Cristo Ravelli travels to Ireland to arrange for the adoption of his father’s illegitimate children but all his plans are thwarted by their feisty half-sister, who pretends to be their mother (who is dead) to avoid the family from being separated. ( I did think it a bit of a stretch that someone had 5 children by the age of 25….but hey, these days, people start young…right?????) A marriage of convenience is agreed upon and pretty soon Belle Brophy (love her name) finds herself falling in love with a Ravelli and scared she will have her heart broken just like her mother.
This is such a lovely story. And despite the predictability of the plot……angsty moments, the consequences of Belle’s lie and misunderstandings, it was still great reading. Cristo is not your usual super alpha-male…he’s kind and understanding, admired and respected Belle, who at times did some pretty crazy things…..
Loved Belle’s family….the kids were really amazing and cute and the grandmother was totally fabulous! The settings are vividly written…..loved the Ireland scenes. The love scene on Cristo & Belle’s wedding night was absolutely awesome. Sensual and beautiful and stunning… I am looking forward to Nik and Betsy’s story next…wow, there’s something going on there that’s totally intriguing.

A bit of a catch up with Penn Cage sinceA novella filling in between the author's previous book, The Devil's Punchbowl and the next, Natchez Burning.
A bit of a catch up with Penn Cage since his last adventure.
His father has a heart attack and fearing death as asked for Penn as he needs to tell him a secret. But when Penn arrives at the hospital, his father denies ever saying that.
Most of the story is really about a case Penn had worked on years before when he lived in Texas and how it has always remained in his mind. He talks about his deceased wife, Sarah and how her last days had affected the whole family. It was nice to know a bit about her.
There's something in this story that is connected to the next novel - we are left with a cliffhanger, which happens suddenly, with no warning whatsoever....I can't wait to see where that leads to next.

Sounds familiar, right?? Fifty Shades of Grey, Bared to You and a lot of more with similar plots. But wait…..why was I so into the story within reading the first couple of pages?
No one can deny that plots are constantly done over and over again but what made this story unique and fresh were the characters. Tristan Stone may be a sexy and dark millionaire like Christian Grey and we could see something of Anastasia in Nina Edwards. However, the author brings another perspective to the “same old story”. We get to see a different view on how the characters act in similar situations.
I found Nina very engaging…she’s had a few tragedies and disappointments in the past, struggling to find her place in the world, feelings of insecurity, too trusting at times – and then she has this spark in her that you can’t help wanting her around you.
Tristan Stone – how cool is that name!!!!!!!!! And never mind that he’s this mysterious, powerful and mesmerizing and gorgeous too. And totally irresistible.
“But what made Tristan stunning were those deep, soulful eyes. Warm brown eyes the shade of melted milk chocolate I could have spent the rest of time getting lost in.”
I did find Tristan’s behavior a bit odd at times…well, most of the times. All the secret phone calls, totally “zoning” out on Nina…hot and cold!!! He hurts her so many times but he does redeem himself….I could understand why Nina can’t stay away….
“The way he was made me crazy. Crazy for him. Crazy because of him. Fucking crazy. He's left this morning without a word or even a gentle brush of his hand against mine to say goodbye, and he's returned wanting nothing but me. What was with this guy? How did he do it? I could barely keep my hands off him, and there were times he stood close enough to touch me and never did. It was maddening. And I loved it.”
There was something dark and mysterious about Tristan but what made him grab me was the kindness, the caring and loving he showed for Nina. Nina brings something pure and beautiful into his life – opening up his heart and feelings he had shut off. We never really get into Tristan’s head as the story is told from Nina’s POV, except for the epilogue, where it changes to his. I would have loved to see what his thoughts where, see a different side of him. Why he could be so cold and then the opposite. We do get to see the softer side to him as his relationship with Nina develops, which just blew me away.
Sexy, sensual, steamy and hot scenes……….
Fabulous settings….America, Venice…
I don’t want to get too much into the plot – avoiding all those spoilers – but I did realize that there was more to Tristan’s meeting with Nina…just never guessed exactly what, which made it a total surprise for me. In fact, nothing what I was expecting. As secrets are revealed, will it destroy the love they have?
What a great start to a new series and I am looking forward to the next chapter in Tristan & Nina’s life. ...more

