Every year the 12 districts get together for the annual Hunger Games. Where one girl and boy from each district is chosen to represent them. To declare a winner of the games all tributes must be dead except for one. Katniss is from the 12th district which is the poorest out of all. They don't have much where she lives. She volunteers for the games after her sister Prim,11 gets called in because she knows her sister is to weak to complete and has take care their mother. She is joined by Peeta and they start their journey to the Hunger Games. Will they make it out alive? I think one of the main themes in this book was power. In the Capitol, the main district of Panem, is where all the money and riches are stored. It is also where the government is and because of that the government controls the rest of the districts. By having the Hunger Games it keeps all of the districts fighting against each other instead of trying to rebel against the Capitol. Some of the main characters of the book were Katniss, Peeta, President Snow and Cinna. By many of her descriptions the author made me visualize each and everyone one of her characters. I didn't really like President Snow so whenever his secret plans for the Hunger Games would backfire I would secretly get happy and continue to read just to see another plan get foiled. The style of the book was first person narrative of Katniss. I like it because as she’s going through the games it’s like I’m right there along with her.The book did have some funny jokes but most of it was fairly serious. Mrs. Collins makes me feel very much apart of the book the way she described the setting. District 12 reminded me of somewhere in a third world country with the no running water or electricity. The Capitol reminded me of the a very fancy place where everyone is dressed extragangently. The setting where the actual Hunger Games took place reminded me of the abbanned forest in the mountains. This book relates a lot to my life, I have overcome adversity and so did Katniss. It also relates to the Harry Potter Series because Harry never gives up on his main objective of killing Voldemort and neither does Katniss of stay alive for her mother and Prim. I would definitely recommend this book to someone who like sequels, exciting endings and love. Also someone in high school because I think the concept of death in this matter might be too violent for someone in middle and definitely elementary school...more

When one day a cyclone comes and lifts up their house with Toto and Dorothy in the eye of the cyclone. After what seems like days the house lands in a world were Dorothy has never seen before. The Good Witch of the North comes to greet her and tells her that she has set all the Munchkins free of their evil ruler the Wicked Witch of the East. The good witch gives Dorothy the shoes that the evil witch was wearing when she died. But Dorothy doesn't care about the shoes at all. She just wants to go back home to Kanas. The good witch tells Dorothy that only the Wizard of Oz in the Emerald City could send her back to Kanas; but in order to get there she has to follow the yellow brick road. The Good Witch also tells her to watch out for the Wicked Witch of the West and all of her wicked tricks. Along the way she comes across some interesting characters that join her on the way to the Emerald City. She also comes across some on the Wicked Witch of the West tricks. Does she make it to the Emerald city, find the wizard and get back to Kanas? Read the book to find out.
I really did enjoy the book because I thought it was very interesting and a really good page turnner. I liked how nice Dorothy was throughout the whole book. If I were to change anything about the book I would change the fact that Dorothy meet all the people along the way to the Emerald City. I think that it would have been a way smoother journey if Dorothy didn't have to basically keep track of all those people. I would defiantly read more books by this author.
I recommend this book to people ages 10-14 just to have a good story to read and recommend this to teens my age to read a classic book in American Literature. I don't really recommend this book to people who don't like fantasy or people who like dramatic and more serious books.

Tookie De La Crème, the main character, is a 15 year old awkward, big haired girl who dreams about getting invited and going up to Modelland. One day a mysterious scout from Modelland comes down and recruits her and ten other unlikely girls. When she gets to Modelland she is amazed by what she sees. The scouts at Modelland then tell her and the other girls that only seven of them could be Intoxbellas each year and something happens to the other 3 girls. Tookie and the other girls go through an intense boot camp. When Tookie finally feels that she might have a chance to become an Intoxbella a horror curse threatens her life. I really liked this book because even though its fiction it sounds like it’s written by the view of Tyra Banks at 15. I recommend this book to teenagers who want to be inspired and who like Tyra Banks. ...more

At the beginning of the book Cara is all alone without any real friends to hang out with. I thought it was kind of stupid for the popular girls started calling her choker just because she choked on some of her lunch at school one day. But when her best friend “Zoe” came to see her at school one day she said she was running away from her problems. “Zoe” helped Cara gain the confidence to be herself around people. Then all of a sudden two people up dead. The end I really just hated when I found out what was really going on in Cara’s life.
