The book focuses on the life of Harry Potter a young wizard who lives in a regular world full of mugals until one day he finds out that he holds magical powers. Soon he comes to realize that he is a wizard, but not just any wizard a wizard who was born to a famous mum and dad. Once he learns this he leaves the mugal world and goes into a school to learn how to become a great wizard just like his mum and dad. The book is full of great characters such as Harry’s best friends Ron and Hermoine, Dumbledore, and Dobby. I think children would really enjoy this book, because it is a famous book, but it is also full of action and imagination that will keep the children engaged throughout the book. The kids will love to imagine if they had the powers of Harry Potter and this could lead to many great writing prompts through out the year. For older children 5-6 I would use this book as independent reading and quiz them through out to make sure they were gaining comprehension. For younger kids 3-4 I would use this as a read a loud. I don’t think that this book would inappropriate despite the length because it will keep the child engaged through out the novel . I really enjoyed this book and I was glad I was forced to read it because it actually was really good. I don’t know if I was just wanting to go against the crowd when I was younger and that’s why I didn’t read it or what, but I ended up really liking it. I think if I was forced to have read it as a younger child I would have really enjoyed the series and would have really embraced the Harry Potter phenomenon! I think if I had an older classroom I would use this book because it is great literature that is also a big part of our pop culture and children would really enjoy it! (less)

I have read it multiple times and would love to have the opportunity to use it in my classroom. I think this book is a great one to read at any age. Many ideas and morals are touched upon. It helps to show the value of a friendship as well as showing that you can't be angry, and that one person can make such a big difference in a child's life. Jess Aaron's struggles are struggles that many children will be experiencing through out their young lives. If I had a group of older children I would use this book as a reading assignment, if I have younger students I would use it as a read a loud. I think all children should read this book because it is very eye opening. Although some adult subjects are touched upon like death I think children should be able to handle this because of the way it is done in this novel. (less)

This book follows the life of the caterpillar and the book advances with dots through out to count as the book continues on. The book teaches studnets about how caterpillars advance from eggs to caterpillars to a beautiful butterfly. As this is done counting is incorporated through the book in an engaging way that the children can follow along with. The illustrations are also very beautiful water colors that are bright and engaging for children. If I teach in a kindergarten classroom I would be sure to have this in my library!(less)

The book follows a young boy named Max who goes around the house trying to scare people by dressing up as a wolf, and his mom sends him to his room with out dinner. Max then goes onto imagine a wild jungle, but while he is in this jungle he comes to realize he is home sick, and wants to come home. This book shows the power of imagination, as well as how important family is. The illustrations in this are amazing! They are very imaginative and detailed. I would use this book for older students because it is kind of scary, but it is a great classic children book. (less)

I feel that I am reading this book about once a week, because the children love it so much. The books sequence of getting ready for bed, as well as the rhyme scheme, and vivid colors makes this bed time story a time less children's book. Although I am sure many of my students will have read this prior to entering my classroom, I would read this book to talk about sequencing, and the vocational study of getting ready for bed time. This book will remain timeless and if I have young children I will be sure to have this in my classroom. Also one thing I have noticed about this book through babysitting is that often times the children can "read" or have memorized the book well enough that they can recite it which goes to show that this book is very engaging for young kids. The story is about a science experiment that a little girl Holly who lives in New Jersey develops a science experiment. She sends out a bunch of vegetable seeds on weather baloons into space to see if plants could grow in outerspace. Soon on June 29,2009 huge vegetables were falling all over the United State Cucumbers circle Kalamazoo. Lima beans loom over Levittown. Artichokes advance on Anchorage" Then people all over the country start to trade these gigantic vegetables. How will Holly fix this?
The illustrations in this book are very funny and go well with the story line. They do a great job of showing how big the vegetables truly are and the colors are great. The pictures really help the story to show what this far fetched idea that David Wiesner is writing about would look like. I think older readers who were getting to do science experiments would enjoy reading this book to grab their attention and motivate them to work hard on theirs. Over all I liked the book and I think older readers would as well!(less)

This book is about a teacher who has no control of the class, but then one day they get a mean substitute teacher. This substitute was so mean that when Miss Nelson returned to school the kids were so thankful to see her that they began to act appropriately. I would use this book in the classroom for a fun read aloud for primary age students. They would really enjoy this book and find it very funny, but also learn a lesson that you can't push around your teacher like these students were. The illustrations were not very realistic and somewhat cartoonish, but they went well with the story. I would definitely use this book in my classroom!(less)

I thought this book was good because it had a strong moral about trading, something that kids love to do with lunch food and toys. It shows that sometimes trading is not always worth it, and that you should think for yourself. The illustrations were cartoonish but went well with the story and would keep the child's attention. I think that this book also shows the culture of Appalachia through the dialect and setting. I would definitely use this book in my classroom.(less)

Children seem to enjoy the characters and illustrations throughout the story. I enjoy reading these books to children because they have a strong moral content, but they don't make it so blatant that the story isn't entertaining. The series would be a great one to have in a preschool through first grade classroom library. The illustrations are done in light colors but are very accurate and go well with the stories, I think they maybe done in watercolors if I had to guess. I would recommend this book series to students to read, and I would also use them as read alouds in my classroom. (less)

