This book is so painstakingly slow that I really don't even care what's going to happen in the end. I thought I'd read it in short spurts but I forget what happened last time I read.
In my opinion, this book really should have been edited down a few hundred pages. The first book in a series (think Twilight and Harry Potter) should not be so long. It should be short(er) and sweet and thus, encourage you to want to read the rest of the series. I'm stopping here.
I'm sad that I feel this way. I see that many people love this book. I thought I would too. I've been waiting to read it for the longest time but it is always checked out of the library. I'm a huge vampire and witch fan (Harry Potter and Twilight are my favorite books) but this book just didn't jive with me. Perhaps, it was the intellectual jargon (which I usually like) mixed with the romance jargon (which also appeals to me).
Somehow, I felt that this book was trying to do too many things, mixing vampires with witches and intellect with romance and maturity with science fiction and mix the liberal new age woman with the chivalrous old school man (not realistic). I think I like books that just do one thing and do it very well and well, get to the point.(less)

I don't think the characters ring true to that time period either. It just didn't feel right. It sounded like a great idea for a book and some parts were not so bad but at page 110 I had had enough.
