I guess I just couldn't figure out how I was supposed to feel. Half the time I was totally behind Julia wondering why no one ever told her anything, and how everyone was so eager to jump to Micah's defense, while she didn't really have anyone in her corner. So I kept waiting for that to change, but it didn't really. So I was just confused. I also felt like Micah was uber needy...and I don't know how I felt about that, except not 100% positive. The book went in a totally different direction than I was expecting about half way through, and I think I lost a bit of interest there. *shrugs* Things I liked: Caleb, and the conversations between Caleb and Julia. She had some pretty good responses there. Truthfully, she also had some pretty good responses for Karen too. I appreciated that.(less)

While I enjoyed the movie Mean Girls, I actually liked that the main character learned something in the end. Keatyn reminds me of that movie, except I can't really say as she learned much...she *wanted* to, but I don't think she accomplished it in the end. And the mean people in this book were seriously HORRIBLE.
This book was not going to be good for me even if it didn't have a bunch of flaws that made it less than satisfactory on a general level. For me -- I'm not into fashion; I'm not ridiculous about "hot" guys and overanalyzing relationships....basically even though I've never watched Sex in the City (so I can't say that that's what the tv show is about, just the impressions I have), all the things that *don't* draw me to that tv show, also did NOT draw me into this book. I couldn't care less about brand name clothes and how they go together, or dancing...strike that, grinding in clubs with uber amounts of makeup on, or popularity or hot guys and "the" parties, and gah....basically I was not even remotely like the stereotype of teenagers these days, and so I couldn't relate to ANY OF IT. It had potential at times...I enjoyed the writing style, and the humour sometimes. But so much superficiality and complete lack of realism just shot this one for me. I really should have read That Boy first....I still will, but I guess I was expecting this to be one of those books about a popular girl who starts to grow as a person and becomes a better person. With a suspenseful stalker side plot. Instead, I got a tiny stalker subplot (which I guessed the stalker right from his introduction), and an extremely wishy washy main character. I would start to like her and think she was finally getting it, and then BAM, she's off on some other tangent, in love with some *new* boy, back to being a bitch. *sigh* I get that teenagers don't grow up and change that fast, and that they are kind of confused about who they are and what they want, but dear lord....if people like Keatyn exist in real life, I feel really bad for them. And OMG, I know hormones are bad in teenagers, but wow, talk about treating sex lightly. It's funny, b/c it was like occasionally Ms. Dodd would realize she was doing that, and she'd make a half-hearted attempt to make it seem more legit (like that Keatyn was in love or whatever), but seriously....seriously. I'm not even making sense anymore, I'm just flabbergasted at times.
So the general level flaws I mentioned?? At 70% you get to the climax, and even though this was going to be a series, the book continues on with just normal book stuff for 30% before just abruptly ending. It's not like there was the major climax at 70%, and then another mini climax afterwards. No, this was like a cliffhanger ending of a tv series season that then had 2 more additional episodes afterwards. Uh, what? If Ms. Dodd were to reconsider her pacing, she would be better off ending the book just before she gets to boarding school. Then you have the climax, a little bit of plot twisting, and setup for the next book. The split at this point makes no sense. It's like she hit a word count goal or something.
ON the plus side, Cush was awesome. I loved him from the very first "chapter". THe problem with that? His time in the spotlight was short lived, he had this bizarre about face that made NO SENSE to his character, and just when you think things are gonna get resolved, she tosses in a plot twist that basically takes him out of the picture again. And from the spoilers I just read about the next book (b/c I wanted to know whether to invest in it), there's nothing good happening there any time soon. So I'm gonna moratorium this series. It was NOT in ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM for me.(less)

Had my emotions all over the place right from the start, with a nice long bawl. I'm not feeling very articulate and descriptive, but this book just hit all those right spots for me. Great characters, flawed and growing. Tough situations. Great chemistry with Reece and Dani. And Colin was adorable. SO yeah, loved it.(less)

You don't have time to really get to know Raven too well, but so far I like her. She's spunky, but shy and insecure at the same time. Ian is just confusing as all get out, I can't figure out the deal, and totally think Triniti has something to do with it.... On to the next one...(less)

