This is the story of Enola Holmes, the younger sister of the famous detective, Sherlock Holmes. Her mother mysteriously disappears on her 14th birthday, and despite interference by her brothers, Sherlock and Mycroft, she is determined to find her. When she sets out on her quest, she finds herself unwittingly involved in another missing person's case, which she can't help but investigate. She is drawn into the investigation, which proves she's definitely her brother's sister. I love her character. She is a smart, spunky and determined young girl, who I couldn't help but like!...more

A friend, who knew how much of a Stephen King fan I am recommended this to me. He said that "Uncle Stevie" was actually a big fan of Child's and has reviewed and recommended him several times. Now, how can I be steered wrong by that!
Jack Reacher is a retired military man, who is wrongly convicted of murder the second he enteres this town. And that happens in the first few pages! He helps the local police detective solve the case and I have to say that he is one of the most thorough, careful and thoughtful investigator I have ever encountered in my reading. The way he comes to conclusions and plans his next move is really something. And let's not to forget how cunning and dangerous he can be at the same time!
I will definitely be reading more Jack Reacher! ...more

He had a huge single volume that contained The Complete Sherlock Holmes, which he jokingly referred to as his "bible." He always had anywhere between 6 and 8 books going at one time, and one of them was always the Sherlock Holmes. It was for this reason that since this year was 25 years since my father had passed away, I wanted to read one of his favorite books as a sort of tribute. I chose this one because not only is Sherlock Holmes one of his all-time favorites, but since my interests were veering towards horror, he even recommended this one to me personally. I just never got to it until now. Stupid me!
This isn't my first Sherlock Holmes story, so I knew all to well what to expect. You get a whole lot of information thrown at you, and as hard as you try to catch it all and to process it, Sherlock Holmes always gets to the punchline first! This book starts off and really makes you wonder if the answer to the question at hand is supernatural. I won't tell you, that's part of the fun w/ a mystery, but you won't be disappointed!
I'll definitely read more of these. My dad was reading over my shoulder throughout this book and I look forward to that again soon!...more
