While it did give me an extra push and motivation, which is always needed, it was a bit too "beginner" for me. I was relieved to know that I am not as much of a slob as I thought of myself as being. The very main point of her book is to just start by doing the dishes. And then get in the habit of doing the dishes every single day and then moving on to other tasks. I already do the dishes daily...phew! However, I recognize there are people out there who may really need this book to begin the process of gaining control over their house. I have not yet conquered this...but I need more help in other areas like de-cluttering, which White does touch on and made some very good points for me.
If you already have pretty good control over your home...skip this book and get something more specific. If you are searching for motivation to start cleaning and organizing your home...this might be just the starting push you need. ...more

The first half of the book had my attention but it started to really drag a bit and I had a hard time finishing the last couple of chapters. Parts of the book affected me profoundly and made me ill...such horror that occurred. It astounds me, the evil that mankind is capable of. The life a whole group of people were subject to...tortured, raped, beaten, worked to death...it just makes me so sad.
I don't think the author gives the premise of the story enough attention. "What if the underground railroad was actually a real railroad...underground.?" I don't think he developed or used that enough...that is why people are picking up the book...but it wasn't well done in my opinion.
The author lacks skill in suspense. Events in the book that should have really been lead up to and suspenseful just happened...kind of out of nowhere, without warning...which just lead me to say..."well ok...I wish I could have anticipated that more." If that makes sense.
Read Emily May's review because she states my feelings about this book perfectly. I know others will love this book...so don't let my review stop you:)...more

**Spoiler Alert** Everyone knows what this book is about by now, with the movie coming out an all, so it is shouldn't be a spoiler to say I was hoping for a different ending. I was yearning for a turn around right along with Louisa. I desperately wanted her love to be enough. I wanted Will to have a change of heart...the idealist in me thinks he could have if he would have given himself more time. My heart could feel the loss that Louisa felt. The desperation, the void. I am convinced the hardest thing to endure in life is to be the one left behind.
I will continue on with the sequel to see how Louisa copes with being the one left behind. From the preview it doesn't seem to be going well...understandably....more

I was so happy that an adult novel finally had an adult male that resisted temptation and took the high road! This is another book that made my heart bleed for the lost kids in the system...without parents to truly love them, those who are taken advantage of and used. I wish I could gather them all up and keep them safe and healthy.
This isn't a thorough review just a few of my feelings...but if you want a quick read that will keep you turning pages then I recommend this book!
**Notes** These are a couple things that bugged me...
Over use of the word "obese"...used to describe a person, a backpack, and the clouds...um that doesn't work for me.
Over use of the word "pique"
Describing the color of someone's hair as "snot" or "Mucous"....unless you are a witch, zombie, or alien...then no. gross.
The author gave us so much detail about Zoe that I feel like there should have been more to her story...like why was she cold all of the time? Why did she fall asleep and then act all weird about it when her mom woke her up, what was in her yellow notebook? ...more
