Though I love the premise of this book and the interaction between the two MCs is VERY hot, I was a little disappointed because next to the other two previous books this one was simply not as great as them. I know that's probably a little unfair to say but I still enjoyed it regardless. :) ...more

I just KNEW that it would end in heartbreak and I would forever curse the cruelty of high school. I was so utterly and absolutely one hundred percent Wrong.
John Goode manages to convey in a short piece what most authors fail to do in a full length novel. The voice, characterization, and plot immersed me in the world of Foster High and had me on the emotional roller coaster of Kyle's journey from start to finish. What else can I say? Mr. Goode, you made me cry, you made me laugh, you made me dance around my house in sheer joy rooting for Kyle and Brad's relationship.
I could gush so much more but I think I'll leave it at that. Anyone who has ever felt the first pangs of love will take this in and have it resonate as a voice of true experience. Thank you for the ride. ...more

I was in awe of her attention to both the detailed emotional experience of a sub learning the nuances of his new Master and her ability to weave both the incredibly intense experience of submission with love. So often when reading a book about BDSM, authors tend to oversimplify the Dom and downplay or sidestep the sub's need for control. I am happy to say that it is not so with Master Class. The only reason it gets a 4 instead of a 5 is because I wanted more! I would recommend this book if you're looking for an incredibly intense emotional experience and a dive into the world of bondage and submission. Excellent work. ...more

Brad has just announced to tThis is book number two in the Foster High series and I have to say that this work took me on a emotional roller coaster. Brad has just announced to the entire school that he likes boys, just started a relationship with Kyle, and just realized that life as he knows it is over.
A complete meltdown would be the only way I really have to explain Brad's disjointed, panicked, and sometimes irrational thoughts. He bounces between the feeling of freedom on one hand and the feeling of "oh god what the hell did i just do" on the other. It was like the morning after from hell. As much as the jumps from present, to past, to internal contemplation, back to present felt like I was stuck on the loop section of a thrill ride, I have to say that it rang true for me as a reader. No one makes a life altering decision, announces it, and then continues on their merry way like nothing happened. Happily Ever after takes a little more work than that.
In contrast to the first book, we get to see all of Brad's flaws in a big way. From Kyle's perspective, he's almost perfect. Even when Brad messes up, I felt like Kyle operated under the idea that Brad would fix it because he was an essentially good character who had his stuff together. In The End of the Beginning, we realize Brad is a teenage boy and nothing in his life is all figured out. I truly enjoyed the introduction of Mr. Parker. I think Brad needed a older gay man's perspective to show him that life really wasn't over, just the illusions he'd built around it were. So, well done.
I finished this and wanted more. Normally, I would complain about the length of the book but I don't think I could've trudged through much more of Brad's emotional angst without needing a much stronger cocktail. While that makes for excellent writing, the urge to mother the kid was almost overwhelming. It's impossible not to become emotionally involved with the characters John Goode writes and I am no exception to this rule.
If you enjoy tales of emotional realization, honest self evaluations, and a struggle to find the courage to seek happiness, this is the book for you. Don't miss out on any of the tales of Foster High. Mr. Goode, thanks for another excellent chapter in the series. ...more

I usually do not read particularly dark tales but I was intrigued and decided to give it a whirl. To say I was impressed is a vast and completely shallow understatement. I did not read this book. I devoured it.
It wasn't a love story per say and it wasn't a romance. I don't know really what the heck it was but whatever it was I am in awe of the writing talent behind it. It was extremely well written, the editing was superb, and I was left hanging in a way guaranteed to make me buy book two. I can't find a signal thing that I would've changed or could have been done differently. It's a must buy. Seriously. ...more

I am completely in love with the series and will be buying the next one just as soon as tomorrow rolls around. I love the dynamic and the characterizations of Aleksandr's characters. The writing was a 5, the characters were a 5, and the series itself is absolutely a 5. So why did I give it a 4?
Well, to be honest the first section of the book confused me a little. While it was definitely hot, kinky, and yummy I don't quite understand why it played a part in roughly half the novel. I swear, that's not a complaint, I enjoyed that part. I just expected it to be maybe a third of the book but it played over roughly half and I didn't care as much about Silvio and Gianbattista as I do about Silvio and Stefano. I just wanted more interaction between Silvio and Stefano. I am a sick romantic puppy who wants more of them and less of everything else. So, for personal preferences' sake, I will say 4. But honestly, if you don't read it, you're missing out on some fantastic writing. ...more

Though I wanted more interaction between Silvio and his boss, the introduction of Silvio's brother was a interesting addition and I have to say that I was distracted enough that I wasn't too disappointed that Silvio and Stefano didn't get more time on the pages together. Franco was adorable (I know this adjective will create issues with some people but I just love a killer with a soft underbelly. :P) and I was disturbingly interested in Franco and Silvio's very unconventional relationship. This story is not for the faint of heart but it's so worth the potential cardiac arrest. ...more

I really enjoyed the premise of this story. I like historicals so I was really looking forward to it. I enjoyed the interactions between the two MCs and thought it was really very sweet. The only thing that I didn't enjoy about the book was that it seemed too convenient of a ending. Everything falls into place in just such a way as too seem a bit too contrived for my tastes. However, it did keep me hooked and rooting for the MCs so it was an effective delivery. ...more

Aleksandr Voinov is just one of those authors that is able to sweep a reader away into the past without sounding either forced or cliched.
