It was painful to read at times, but also inspiring and very hopeful. I feel that I learned a lot about alcoholism, the danger, the development, and the way it can effect someone's mind. My only wish is that more of the book had focussed on the author's recovery rather than just the last chapter. (less)

I want to own this book so that I can reference it for some of my therapy groups. Also, many of my favorite qoutes were not on goodreads yet and I need them! I will try to approximate one of my favorites, "All great artists are in touch with that source of inspiration, the human heart which tells are that we are more alike than we are unalike." Also contained in this book is the greatest graduation speach of all time. (less)

I eagerly read the account of the Stanford Prison Experiments, but the detailed account of the American torture in Iraq left me cold. The moral of the story seems to be that no one should be held accountable for their actions because the system is to blame. Although there is strong evidence to support the malleable nature of human morality, I think that it is still important that both systems and individuals be held accountable when there is wrongdoing afoot. If the world is so hopeless and we are but puppets of circumstance, then what is the point of living or trying? I can't accept the banality of evil or especially the banality of heroism to the point of excluding the fact that there is more to good and evil than, "my circumstances made me do it." (less)

The "year in the life" books really tend to make me feel all happy inside for some reason. Even though this one made me cry over the horrible state of the environment, it made me happy because inside the horror story was hope and someone taking some kind of action. I really connected with the author's mission and I would like to try some things myself. In fact, I already have tried some things (load of laundry in the bathtub this weekend, using a rag instead of a tissue.) Maybe I am justifying my grossness/hatred-of-the-laundromat by thinking that I am being environmentally friendly, but that is not the point. The point is: this book was grand. (less)

I love tori and I was pleased with this book. It was a meandering ramble through the grand and mythical mind of one of the great musicians of our time. No I didn't finish it, not yet but I read a lot of it. Not a page turner, but a thought provoker and an eye opener.(less)

Some Nice factoids but a lot of poorly supported statements. I was especially annoyed by The section in which the author states that female monkeys prefer female toys like dolls and male monkeys preferably masculine toys like cars. He does not give any details about the study, but states it like it is fact. I'd like to hear more. Also this book clearly carries a strong anti-vegetarian anti-vegan bias. It was funny though, I will give it that.(less)

This book was disappointingly terrible. Cho whinges on and on about her frustration and anger at the unjust world. I am a liberal lesbian feminist so she should be preaching to the choir when it comes to me. Unfortunately she came off as a cutesy self-centered sanctimonious ignoramus...or as she might say, "ignant person" Worst of all, it was not funny! Please let me read Chelsea Handler or Tina Fey or anyone who can actually make me laugh. Hated it!(less)

I also need to fulfill my goal of reading 100 books this year and I am falling short. Filled with good and delicous information, this book has left me well enough informed to eat plants off the ground nearly everywhere I go. (less)
