I am not a fan of short stories but purchased this book solely for my ultimate all time favorite paranormal romance authors, JR WARD and SHERRILYN KENYON’s names on the cover. Of course I read their novellas first and struggled through the other two – not crazy about historical/futuristic books so I skimmed over quite a lot of pages, so it would be unfair for me to give a true review on those as I did not get totally into them.
The Story of Son by J.R Ward – my favorite Blurb: Claire Stroughton is a beautiful lawyer who would rather spend the night with a legal brief than the man of her dreams. Then a routine client meeting turns dangerous—and deeply sensual—when she is held captive by a gorgeous man with an unworldly hunger…
I loved the story of Claire, the workaholic, career-orientated lawyer , who does not need a man in her life to define who she is and not for her the marriage, children thing, though she has nothing against that but just not for her. Visiting one of her elderly clients who lives in a creepy Gothic mansion just outside Caldwell, NY (aha…BlackDaggerBrothehood I thought…but no, no link to those vampire males!!!), she is drugged and wakes up to find herself in a dark room with the most gorgeous male who tells her that his mother (her client, Mrs Leeds) has brought her to him so he can feed…yikes…a vampire!!! But hey, Claire is not your usual damsel in distress, believe me!!!!! She will spend 3 days with him and then she will be let go not remembering anything about the incident. Yet, as Claire learns about the cruelty and pain he has endured since he was 12 years old, when he was imprisoned by his wicked mother and her evil butler and discovering his tenderness, innocence and goodness and of course an unexplainable attraction she feels towards him, makes a decision that she will rescue Michael (the name she has given him as he reminds her of Archangel Michael) and get him away from the prison that has caused him such heartache and pain.
I was so touched by Michael…this kind, honorable, confused and tender person who never wants to hurt or cause pain to others despite the cruelty he has endured for the last 56 years …totally isolated from everything. He has never felt warmth and love until he meets Claire. A true virgin, romantic, tender hero who slowly learns that he is not the monster he has been led to believe. The sex scenes (they do it a lot of times!!!!!) are so poignant, tender, sweet and so so HOT HOT….I knew they were meant to be together..real soul mates and could understand Claire’s determination to rescue Michael so that they could be together for eternity…whatever obstacles lay ahead, she never gives up.
Wished that this could have been a full length novel. There was so much more that I wanted to know about their lives but I was so so happy to see how Michael and Claire found their happiness together in the end. Talk about pulling my heartstrings!!!!!! Romance
J.R Ward has created a vampire world, including the beyond popular BDB Series that is compelling, addictive, drawing you into this place of incredibly gorgeous, strong males and females like no other author has in the paranormal romance genre. Her writing is vivid, believable, so now!!!! Whilst this story is not part of that series, I could easily see Michael and Claire with the brothers. Who knows…maybe one day!!!! I think they would fit in very nicely.
There is one thing that really bothered me though…..JR Ward is amazing in creating the ultimate alpha-male…but I find her woman characters are a bit off-putting at times….I mean, Claire has felt like a “man in a woman’s body” when having sex with men until she meets Michael!!!!! What, because she’s career-orientated!!!!! The women in the BDB Series fare no better…they either doormats who stay in the shadows of their alpha-males or like Xhex, who is a warrior, is described as having a muscled body like a male with short, crew cut!!!!! Are there any in-between kinds of females who can be strong without thinking or looking like a man!!!! But this little gripe did not stop me from engaging with Claire.
I loved this touching and romantic story…a great plot, interesting and endearing characters.
Blurb: Shadow of the Moon by Sherrilyn Kenyon Angelia has fought her entire life to make herself strong. Now, with her patria under fire, she has to protect her people from Fury and his werewolf clan. Vowing to bring him to justice, Angelia sets out alone…until the hunter becomes the hunted, and the only way for her to survive is to trust the very wolf she’s sworn to kill.
