Way too many distractions these last couple of weeks. Anyway, it was an excellent beginning to what should be a very exciting series. I did have trouble at times with remembering that Mac was 22...she came across so young and petulant at times that she reminded me more of an angsty teenage beauty queen. But, as the book progressed, she managed to shed a lot of that and become much more mature, which was a good thing. As for Jericho Barrons...I know some of you are going to be shocked at this, but quite frankly, I couldn't see what all the hype was about. Yes, he was hot and seemed very intelligent (2 things I love in my leading men). But, he came across as too aloof and cold in this first book for me to really make any kind of connection with him (swooning or otherwise). I did like that he and Mac didn't become an item right off the bat, but other than an occasional "hungry" look at her breasts, I had the impression that he truly could have cared less whether she was around or not. Anyway, I hope to see something different in the next book to help me understand more about the Jericho Barrons craze. But until then, he'll just be an arrogant guy using Mac to get what he wants and not necessarily caring anything about her except that she remain alive and able to hunt down OOP's for him.
Okay, so I'll end with saying that I really did enjoy this book and am looking forward to reading the next so I can see what happens with Mac and how events unfold. If you like adult paranormal and you like books about fey, definitely check this one out. It gives a more gritty, dark look into that genre....more
