Samantha had always been a nobody at school, she hung out with the outcasts, she was the middle child in her family, and she felt she was no where near as pretty as her older sister, Lucy. But one day after skipping her art class she winds up on the street near a man trying to assassinate the President of the United States! Samantha sees the man holding the gun attempting to shoot at the president and she jumps on his back stopping him and breaking her arm, while becoming a national hero. With her new fame Samantha falls in love with the presidents son David and also becomes the American Teen Ambassador to the United Nations. Can she balance her new found love for David and her duties to her fans, friends, and family, and country? I think the authors message in this book was that you should always follow your heart and instinct and everything will work out well. Also she states very clearly that you should never try to be anyone but your self because your true friends should like you for who you are, not what you aren’t. I would suggest reading this book to any girl looking for a fantastic read. This was one of the best books I have read in a while and was a real page turner. (less)

Through the years Koly finds ways to ignore the harsh comments from her Sass about how she is good for nothing, and a disgrace to her family, she always had had someone to talk about her problems to like her sister-in-law and her Sassur. But when her Sasusr dies and her sister-in-law marries and moves away, her Sass brings her to a city and abandons her there. In the city she had to find a job and a place to live and meets a handsome young boy named Raji and they later fall in love and get married. I think that the authors message in this story is that you can not be assigned true love and that everything happens for a reason. The author also educated readers on how arranged marriages take place and what they are like. I would recommend this book to anyone in need of a really good short read. (less)

This caused her parents become depressed and sad to live in the city because of the effect the bomb had on their life so they moved across the country to a suburban neighborhood. Jane had stood out so much in the suburbs, for in New York no one was as judgmental about looks and artistic freedom, so when Jane comes to school with short black dyed hair and black dress with white go-go-boots, she stuck out like a sore thumb. Everyone thought that she looked really cool, especially the popular kids, so they asked to be friends with her. However at Jane’s old school she was mixed in with the popular crowd and just wanted real friends that were going to treat not only her, but others nicely too. So right off the bat Jane had gotten a bad reputation for sitting with the “losers”. When Jane had sat with these kids she found out that by coincidence these girls all had the name Jane too. Although the Jane’s didn’t accept her at first, Jane had come up with a genius plan to get them all to like her and this involved a club called P.L.A.I.N, which stood for people loving art in their neighborhoods. So Jane came up with a plan to make a dirty, ruined, empty, lot into a piece of art, and with the help of her new friends she did so. They began to accept her. They had started a movement. So from then on they had went out late at night to create art in their neighborhood, but not every one enjoyed it. The police had called it vandalism, and were hunting down the so called“vandelists”. The police had also created a curfew for all teenagers, and if anyone did things that P.L.A.I.N. had sent notices out about, for example one of their notices was that at 12:00pm everyone get up wherever they are and sing, and whoever did so would be interrogated for knowing anything about P.L.A.I.N. and would have to serve community service. Although the girls were scared that hey would be caught by the police they continued with their artwork and made a change in their community and with their classmates. Who knew such plain girls could make such an un-plain difference? I think that the authors message is that you shouldn’t be scared to be who you want to be, and that you should be proud of who you are, and of your interests. If you try to be anyone else but you, you will never get to live life to the fullest.(less)

Most teenagers had all looked forward to prom all their lives. Prom to them meant that they could all be equal on the social status and have fun together. It was one night that they all had an excuse to get dressed up, do their hair nice, get limos, dates, and have the time of their lives. But Ashley was different. She despised prom, but how would she get stuck planning it? It all started with the math teacher at Carceras High School. She was the head of the prom committee. The prom committee had been planning the prom all year long. They had raised thousands of dollars to book a venue, a caterer, and decorations. The prom was almost two months away when the math teacher got arrested. She had stollen almost all the prom money. Everyone was put on edge because of it. There was no way they could have a prom if they had only a thousand dollars. The only way to make it happen was if more people came together to plan prom. One of Ashley’s best friends was on the prom committee, Natalie (who ended up taking over the prom after the math teacher got arrested), and she got Ashley to help, until Natalie fell down stairs in her prom heels and ended up in a wheelchair. Because of this injury Ashley took the lead in planning the prom for her best friend. This made Ashley begin to appreciate prom. Prom went off with a couple of hitches but ended up truly being a night to remember. I think the authors message is that no matter if you hate something or not you would do anything for friends. Friends are like family and they support you no matter what, so when you get a chance you should help them so you can show them how much you care for them and appreciate them. I thought that this book was a little confusing at times, and the layout was different, but I really enjoyed reading it and it was an uplifting story that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I would suggest this book to girls only if they are looking for a funny page turner and a good read. (less)

In the book Nancy Springer rates An Enola Holmes Mystery: Case of the Missing Marquess is a mystery book for a younger reading level. This book is a book about a fourteen-year-old girl who is different from many people in the late nineteenth century England. Enola Holmes is the younger sister of her much older brothers, the famous Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes. Enola calls for a small family reunion when her mother goes missing on her birthday, leaving behind very little clues. She left Enola a drawing kit, a book about the meaning of flowers, and a cipher book, along with hundreds of dollars. When her brother Sherlock returns to England she gets stuck at home with her brother Mycroft who wants to send her to prep school. Not wanting the life her brother envisions she goes to find her mother herself. She sets off on foot, disguised as a widow to England. It is in England where she ends up in the middle of a kidnapping for a spoiled young marquess. Through the violence, and being captured as well Enola uses her detective heritage to help the young marquess and to find her mother, however, cannot find her mother in this book. My opinion on this book is that it was too young for my age and reading level, and I would not suggest it to other girls or guys. I think the authors message is that girls can do anything they put their minds to, no matter how old they are, or the time and situation. As a girl in the eighteenth century England being a detective and traveling on your own as a girl was very inappropriate and dangerous. The fact that she was a girl and saving people as well as being a detective was again, not proper but very impressive and definitely proved a point to those who were discriminatory. (less)