The banter between Connor and Megan was fabulous! I found myself grinning through much of their courtship and even trial period. They had great chemistry, and it came right off the pages. OK, first of all, Perry is seriously fucking awesome. Sorry, this review is apparently going to contain foul language for no good reason. I've heard people rave about Dex in this series, but Perry deserves some high fives...she is my kind of girl. A bit unstable, a bit chunky with lower self-esteem, a lot sarcastic and witty, and with a ridiculous imagination (maybe). I can vibe with all that thank you very much. Unfortunately, I can vibe a LOT with the ridiculous imagination, so while lots of reviews say this wasn't too scary, it scared the fuck out of me!! It didn't last the whole book, but the scary parts were enough to have me almost screaming at my husband when his arm flopped down in bed near my head while I was reading....poor guy didn't see that heart attack (of mine) coming. So if you're easily scared, this will work for you. I don't even know how I'm going to handle reading more b/c I really don't do horror well, but the whole concept is intriguing and I'm sucked in. Mostly I just loved everything about Perry and want more. The internal dialogue was hilarious, the interactions with Dex were thoroughly enjoyable, and apparently he just gets more yummy. And it wasn't a big romance...there's the tension, but the book is really more about Perry and her late coming of age. So many mysteries. I bought the next 3 books, but I'm going to have to read them all in the daytime b/c when I finally set my book down last night, I couldn't convince myself to get up and go to the bathroom in case something grabbed me from under my bed. YOu see the dilemma?? It was not a comfortable night's sleep needless to say....(less)

Ella is a hard character to get inside, she's almost even reserved towards the reader. But it was so worth it in the end... What chemistry. Seriously, omg, Micha is *drool*.... The shower scene? Oh yeah. And they just fit so well together. I love the friends to lovers thing... Two thumbs up, can't wait for more!!(less)

First, I finished the book and I was like "THAT'S IT???", I couldn't believe that while I was getting tired of reading serieses, that the one time I want more it's not a series. I needed an EPILOGUE or something. Just a kiss. Just that one kiss goddammit. Then I looked online before writing this review and found out -- YAY!!! It *is* a series!! And it was published 2013!! And then my hope crumbled when I eventually found out that it's *NOT* published yet, but still coming. *sigh* I'm really happy for independent authors who get picked up (for *their* sake), but I'm not happy for me, b/c publishing houses delay everything and crank up prices....*sigh* End rant.
OK, so how bout I actually talk about the book?? OK, best thing about it was Axelia BY FAR. She was frickin hilarious, and I just loved her voice. I could see being friends with her. She was just the perfect heroine, such an unlikely character to become this supposed prophecy. And as a fellow Canadian, can I get a "hell yeah" for her coming from Winnipeg?? Yeah, that was all shades of fun. Second best thing was the confusing Lucas. I really liked the way his character changed and grew around Zee. The book had lots of action, great descriptions that made me actually feel like I could know what it would be like to hear and see and smell things differently...and this is coming from a reader who's not usually big on descriptions, but it worked in this book. And while I have no idea how the series is going to continue, I just want more of Zee's voice, and obviously more Zee and Lucas....:) So yeah. Now I wait.(less)

And Charlie was just so...her own person despite her insecurities. This book surprised me anyways...I thought I would HATE Dominique...and I did at the beginning...and I couldn't see her growing. She was a strange character, but it worked in the end. And Charlie was just fabulous...so strong in so many ways, and so fragile in others. And she was so perfect for Clay...and Clay so perfect for her. ANd how he helped her deal with her issues...it was fabulous. Just a feel-good story all around. It just seemed to take Derrick so long to be redeemable and see what was in front him that it was kind of frustrating... And there were stupid tiny things that bothered me (like aren't women supposed to wait for the go ahead before having sex after giving birth? -- it seemed too soon).
The side characters were great though, loved Derrick's family...and the little tidbits of side stories were fabulous. <3 Lexi!(less)

For the parts that I loved, I seriously LOVED them. But I had a hard time tracking this book...plot wise, dialogues wise...something. It might be just me. But sometimes I'd be reading and I would feel like I missed something.... And I like mysteries, but sometimes it just makes a book more confusing when you purposely evade answering questions til the end....brings frustration.
So that was the less than stellar. The good news?? It was fabulous otherwise. The banter between the characters was hilarious at times...seriously LOL goodness. The supporting characters MADE the whole book...I couldn't imagine what it would have been like without the boys, Annie, Guy and Ellen...even maybe Missy. It was heartwrenching...I just felt for Gwen....she made this crisis in life so real and true. And the characters were far from perfect, beautifully flawed...which can be frustrating, but is kind of refreshing too. So all in all, 2 thumbs up.(less)