I love Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark-Hunter series and have read most of most of the books. I was glad that I finally found Fury’s book….he’s part of the Kattalakis pack and I have always wanted to know more about him. I would have preferred to read a full length book on him but half way through the story I changed my mind. Why??? The beginning is really great. I liked meeting up again at Sanctuary with Dev, Vane (Fury’s brother? And his wife Bride and son………they are such an awesome couple… but after meeting Angelia, a human-wolf who hates wolf-humans even though she and Fury had been such close friends when they were younger. I hated her!!!!! How could she allow Fury to be tortured the way he was by members of her team???? I thought Fury was a great male/wolf….he experienced rejection, cruelty, pain not only from the Arcadians but he was despised and rejected by his own mother. I couldn’t believe how he could have gone through when he had been attacked and left for dead by Angelia, that he could still forgive her and protect her from danger!!!! A true loyal friend who has always loved her!!!!! She infuriated me even more as she blew hot and cold towards Fury….I hate you, I love you, I want you, I don’t want you!!!!!!! Make up your mind girl!!!!! Maybe if it had been a longer story and I discovered more things about her, I might have been more inclined to like and think her as being Fury’s true mate
Despite this moan, I did enjoy the story and if you are a fan of the series you should read it.
I am a great fan of Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunter Series and have loved and hated …well that’s a harsh word…so let me say …did not like….some of theI am a great fan of Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunter Series and have loved and hated …well that’s a harsh word…so let me say …did not like….some of the books I have read. Sins of the Night is definitely one of “the did not like it as much as the others” list. Not there were some things I did like about it but overall I was just not blown away by the story of Alexion (look the guy sounds pretty gorgeous…except that he’s some kind of shadow without a body…but lose that white coat….that really threw me….ugh…white coat…bad enough on a woman but on a man!!!!!) , Acheron’s (my most loved character in this series) right-hand man and protector, who is sent to earth to sort out the problem of the Mississippi Dark Hunters, where Stryker (Acheron’s evil arch enemy is stirring them up to revolt against Acheron, which could result in the end of the world!!! Alexion’s assignment is to determine which of the Dark Hunters are guilty or not and to be the jury and execute the betrayers…he’s the angel of death. He meets up with Dangereus St Richards (I personally hated her name!!!), the first female Dark Hunter in the series, who cannot make up her mind to join the rebels or stay with Acheron. She quickly stays on the RIGHT side ….since she’s now totally besotted…sorry..in love with the “right side” Alexion that is!!!! I just could not engage with this character….French Revolution, aristocratic….even French words thrown in didn’t make me think she was even a tiny bit French!!!!!!
There’s a lot of action, fighting with some Dark Hunters being killed….the betrayers I mentioned above are given no second chance!!!! We meet one of two new characters which I am sure will appear in future books, but none of them really stood out for me.
By my comments so far, one would imagine that I hated reading this story!!!! Well, no. Not hated exactly….there were a few things I loved…..and here they are:
-the interaction between Acheron, Alexion (oh forgot…he’s real name is Ias) and Simi….my most most loved demon of all the paranormal series and books……it’s witty, sweet and so lovable. -the scenes with Simi as the protector of the baby and Danger…fabulous…love the way she talks about Artemis…… -Acheron…..every word I read in all the books about him I love. He’s just the most amazing guy….so much feeling, depth, dark secrets…..i just wanted him to find his own true love (which I know he does because if you have read Acheron, then u will know that!!!!)
As I neared the last pages, I must admit I that Alexion and Danger had slowly grown on me and wished that this would be their HEA……shock…….yes they do but I hated the way it was made possible. A ghost, someone who was now bodiless……I wanted it to be a more happy ending…but hey they did find each other and live happily together for all eternity.
All in all it was a pleasant read, just one that didn’t grab me as much as some of the other books have done. ...more

Her Immortals after Dark Series is beyond amazing….the world of Lore inhabited by such different and varied characters that we have come to know from the previous books is so creatively written , they come alive and are so real and believable that has you engaging in their lives.
