Since then I have waited anxiously for the release of each book and to date have read them so many times to remember the exact number.
The Face of Deception by Iris Johansen is one of those books that keeps you permanently on the edge of your seat and you can’t stop turning the pages to know what will happen next.
Eve cannot get past the grief she feels over the loss of Bonnie and to help her deal with it, decides that she will help parents in similar situations, bring their children’s bodies back to them. This she does by become a top forensic sculptor.
She works closely with Joe Quinn, the ex FBI agent who helped with the search for Bonnie and who now works for the Atlanta Police. They have developed a very close relationship and we see the development from friendship to something more as the story progresses.
Enter John Logan, billionaire and a man with many secrets, who wants to hire Eve to reconstruct a face from a skull in his possession and he needs this to be done in utmost secrecy. What she does not realize is the danger and horrors she and the people close to her will be faced with.
Shades of treachery, political intrigue, secrets, betrayal and so much more. It’s a very intriguing plot which keeps you guessing all the time.
There are some very interesting characters – the story moves at an incredibly fast pace, never giving you time to breath.
Eve is such an admirable woman. Despite her heartbreak of losing her child, her terrible childhood, she has remained strong and focused. Joe Quinn has a dark past but you can feel the love he has for Eve and how he always put her first in his life. John Logan..wow..this is same hot guy. Rich, handsome, interesting and with an emotional pull for Eve.
The ending is awesome and in fact for me, quite unexpected. It’s a great book and a more than good book to start this incredible series.
This book is on my all time favorite bookshelf!!!!!

This time forensic sculptor Eve Duncan finds herself matched against a killer who will challenge her skill, test her courage, and threaten her family.
As a forensic sculptor, Eve Duncan deals in death every day of her life. It’s her job. And while it might seem macabre to some, Eve knows from personal experience that her work, giving a face and a name to the victims of violent death, helps bring closure to their families. Now that job is about to put not only her own life on the line...but the lives of everyone close to her.
It begins with a call from a high-ranking government official. He wants Eve to drop everything and come to Baton Rouge to identify the remains of an unknown murder victim. At first, Eve wants nothing to do with the project. She has finally found peace from her own tragic past, living a quiet life in a small lakeside cottage with Atlanta detective Joe Quinn and her adopted daughter, Jane. But a stunning series of seemingly unrelated events is about to upset all that.
Suddenly, Eve’s hard-won new world is turned upside down, and she flees to Baton Rouge to take on the project of identifying the skeleton. Forced to work in secrecy, given only the sketchiest of information, Eve can’t help but wonder if the high-level security that surrounds her is meant to protect her–or imprison her.
She hasn’t even begun work on the reconstruction when the first death occurs. Someone totally ruthless, someone who can strike anywhere at any time, and with seeming immunity, is determined to put a halt to her work. Soon the questions–and the threats to her own life–begin to mount as Eve realizes she has stumbled into the heart of a chilling conspiracy.
There is only one person who can give her the answers she needs. And that is the dead man himself. To survive, Eve must put her life on the line to uncover the deadly secret of his identity and learn the devastating truth buried beneath a body of lies.
My review Having obtained the last three books in Iris Johansen’s Even Duncan Series, I decided to read all the prior books (for about the third or fourth time – yes, I guess it means I just love this series..a lot!!). I never get tired of reading about Eve and Quinn (who I so absolutely adore) and Body of Lies is still as exciting as the first time I read it. You are kept on the edge of your seat from the first to the last page. Excellent and complex plot, moving at a terrifying pace filled with suspense, action, unexpected twists that will keep you turning the pages late into the night.
The more I get to know Quinn and Jane, the more I love them. Jane is like this amazing 12 year old kid going on 30 and totally adorable. And Galen…wow what an amazing guy….i would love to read his book one day!!!!
There’s so much emotion between Quinn and Eve in this book and at times I really wanted to hit her for being so hard and unbending towards Quinn and other times I could understand her feeling of betrayal and being lied to even though it was done for what Quinn believed had been the right thing. All he wants is to love and protect her and take away her pain and heartache. It’s going to be a very very long journey for them both.
The setting of the bayous was fabulous…the dark and terrifying water and sounds fitted so well into the story. A great addition to this series, which I hope never ends!!!! ...more

Synops The Ugly Duckling is a story of how a woman survives after being betrayed and then goes on a road to revenge the killing of her little daughter.
Synopsis: If fate suddenly made you more beautiful that you ever dreamed possible, would it be the beginning of a fairy tale, or your worst nightmare? The brutal attack should have killed anybody, but Nell Calder did more than survive. She emerged a woman transformed, with an exquisite beauty found only in fairy tales. Nell Calder deserved a happy ending. Instead, her descent into terror has just begun. Her attacker is still on the hunt, determined to finish what he's started. And Nell, protected by a new face, is just as determined to fight back and take her revenge. But to catch her prey, she will have to expose herself—even if it makes her a killer's prime target.
Nell Calder is a plain, ordinary woman, whose life is shattered when her husband and small daughter are murdered. She survives the attack but requires a facial reconstruction due to her terrible injuries.
Now with a new beautiful face, she transforms herself from the submissive wife she had been to a strong and determined new person bent on bringing down the people who had so cruelly and brutally murdered her daughter.
Nicholas Tanek, who she first met on the fateful night of the murders, is determined to help her in getting better and stronger. He’s a sensual and good-looking alpha-male, with a secret past and a gentle heart inside which he tries to hide from the world. I liked this guy a lot. Mysterious
I liked the two of them together and throughout the story I wanted them to find each other and be happy together…after each having such a sad and unhappy live before. There was a really nice touch with one of the secondary characters that Nell meets at a training camp…Peter Drake. Heartbreaking but uplifting in the end.
This author’s writing style is really great…fast paced plot and good character development.
This is a fantastic romance filled with suspense, sensuality, thrills and twists and turns. The story pulled me in and just kept turning the pages, wanting to find out ..what next!!!
And the ending…loved it …..it surprise me in a very happy way!!!!!!! ...more

