassie blackmailing Max into an interview was definitely a unique idea. Max has just the right amount of alpha-ness to him to make him very sexy while Cassie is beautiful for being so down to earth. She learns through her interview that this Anderson bachelor isn't like her preconceived ideas of the mysterious Max who stays out of the public eye. I wouldn't have minded getting trapped in a cabin in Alaska with Max the same way Cassie did! This is definitely a steamy, sexy, romance, by Melody Anne. I can't wait to read the next one! ...more

After reading this short story I laughed at the end, and thought to myself, "She sooo nailed it!" Not only was this an ingenious idea for a story, but it was just written well. Eve Lopez was able to wear different shoes and make the reader feel like they weren't alone in their past mishaps lol.
A great work of fiction with realistic accuracy! ...more

I don't have much"Sex, Drugs, and Psychiatric Wards" by Eve Lopez reads like a diary, and an honest one at that. I often forgot that it wasn't true. I don't have much in common with Lucy, the main character, but within a few pages I was totally connected to her.I found myself wanting better things for her and for her to find love and happiness. But Eve Lopez created this amazing young woman and never slipped an inch. She stayed completely true to this character, in every event, situation, and dialogue. Soon after, I would think,'Yeah, Lucy would definitely say that.' I became pretty close to this young, lost woman and cherished my evening time I got to read about her.
Lucy was raised in a very destructive home. Leaving for college was her true beginning to find her place in this world. Her mother was mentally ill and had abandoned her, and her father was detached and put his daughter on the back burner. I believe Lucy went away to college to run. To be free of all her pain she couldn't express verbally. She was running from her fears, and running from the truths she knew were there all along. Not fitting in at college made her run again, but the transportation she chose was alcohol and drugs. Mental health units, suicide attempts, and self-destructive behavior almost brought her to the end.
This is such a thought provoking novel. If you take your time reading this book, as did I, you'll find many different facets to Lucy, and many underlying psychological problems that were well threaded in this book. Being a nurse for as long as I was, I can tell you that Lucy's story isn't off base. Neither was her medical treatment or anything else she went through. I found myself wanting to reach out to her, even though I knew she was fictional. That just tells you something about this writer's wonderful ability.
If there was a sequel to this novel, I would love that. I would like to find out what happens to Lucy after she arrives in New York, when she grows up...all of it. This is definitely an author I will follow. She is an amazing story teller....more

There are some plot twists in the story that staggered me for a bit. I'm not a fan of rats at all, but Mask is a rat to grow fond of. It's difficult to write about this story without disclosing the surprising ending. I was a little disappointed in that twist, but only due to selfish reasons. It only goes to show you that this author, Y.I Lee, is capable of taking the reader's mind any place she chooses and that's a good talent. I loved the nine year old boy, Tom, and she portrayed him fabulously. He's quite an amazing boy who goes on a dangerous adventure after being kidnapped. This story will indeed, keep you turning the pages. There is lots of suspense, and if you or a 5th grader likes action and adventure, this would be a really nice pick. Make sure you put the time aside to complete this book once you start it, or you could be late for an appointment or such!...more