I am not crazy about ghost stories and at first had some doubts about this book. Well, after the first two chapters………I was in heaven!!!!!!!!!!
A turned vampire crazed warrior, with a lost mind and a ghost ballerina who has no body!!!! How will this work out, I wondered. Well, it does – and all because of the magic the author weaves into this so sweet and lovable story of Conrad Wroth and Neomi Laress…
I am not going to say much about the plot as parts of the storyline have been written in previous reviews – what was it about this book that made it such a fabulous and more than enjoyable read.
CHARACTERS - How Conrad, so dark and driven mad by what he had become and his struggle to overcome his inner demons and how someone like Neomi, filled with sadness and loneliness, longing to find a way to be able to be human again and how her sweet and lovely and caring attitude contributes so much to Conrad’s healing and coming back to what he was before he had become a vampire assassin and reconnecting with his brothers, who had long been lost to him.
Somehow, we begin to sympathize with this crazed villain that he was in the beginning and wanting the two to finding a way to be together.
Neomi is such a lovable and endearing character. Her mix of French and English is so cute and her whole personality was so enchanting. Loved the way she saw the goodness in Conrad’s heart. Felt her desolation and loneliness ….she just pulls at your heartstrings!!!!
The character development is absolutely so well written.
Bringing in characters from previous stories is an added bonus!!!! Having met the Valkyrian women, who I am fascinated by – who could not be….they are funny, independent, sexy, magical and unforgettable…you have a sense that you are part of this growing family of demons, werewolves….and waiting expectantly to know who will be next to join this more than amazing Lore family.
DIALOGUE – This is one of the things I so love about this series. So much clever wit, funny moments that just works for me…….I know that I will have a smile on my face, laughing my head off when reading anything by Kresley Cole. Here are some of my favorite scenes that really had me “shrieking”
Conrad & Neomi are playing twenty rounds of vingt-et-une and the loser has to answers questions about themselves…. Conrad – “You weren’t a virgin, were you?” Neomi – “Non, je suis Capricorne!”
Marieketa, the witch is using some magic to try and get Neomi a body….. N- “You’ve never attempted it?” M- “On a human? Not outsider a simulator.” After a hesitation, she admitted, “I did recently attempt it on my ghost cat.” N- “And” M- And, did you ever see Pet Sematary?” Neomi shook her head. M- “No? Well, my Tigger came back wrong”, she cried biting her knuckle.
Marieketa & Neomi are having a girl’s chat over the fone - tells Neomi she can’t come over and visit because………. “We’re hazing new witches at the coven house today. The innocent lambs are vying for my old room.” She plopped into a cushy chair. “We’ll have to teleconference via mirror”.
Marieketa is trying to help Conrad to bringing Neomi back to LIFE………. M- “Oh snap! Live and learn eh? Okay, one vampire’s Bride brought back from the grave.” She slapped her gloved hands and rubbed them together. “Let’s put the fun back in funeral!”
THE PLOT – clever, intriguing, different, believable with some surprising twists.
SEX SCENES – Tension builds up between Conrad & Neomi’s not being able to touch each other…don’t forget, she’s a ghost….but when it eventually happens…wow….stars explode, fire burns….sensuality at its highest….remember…Neomi is well-versed in the art of love and how lovely it was when she shows Conrad the “ropes” – he’s one hell of a lovable virgin!!!! Eroticism abounds between the pages!!!!!
So, finally do these two lovable and enchanting duo get their well-deserved HEA?? Of course they did!!! After all, love always WINS in the end!!!!!

I wasn’t sure what to expect of this book when I started reading it. I picked it up because it was one of Sherrilyn Kenyon’s books I had not read andI wasn’t sure what to expect of this book when I started reading it. I picked it up because it was one of Sherrilyn Kenyon’s books I had not read and also that it featured Nick Gautier one of my favorite characters in the Dark Hunter Series and did not realized it dealt with Nick’s life as a teenager before he met any Dark Hunters.