A fast-paced thriller, The Emperor’s Tomb by Steve Berry is the 8th book in the Cotton Malone series and it pulls you from the moment Cotton is faced with having to save Cassiopeia Vitt’s life in exchange for an ancient Chinese artifact that different groups want and will do anything to get it in their possession. He’s soon drawn into a power struggle in China, which takes him from Copenhagen, Antwerp and to the most incredible cultural sites in China. The struggle between the two opponents, one a believer in Confucianism, the other in Legalism, could destroy the balance of power in China, which would affect the rest of the world.
The difference between legalism and Confucianism is that, legalism demands harsh criminal sanctions that are consistent, so as to promote a cohesive society through fear, whereas Confucius demands firm, yet gentle leadership of a cultivated population, which will brings harmony through education in virtue.
An outstanding and in-depth plot, filled with danger, suspense, twists and turns, double crosses, violence and death. The climax at the
What made the story for me was the amazing detail of the culture and history facts of China. He interweaves the plot with historical fact so well – not just facts and figures – in such a way that had me wanting to find out more about the historical part and even had me look up abiotic oil!!!!!!!!!! And the part about Tiananmen Square..wow…. I am totally serious….I did do a lot of “goggling”….wanting to see and know more about the subject in the plot. That’s what makes a great writer. To get you totally immersed in a world he creates!!!! And how brilliant….at the end of the book, he gives us a section where he tells us what fact is and what is fiction in the book!!!! I love that he does that with all his books. I love his writing style, his brilliant and unforgettable characters and the historical topics of his books. The only moan I have….wanted more of Cotton and Cassiopeia together..I hope that these two get together…I mean really together, in the future. A nice and surprise at the end…..and I can’t wait for the next book. ...more

I love the fact that Malone has a love for books………just like me!!! And he has something I would have loved to have owned……his very own bookstore!!!
This story focuses primarily on Malone’s friend and mentor, Henrik Thorvaldsen, who has discovered who the person responsible for the tragic death of his beloved son, and is bent on destroying him. To do this, he becomes a member of the secret and dangerous Paris Club, a cabal of some of the richest people in the planet, who plan to destabilize the global economy, destroying famous landmarks and causing world chaos, thus gaining more power and riches. This gets him closer to his son’s killer, who is also a member of the club.
Malone is in a race against time, as he tries not only to discover the truth of what Henrik has told him but also trying to keep him from being killed. .
The historical part of the plot is about Napoleon Bonaparte
that starts with him conquering Cairo and ends with his exile in St. Helene. We are given bits of real history interwoven with the WHAT IF? Napoleon had stolen many treasures on his “conquering” trips but until his death in 1821, had never revealed the locations where they were hidden. But did he tell his secret to someone in his last days? A member of the Paris Club believes that the treasure exists
she has inherited books and documents supposedly written by Napoleon, and she will do anything to discover it. Not only is she in the race to find the legendary treasure, but others as well.
The history presented is really fascinating and I really want to know more ….…in fact, after I finished this book, I did look up a lot of information on Napoleon. I loved this quote of his
We follow Malone on a breathless journey of treachery, deception, death and surprise that takes us to Denmark, London and Paris and along the way, we see characters we have met before like Stephanie Nelle, Malone’s ex boss at Magellan Billet and the new character, Ross Collins, FBI agent on the run and helping Henrik. I hope he plays a part in the next books.
The history that this author incorporates into the story is really impressive and one can see the amazing research he did.
Another quote which I thought fitted well in with the Paris Club cabal’s greediness and hunger for power -

