It's just sad that this book is far from what I expected. Here are some of the things I love & hate about the book:
Hate: - Insta-love between Sophie & Nic: These two kids barely even know each other. Actually, even the way they met was creepy. So, Nic's family moved into a house that was long abandoned, Sophie got curious and spied the new family in the middle of a night where she bumped into him and then, ran away. They met again at the diner where Sophie worked, where pretty much nothing significant happened either. After that, for some reason, they started to spew some cheesy lines about love and stuff to each other. Like, where were all of these coming from? I just don't understand their attraction towards each other. What does Sophie see in him? What does Nic see in her? - Sophie is a weak heroine: She needed saving like all the time! And what was with the whole Robbie Stenson scenario? Was that even necessary? Why in the world do we need that? It just underlined the fact she constantly needs saving! Urgh - The whole teenage drama that took up like 70% of the book: I started reading the book expecting some sort of bad-ass mafia shizzles, but much to my disappointment, pretty much most of the book was about teenage drama. Like the whole, "I love you, you love me, but we can't be together" or "I love you even if I know nothing about you" spiel. I was like, "What the hell am I reading?" But I kept reading thinking that it might get better. And it didn't. Even the revelation about the whole Falcones & Sophie's uncle identity didn't surprise me.
Love: - Gianluca: Can we please get more of this guy? He acted like a jerk most of the time but I felt like there's more to this guy than meets the eye. I'm definitely interested to learn more about the whole Gianluca & Valentino thing. Can we get a backstory please? - The whole mafia business: The premise of this book was pretty interesting. Actually this is the first time I've read about mafia family. I'm interested to read more about the whole mafia family business, like how they operates and stuff like that.
At first, I gave this book a three stars, but when I finished writing this review, I realized that there's nothing much that I actually liked about the book. The only reason I kept reading was because I was expecting it to get better (since the goodreads rating for this book is so high!) but it didn't. I'm not sure if I'll be catching the next book of the series, we'll see how it goes when the next book comes out. ...more