I liked finding out about his past, the close relationship he has with his stripper mother, the difficulties in trying to fit in at school, his courage and the moral code he lives by where he recognizes the difference between right and wrong, good and evil. He’s a really great character…streetwise, sarcastic and great sense of humor… He soon discovers that there is a world out there that is dangerous and filled with bad things. His life is filled with new friends – that he tries hiding from his mother…being grounded by her will not be a good option.
I loved seeing all those characters I have read in the Dark Hunter Series – Acheron (my most favorite of all the DH), Simi, Ash’s little demon who never goes anywhere without her BBQ sauce, Kyrian (Nick’s new boss!!), Tabitha….now I know how they met and how Nick comes into the DH books. There’s lots of action, violence and I am sure that male y/a will have a blast reading this series….there’s no romance in this story…okay Nick does have a crush on some girl….but it’s really all about his teen life…
The amount of characters we meet in the book will probably confuse some new readers but I am sure that the continuing books in this series will have more information on them. I enjoyed reading it and am looking forward to the next book.
Book Overview by Barnes and Noble: At fourteen, Nick Gautier thinks he knows everything about the world around him. Streetwise, tough and savvy, his quick sarcasm is the stuff of legends. . .until the night when his best friends try to kill him. Saved by a mysterious warrior who has more fighting skills than Chuck Norris, Nick is sucked into the realm of the Dark-Hunters: immortal vampire slayers who risk everything to save humanity. Nick quickly learns that the human world is only a veil for a much larger and more dangerous one: a world where the captain of the football team is a werewolf and the girl he has a crush on goes out at night to stake the undead. But before he can even learn the rules of this new world, his fellow students are turning into flesh eating zombies. And he’s next on the menu. As if starting high school isn't hard enough. . .now Nick has to hide his new friends from his mom, his chainsaw from the principal, and keep the zombies and the demon Simi from eating his brains, all without getting grounded or suspended. How in the world is he supposed to do that? ...more
I am a fan Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Series since reading Acheron (I wasn’t aware it was part of a series), which I loved so much. Since my discovery, I am a fan Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Series since reading Acheron (I wasn’t aware it was part of a series), which I loved so much. Since my discovery, I have read, in order, most of the books but I have to be honest and say that some of the later books have been a bit of a disappointment.
No Mercy (book #15) was one of those I just could not get into. I have loved the Peltier bear family since meeting them in previous books and I was looking forward to Deveraux’s story and though I liked some parts, it felt as if this book had just been put together quickly, leaving me with a puzzled and baffled….now I should tell you why.
My thoughts –
*Best scene for me: the contest between Samia & Aiello, the keeper of the Girdle, which Samia needs to stay alive. Wow, talk about fabuloulishy Amazon women!!!!!
*Dialogue –Witty and Funny. I found myself laughing so many times at the comments Dev and the other characters make………..totally hysterical.
*Writing style – is this written by the same person who wrote Acheron? I really struggled finishing this book
*Book was so short and all the blank pages in between – had the feeling that it may have been done just to add more pages to the book.
*I would have loved to have a bit more of Acheron & Tori & Simi (my absolute favorite demon)
*I felt that there was a bit of sexual tension lacking between Samia & Dev….the sex scenes just lacking “zing”>…
Not exactly a bad book, it’s not one of my favorites in the series. ...more
I had started reading Kiss of the Night when I realized that this was book 4 of the series so I put it aside and started on book 3 of the Dark HunterI had started reading Kiss of the Night when I realized that this was book 4 of the series so I put it aside and started on book 3 of the Dark Hunter series. Wow…I loved Dance with the Devil…caught me from the first page….I found it difficult to put it down to do other things….
