It is a quick easy read with sadness and fun and lots of childish questions. A ten=year old and loses her grandfather and goes with her grandmother on a trip to Greece that was planned for Grandma and Grandpa, meets people, has some adventures. She loves mermaids and pretty things and attends a wedding in a special way.(less)

Also, the bit about Ayla and Jondalar and Merona is a repeat of an earlier event in reverse. I like learning stuff, but not being beaten over the head with it. The interesting stuff should cause the reader to want to do more research, not puke with tiredness. I've read all the books in this series and the first is the best, they get progressively weaker. She needs a good editor.(less)

A beautiful actress is murdered and her daughter, only 4 years old, is the only "witness." The son of the cop investigating the case sees the girl on TV and never gets her out of his mind--he decides to write a book about the murder. But it's not as simple as he thinks it might be, Good book.
I had an idea about the ending and it was fairly accurate, but not entirely. Suspenseful, interesting, engaging.(less)

Ethan, an art Collector who despises his father is called to one of his father's apartment complexes by Tony Wexler, his father's assistant, to view some art which is stunningly good. However, the artist has disappeared and may have committed murder. Many plot twists! n Not gruesome or gory.(less)

King, several days ago but with Christmas prep (baking pies and cookies, shopping, making cards) haven't had time to write about it and don't really have time now. It's a sequel to The Language of Bees and I liked it a lot. I like the intelligence and innate goodness of the main characters. I like that they are not mean and horrid like so many detectives in novels, but essentially human. The story is compelling (to me--some others have complained it is not but I liked it). Mary Russel has run off in an aeroplane trying to save her granddaughter--and the plane crashes--Sherlock Holmes and his son Damian escape by sea after Damian has been critically wounded by a religious fanatic who was trying to sacrifice him at an altar, and they discover that someone worse yet is behind the attacks. The book is both face-paced and thoughtful--which is a great balancing act, in my mind. I do not like the bad things that some of the main characters do, but the book over all is quite worthy, in my opinion.(less)

It was engaging, interesting, well-written. Mary Russell, Sherlock Holmes's wife, assists Holmes in trying to locate the missing wife of Holmes's unexpected son. The plot thickens, with lots of excitement. The Villain is a religious freak killing for religious reasons. I will definitely look for the sequel and probably the prequel as well. (less)

I've read it before and started crying about halfway through while it was funny and fun, remembering as it went along how it would end. Later listened to an interview with Ken Kesey and Terry Grosse, very interesting. I met Ken Kesey and have photos I took of his bus, back int he 60s.(less)

It was so well-written that I didn't notice that first. It's number 18, but it stood alone very well.
I hated it at first. I almost took it back to the library. There was a POV character who was so despicable that I was afraid the whole book would be horrible.
Then, I loved it. Doc Ford is a biologist and an intelligent person, very cool, wants to rescue a girl in trouble. YES! I like that. I also loved the girl, Tula. The book went along really well for quite some time, exciting, engaging, interesting. THEN Doc Ford committed "an unforgivable sin" in my mind. It threw me for a loop. I cried, not becasue the story was sad, but becasue I was so confused about the protagonist. I want to say more about it, and I may come back and do so.
This book is interesting, but not for the faint of heart. It is NOT a cozy mystery!!!(less)

It was fun and interesting with useful lessons that didn't beat the reader over the head. A lot of hard work and sacrifice is required to do well at any endeavor. But life can still be quite enjoyable. And so can the book. Set in England, Anda discovers gymnastics and the rigors of learning and competition. I will be passing this on to my granddaughter and I belive she will really enjoy it.(less)

I want to write a review. This book is a rant about Rant, otherwise known as Buster Casey. It is told in the many voices of his loved ones and acquaintances. The action is believable and builds well toward and to a climax. The characters are likable and believable. Except Duncan, who was a little too good to be true, in my opinion. Not that I didn't like him, I did. Wouldn't we all want someone like him! Rich, attractive, sexy, kind, supportive. Oh yeah! I waffled between 4 and 5 stars. If it were a ten point system, I'd have given it a 9, based on the unbelievability of Duncan and the graphic descriptions of some horrible murders. I know they have to be somewhat graphic . . . The book started off fabulously! Very interesting, mysterious and evocative. It devolved into a series of gory disgusting wars. Just when I was about to permanently give up on it, it got better again. None of the characters were entirely likable, including the speaker and main protagonist. She starts out likable but turns into a bitch. She is too power hungry. It makes a pretty good novel, but the war parts are boring and icky. Yes yes, I know real wars are boring and horrible, but that doesn't mean I want to read on and on about them.(less)