The killer wanted to end hers. The first warning was triggered hundreds of miles away. The second warning exploded only yards from where she and her son stood. And the gifted scientist is awakening to a nightmare world where a ruthless killer is stalking her...where her innocent son is considered expendable...and where the medical research to which she has devoted her life is the same research that could get her killed. Her only hope of protecting her family and making that medical breakthrough is to elude her enemy until she can face him on her own ground, on her own terms—and destroy him.
I love Iris Johansen’s books but Long After Midnight is not on my most favorite list but it’s still not a bad book at all.
The actual plot was okay – a bit of intrigue, corruption, action….but just when I thought something big was going to happen….bam…not so. Lacked a bit of spark and sparkle I thought.
The characters were likeable enough….Noah was really cute and would have liked to have him along for the ride a bit longer….Kate did get on my nerves at times…geez..we know you’re smart, gorgeous and totally independent…but hey give a guy a break!!!!! I did like her son Joshua….the interaction between him and Seth…ooh Seth….is so endearing…going on maneuvers!!!!
Now, Seth…he’s the one I really loved in this story and that’s my only reason for the 4 star rating……..dark, mysterious, funny, strong alpha-male, tender, caring…oh I could go on and on………..he has such a sense of who he is and what he wants…and goes about it in such a likeable manner. Loved the scenes with him and Kate in bed…..the dialogue is fabulous…this is a great hero!!!!!
Of course, the bad guys…and I mean bad bad….Ishmaru..this is some scary and evil killer…mafia, corrupt politicians…..no chance for them….the good guys win here.
So, if you like suspense with a bit of romance – well nothing happens in this department until page 307…but worth the wait…Seth is something hot and sexy and Kate cannot resist him..then get reading... ...more

I have journeyed with Even Duncan on her quest to finding out about her daughter’s disappearance when she was five years old. I have become attached to many of the characters that I have met throughout the books and in Chasing the Night, we are introduced to the new and fascinating character of Catherine Ling. Born in Hong Kong, living in the streets by her wits, she’s recruited as an CIA when very young.
Catherine‘s 2 year old son had been stolen from her 7 years previously but she believes that he’s still alive. She approaches Eve asking for her help in construction what he would look now. Eve agrees to help her and soon both, with the help of a young girl, a genius who can read patterns and other things that will help them find Luke.
To see Eve still trying to find Bonnie is so heartbreaking. She really needs the answers so she can find some peace in her life.
Adrenaline-pumping thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
I am so addicted to this series that I wait in great anticipation for the next one. ...more
Book Info: For eight years, single mother Grace Archer has been living a picture-perfect life raising her daughter on a horse farm in the small town oBook Info: For eight years, single mother Grace Archer has been living a picture-perfect life raising her daughter on a horse farm in the small town of Tallanville, Alabama. Watching Frankie grow into a talented and confident young girl has made Grace as happy as any mother could hope to be. Happy enough, even, to forget the past. But the past never quite goes away. Which is why a certain charismatic man also moved to Tallanville eight years ago to watch over her. But when violence threatens to shatter Grace and Frankie's idyllic home, the waiting is over. The ghosts of the past have returned. And they're hungry for blood. Now Grace must resume an identity she thought she had cast off forever, and match wits with an opponent as deadly as he is cunning. The prize: an extraordinary secret that only she can unfold. The forfeit: losing the thing more precious to her than life itself.
MY THOUGHTS This was not the best Iris Johansen book I have read but it’s not exactly the worst one either. Action-packed, fast paced thriller from the first to the last page. Spies, ruthless killers, a touch of paranormal, second chances in love, betrayals and loyalties.
Whilst there are some really likeable and engaging characters, I somehow felt I did not get to know them really well….Grace is this strong, protective woman who had been a CIA agent and when she became pregnant with one of her trainers, Jake, had to disappear because Marvot, the notorious owner of the most incredible Arabian horses known as the Pair, needs her to work with them to find a very valuable item in the Sahara desert, which men and woman will kill for.
Her daughter Frankie is very lovable but at times I wondered how an eight-year old could be so adult and mature….although she is a child prodigy.
Jake…so much I wanted to find out who he was exactly. How did he get here? Who is he? Not much back-story…his life kind of begins when he’s working for the CIA and training Grace.
The plot was actually interesting….some may feel a bit far-fetched but it is written in such a way that you feel it could be possible for it to happen. The settings were great…from a farm in Alabama, to Wyoming and then Morocco and finally the oasis and dunes in the Sahara Desert.
This is an enjoyable page-turner story with lots of action, romance, love, and amazing horses and holds you to your seat. ...more