The story is about Zarek,, the illegitimate son of a Roman general, was sold into slavery to continue the cruel and abusive life he had endured since birth by his brothers and parents. After being executed for a crime he did not commit , he was turned into a dark hunter and had been banished by Artemis (the Greek goddess from hell!!) to Alaska for thousands of years for crimes he supposedly had committed. Such a hard, cruel, sad and solitary life he has led, rejected by everyone ….how could this not drive a person mad….but …. Underneath that cruel, scary and soulless façade, which scares even the immortals, lies a gentle, pure and compassionate and kind person..his favorite book is The Little Prince…. He reminded me of Zsadist from the Black Dagger Brotherhood book by JR Ward. Both gorgeous, psychologically scarred, captive slaves who had hideous human lives and now find themselves living a new immortal life just as sad and lonely as before. Artemis has decided to kill Zarek off but Acheron…(Oh I love this guy…he is the ultimate cool immortal!!) steps in and it’s agreed to send Astrid, one of Artemis cousins, to judge whether he should live or die!!!! Naturally there is always an ulterior motive with anything Artemis does…what a wicked WITCH…I really hate her…I wish Acheron would let Simi eat her!!!!
Anyway Astrid and Zarek meet in a cold and blinding storm somewhere in Alaska…and we know that these two will get together despite all the obstacles in their way. She is the first person to show him kindness, love and acceptance. She touches his heart and feelings he thought he had lost forever. What else could they do but fall in love. Zarek has a great sense of humor…believe it or not!!! And gorgeous to boot!!!!! He’s a hero. And a poet at that!!!! I loved Astrid….what a beautiful soul….the ending….on the beach, happy together.
Sasha….the Katagari were-hunter posing as a wolf pet of Astrid, is really funny…he wants to bite Zarek and is not prepared to let him wear his favorite designer shirt…..I laughed out when reading the part where Zarek snaps back at Sasha… the dialogue is brilliant… “And you, Kibbles,” he snarled at the wolf, “had better lay off me. One more growl and I swear I’m going to geld you with a spoon”.
And we meet Simi, Acheron’s adopted daughter, is a cute and funny demon his mother sent to protect him …check this dialogue…. “Fine.” Ash looked down his right arm at the she-dragon tattoo that ran from his shoulder to his wrist. “Simi,” he commanded. “Take human form.” The dragon lifted itself from his skin, shifted its shape into that of a young demonic woman, no taller than three feet. She hovered effortlessly to his right. In this incarnation, her wings were dark blue and black, even though she usually preferred burgundy for them. The darker color of the wings combined with the color of her eyes told him just how unhappy Simi was to find herself here on Olympus. Her eyes were white, rimmed in red and her long yellow-blond hair floated around her. She had black horns that were more beautiful than sinister and long pointed ears. Her flowing red dress wrapped around her lithe, muscular body that she could mold into any size from one inch to eight feet tall in human form or as large as eighty feet as a dragon. “What’cha want, akri?” Simi asked Ash. “Kill Thanatos.” Simi flashed her fangs as she rubbed her hands together gleefully and cast an evil smirk at Artemis. “Oh goodie! I get to make the red-headed goddess mad!” “He won’t last long, akri,” Simi said to Ash, using the Atlantean term for lord and master. Her voice was quiet, but powerful and filled with a sing-sing quality that was quite musical in tone. “Thanatos is barbecue.” She smiled at Artemis. “And I like my barbecue. Just tell me how you want him, akri, normal recipe or extra crispy. I’m partial to extra crispy myself. They crunch louder when deep fried. Reminds me I need some bread crumbs.” Simi paused and lifted her head up from her list to snort at Artemis. “The Simi is very environmentally sound. Eat everything except for hooves. I don’t like those, they hurt my teeth.” She looked at Ash. “Thanatos don’t have hooves, do he?”
