But I listened to this one first, and I don't regret it at all--it's one of the best audiobook listening experiences I've had!
Kate Reading, the narrator, is excellent--she really made me believe that I was listening to the memoirs of an opinionated Victorian lady naturalist, in a world where there just happened to be dragons.
In addition to the actual dragons (I am pretty much a sucker for a book with dragons in), I thought Isabella's growth in character and relationships was well done, as well as her eventual realizations about her own privilege--particularly her older self reflecting back on things she hadn't fully understood as a young woman.
The only downside of listening rather than reading is that this book is a physically beautiful object with some great illustrations--I checked out the hard copy later just for those!...more
