REALLY REALLY well-drawn characters, interesting and startling plotting, enough Lost-ish mysteries and twists to keep you going, a great guilty pleasure. Despite being fairly apathetic about teenagers, couldn't put it down, I'm excited to keep up with this comic!(less)

I liked many things about it, but some of it was kinda emo for my tastes. I mean, I like depth in comics, it's so hard to accomplish, but I guess it's pretty hard to humanize a character that is, by definition, closed off from everyone. Superman is unto himself, and since he had no real deep relationships in this book besides his mother, it was hard to root for him. There were some cool parts, and the art was great though. Would recommend the read!(less)

Very indie style story about a girl in her twenties moving from SF to NYC. I haven't read Fart Party, her other work, but I really enjoyed the perspective, even though I wanted to throttle her at times for being so self-destructive. It definitely has that hipster "I'm messed up, watch me be unrepentantly messed up" vibe to it, but I enjoyed it and the simple but frequently LOL drawing style.
It's not best read in one sitting, it gets a bit repetitive and the story is more vignettes than overarching storylines. There's a humanity to it that's very refreshing though, and I'd like to have a drink with the author. Er, correction: maybe prevent her from having a drink with me, because drinking is so clearly bad for her, haha. Go out for malts? Aw, whatever.(less)

The art in this...Alex Ross, you are my hero. Spectacular, the style is like a painting, every frame a work of art. I missed some key backgrounds though, and some of them were kinda similar, I mean Elastic and Plastic Man, what's the difference. But 2 pages a character, it was a nice whirlwind education! Definitely let me to want to pick up stories of a few characters, like Hawkman...for some weird reason, lol.(less)

I loved the idea of integrating and re-inventing the Marvel characters in Elizabethan Europe. The parallels were really clever between the mutants and the Inquisition etc. Despite some confusing panel art, I read this whole graphic novel in one sitting, and definitely want more in this universe!

SO glad I finally picked it up, Ooooh what I was missing! The Unwritten is an awesome, fun ride in surrealism and fandom and literature. I can't really explain it in detail, it's much better to just read it yourself, but if you're a comic lover RUN to get this. So fun!(less)

I dunno, a few of them didn't feel tied into what we've been used to in the previous comics, and a few I felt could have gone further, actually I liked them but felt like I would have liked a more dramatic arc for the Amina one, since she is a really interesting character. Didn't feel like we learned MORE about her from the stand alone. Still really enjoyable, but felt overall skippable in context.(less)

This book was given to me by USA Today's PopCandy blogger Whitney Matheson (the coolest chick I know in media, serious). I was like, wtf is this? Graphic novel about food? Oooh boy!
I love it! It's so weird and wonderful, the drama over food is so hysterical, and yet seems to give me a glimpse into Japanese culture that I'd never have any other way. I love love it! So strange and interesting at the same time. makes me want to go over there for an eating tour! Will read all of them :D(less)

I read this in one sitting, I enjoyed it like an indie movie, but it was really reading the artist/writer entries at the back that led me to re-read it and appreciate it on a whole different level. I am beginning to really love the innovation and freedom of narrative that is possible with the graphic novel genre. This is a great entry for my shelf of keepers!(less)