Some more great dialogue that I loved- "I understand all right. I understand the bitch-goddess needs the Simi to barbecue her until she learns to be nice to people. I think she'd be rather attractive on fire. I could make her look like that old sea hag or something." Simi “It is only with the heart that one can rightly see. What is essential is invisible to the eye.” Acheron “Hopeless implies that at one time there was hope. And that’s another word I don’t understand. Hope only exists for people who have choices.” Zarek “I don't suffer from my insanity -- I enjoy every minute of it.” Sasha “I have found my star. She is beauty and grace. Elegance and goodness. My laughter in winter. She is courageous and strong. Bold and tempting. Unlike any other in all the universe, and I cannot touch her. I dare not even try." [Zarek]”
This is a great story….I am definitely going to read it again. Now going back to finish Kiss of the Night...more

I decided to read this book again, before getting started on Styxx.
It’s amazing that, no matter how many times I read this book, it continues to consume all my senses…..pulled at my emotions all over again. I don’t remember when last I was so I absorbed into a world and characters that became so real to me. Acheron, a character that has stayed with me for a very long time.
Acheron’s life was an embodiment of tragedy and sadness and also of courage and happiness. I cried, I raged as I experienced his parents rejection, the cruelty, the torture and the abuse – physical, emotional and sexual - he endured by evil family and foes alike, the manner in which people exploited him with no regard to his being- like Artemis and Apollo. I felt his fear, his grief, and his pain, his joy.
I struggled with the first part of the book, primarily because it was such a dark part of Acheron’s life.. I had some moments.. But the 2nd part is what made it so special for me. It was like I suddenly saw light after being in this tunnel of darkness with Acheron.
There were so many memorable characters in this story that I either hated or loved with total passion. Acheron, beautiful, broken, lonely, lost....
Ryssa, Acheron’s sister who loved him and protected him where she could. And how she was used the same way like him by her father, who married her off to Apollo, who clearly had no feelings for her. And the final tragedy in her life and how much heartache it caused Acheron was so damn sad.
Styxx, Acheron’s twin brother, who had turned away from him and had become the favored son at Acheron’s expense. Artemis …….have I ever hated a character so much as hers?? Her cruelty towards Archeron... I just love to hate her!!! Okay, I did feel a “tad” sorry for her… she lost the man that she realized too late, was the only man she loved… what, the “heifer” actually shed a tear or two…to no avail, I might add. Savitar, his dialogue is witty, funny...i had so many laughs with this very mysterious character..who is he really? A surfer god??? Tory, Acheron’s true love. What a fabulous character. I just fell in love with her from the first moment she gets up on stage to deliver her speech on the finding of Atlantis. And the scene where she finds Acheron, working as a builder at a construction place is an absolute HOOT!!!!
And Simi……she has found a place in my heart. I adore her. Unforgettable, quirky, dangerous, sweet, enduring, cute and love her style Acheron is her Akri. The dialogue and interaction between the two is spectacular.
I adored the modern Greece parts in this story, so vividly described that made me feel that I was right there, on a Greek beach looking for Atlantis as well.
I loved the connection and chemistry between Tory and Acheron. The interaction between them is so lovely....Having to go through some trials and tribulations and finally finding happiness together was more than satisfying for me……and I loved the connection between Acheron and Tory as a young boy, her grandfather had been rescued from war-ravaged Greece by Acheron and taken to America, where he was told stories about the lost city of Atlantis. Tory had been told those stories by her grandfather and it was the reason that she wanted to find Atlantis …it was destined that Acheron and Tory were meant to be together. Pre-ordained.
So, arrived at the last page and still as unforgettable as before.
OF COURSE HE IS!!
And now it’s time for me to meet up with Styxx and Acheron again!!!
I am so looking forward to that!!!
1st Review 2011 MY FAVOURITE OF ALL SHERRILYN KENYON'S BOOKS EVER!!!! I KEEP READING IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN....ACHERON IS THE MOST AMAZING HERO.........OOPS...SHOULD THAT BE GREEK GOD!!!!!