At 14, after the death of his mother, he’s taken away to live with an aunt living in Australia, vowing never to return to Russia. After university, he works hard and becomes a zillionaire (I don’t remember how he made those millions….).
He’s going through a rather tough time – his ex-wife is getting married and has told him she’s taking their 14 year old son back to Russia – her new husband is Russian as well….she’s something like Russian/Australian so I guess she loves those] Russkiye muzhchiny..that’s Russian men!!! See how good I am that I give you the translation????????
I found the hero totally unlikeable and I saw nothing in him that I could ever think he could be redeemed. Selfish, self-absorbed, self-centered…..and I don’t care if he’s a zillionaire – that he thinks the world has to open up to his requests.
Alina Ritchie, wanted to be a painter but when he mother lost her flower farm became a pa even though she has no talent for that position whatsoever. She’s no willowy Helen of Troy…she’s a country gal at heart with a hearty appetite thus her clothes fitting very tightly over her well-downed body (Demyan describing Alina At first, he hadn’t recognized her. He’d been far too busy admiring a bottom and tanned, freckled, rather heavy legs, and then Alina had turned around and he’d realized they belonged to her.”….. I think that she also doesn’t have designer clothes at this stage…. and blushes at everything!!!
She’s hired as Demyan’s temporary PA….naturally, she has no clue about the duties entailing that position but she needs the money…don’t we all.
Despite Demyan’s despicable behavior, she falls so totally in love with him. And Demyan………remember he likes sexy and willowy “loose” women and only does one night stands…but…wait, let me close my mouth..because this is what I looked like when he thinks that he would like to do Alina.
He asks Alina to go with him to a charity event……..
“When we arrive, do I-?” “I arrive,” Demyan said. “you will go in separately. I am a single man, Alina. You don’t want to ruin my chances, now, do you?”
He leaves Sydney to follow his son to Russia – no goodbye to Alina – instead he sends his driver to her apartment with this message:
“Mr Zukov has asked for the return of any keys and also the elevator pass”
Demyan takes ALPHA-MALES to new heights and not the ones I like to see in my heroes!!!!! How Alina possibly even give this guy a chance???? Even for (view spoiler)[her baby’s sake!!! Yes, of course she gets pregnant!!! You know these condoms that break so easily…no, I think she was on the pill but forgot to take just ONE!!!!! RIGHT!!! (hide spoiler)]
I like, very much, the new hot, sensual and sexy scenes written in the latest M&B books, but honestly, there was something so NOT sexy about the two mc’s “couplings”
The lovely weight of Demyan was over her, his thigh nudging her legs apart. “How much will it hurt?” “How the hell would I know?” She didn’t have time to ponder his words. Alina assumed it was a factious quip. It wasn’t. Demyan had never bedded a less than knowing woman and had never made love unsheathed.
Demyan could only admire her stoicism because he felt the tear and the brief jolt of shock run through her body at his invasion, then he did what he’d fought not to, he lost himself in the sensations as he inched further in. “You’ll get used to it soon.” “I don’t want to get used to it,”Alina whimpered, for could the feel of Demyan inside ever lose its wonder?
To be honest, I struggled along even when I thought I would give up a few times…..I had to know the conclusion to this love story!!!!
I was somewhat surprised…… I had to ask myself – is this book written by this author? I’ve read other books by her and none of them have been anything remotely like this one. But yes, I checked the cover and it’s definitely CM!!!
Despite me not liking this book, I decided to give it a 2 star rating because I enjoyed the whole Russian rituals that Demyan’s mother followed and the scene where he goes to visit her grave in Russia. From the prologue, you follow a multi -layered mystery of a Blondell OHenry, convicted, after the testimony given by her 8 year old son, 20 years earlier for the murder of her daughter, Amity and shooting and injuring her two small sons, is about to be freed after her son recants his testimony.
Nikki has a connection to the crime. Amity had been her best friend and had phoned her on the night she was murdered, telling her that she needed to tell her something very important. But Nikki was unable to meet up with her and has always felt that she may have been able to save her from dying. And then, there’s her uncle, who was Blondell’s lawyer at the time of her trial.
Nikki soon begins digging into the O’Henry family past and is soon stone-walled by everyone involved in the tragedy, which just makes Nikki more determined to find out what really happened that terrible night.
Some of the characters she encounters in her quest for the truth are uncouth and unhelpful and at times damn right scary and dangerous and some may even harm her from keeping the truth coming out. Willing to kill to keep secrets hidden.
Suspense, thrills, more killings, twists and turns that just kept me at the edge of my seat and asking….who did it?????
There are so many questions in this story and I have to be honest and say that I never ever guessed the answers that we get at the end.
There is some romance in the story – after all Nikki & Pierce are now an engaged couple but the main focus is in the mystery of case.

He will then inherit the family business instead of his father.
I so did not bond with the two mc’s. I thought Noelle very shallow and self-absorbed and Ethan cold and calculating.
I was kind of so-so in the first part of the book but half-way began to like it more.
As these two “lost” souls amble along in reaching their own “quests”, I began to feel a bit sad for them. Sins of the fathers – as that saying says, children suffer punishment related to the father/mother’s past sins, clearly shows in this story.
Happily for Noelle & Ethan, they discover that you cannot allow the past mistakes by your parents rule your lives.

Joss, an Australian billionaire alpha male has negotiated an arranged marriage to Leila, a woman from a small Arab country. He wants the oil fields that she inherited from her deceased father and she wants to escape the prison she has been living under her abusive stepfather.
Whilst she knows the reason for the marriage, he, however is unaware of her reasons to agreeing to it.
I adored Leila from the very beginning. A woman traumatized by past events in her life, struggling to overcome so many obstacles she’s faced with such strength and courage was truly remarkable.
Although I was not that crazy about Joss at the start, he really grew on me to such an extent that by the end I was totally smitten. The sensitivity and caring he showed in helping Leila face her demons was really amazing. At the same time, he also had to jump over his own “hurdles” in coming to terms with his past and understanding why he cut himself off loving anyone.
The story also touched on the sensitive subject of bulimia/anorexia in a much understated manner.