I remember having it read to me as a child, and it was one of my favorites! It is great book to read to preschoolers and kindergartners to introduce and study the letters of the alphabet. They eventually go to a beach were the dog realizes that robots and water do not mesh well, and the robot rusts. This causes the dog to have to leave the robot on the beach by himself. The book shows the emotions that come with losing a friend. I think children would really enjoy this book, because often times when you are young when friends have to move away you feel that it is the end of the world. This book shows the emotions and will maybe help children to deal with this. I think 4-5 graders would grasp the concept of the book better than younger kids, but it could be appropriate to have in all grade levels because all kids could enjoy the pictures. The illustrations were very bright and detailed and were able to tell the story in an effective manner. I would have this book in my library!(less)

It is very engaging and keeps you wondering about what will happen next. You cheer for the princess to not have to marry the ogre, and hope that the king will not be able meet her needs. When the king does meet the needs of the princess she runs off prior to her marriage. After she ran off into the woods she meets a king in the woods, who thinks she's an interesting character because she was wearing a coat of 1,000 furs. This is why they call her furball. Furball starts to do all the dirty work in the castle kitchen. Then she hears about a ball that the king is having, and the cook lets her go! Furball dresses in her beautiful outfit that she still had from when she was the princess. The king dances with furball, but she goes away quickly. The king vows to find her, but she is furball again and makes the king soup. Then the king recognizes that she is the princess who he met earlier.
The illustrations are beautifully and realistically done in neutral colors. They are not bright, but they depict the actions of the stories beautifully. The illustrations will help to engage the students in the story. (less)

The book is about two young children named Calder and Petra, who get caught up in a mystery of a missing art piece in the city of Chicago. This book is very engaging and entertaining because it is full of action and keeps you wondering about what will happen next through out the story. This book reminded me of the Davinci Code, but children appropriate. I could easily see this book becoming a children’s film, because there is so much action through out. I really enjoyed how the characters were developed as well as the action. I would love to use this book in the classroom if I was in an older grade level. I feel the kids would be very engaged and would want to know what was going to happen next so asking them to read something this long would be easy. I could see using this book for the first longer chapter book for your kids because it is easy to read, because your students will want to know what will happen next in this great mystery adventure novel. This was a great book I really enjoyed it! I am glad you showed us this book in class.(less)

This is also a childhood favorite of mine that I love to read to children now, and they enjoy also. The story is well written and the rhyme scheme keeps it engaging. The illustrations of Paris are great. Madeline is a great character in children's literature. A little girl who is as daring and rambunctious as Madeline is a great character. The story of Madeline has so many ups and downs and adventures with in one short story that it become a book that you love to read over and over. I would use this book in my classroom from K-2. Although it is written for young girls I think boys would find it enjoyable because Madeline is such a daredevil! A book that I will definitely keep on my bookself. (less)

I think children would really enjoy this book because the frog gets into many quirky situations that the children would find really funny. The illustrations are very vivid and engaging with a lot going on in them . I think young children would really enjoy looking at and reading this book because it is almost like a silent cartoon that will make them laugh, and they will feel like they are reading! Over all this was a good book, and is a series that could be worth having in your classroom if your students seem to enjoy them!(less)

I chose to read this book because it was a caldecott winner, and the illustrations were great and very accurate and descriptive for the book. This is a a book I would have in my classroom library, but I probably wouldn't use it for a read aloud. (less)

The information in the text is accurate and presented in a child friendly manner. The adventures that the Frizz gets her class into are always fun for the kids to imagine and enjoy. You can't help but to like all of the characters and their unique fun features. The illustrations are also very factually accurate and aid in the information that students learn. I like that this series covers a wide range of science topics as well. (less)

It is entertaining and hysterical book that children love. The book is about a group of cows that find an old type writer and begin communicating with the farmer through typing. The cows are so funny in their demands and the farmer's responses were just as funny. I have read this book with preschool and kindergarten students that I babysit and they love it, but I often notice that older siblings will come join the reading because they love the book so much too and find it very amusing! I would use this book in an early primary classroom to teach literacy and also for entertainment.(less)

In the classroom I observed last semester the teach did a unit with this book to teach students about rules, and to help establish classroom rules. I was in a second grade classroom with low level readers, and they really enjoyed this book and activity. The book follows Officer Buckle and his dog Gloria as they go to schools and present important rules and laws to the students. The kids love the assembly so much, and officer Buckle thinks he is doing a great job, but little does he know Gloria is the star of the show! The illustrations in this book are also very bright and cute, and highlight Gloria's hilarious tactics. They really help to support the book. (less)

It is a book that was written not to long ago and shows that prejudice can be addressed and there is no need to be scared. This book is about two young boys in New York City one is Jewish Abe and one is black Willie. They live across the alley from one another and their bedroom windows face each other. They met each other during the summer time when the windows were open to stay cool and they became friends. Abe taught Willie how to throw a slider and Willie played his violin for Abe to enjoy. Then one night Abe's grandfather caught them. He affirmed to them that their is no reason they can't be friends, and their friendship blossoms. Willie plays in the Jewish baseball league with Abe, and Abe plays his violin in the synagogue for the Jewish people. The illustrations in this book are great and beautiful. They depict the story wonderfully. I really enjoyed this book and would have it in my classroom!(less)

I love how it shows the emotions and actions of a snow fall in many different perspectives. This book expresses how much a snowfall means to a young child and how exciting it is, as well as how adults can be downers during a snowfall. The action of Snow shows how a snow accumulation happens. I would use this book as a read aloud to kindergarten through second grade. These illustrations are wonderful, and this book was a caldecott award nominee. The soft colors and illustrations really show the joys of a snow fall for young children. (less)

Her series was one of my favorties as a child. We would often have them as read alouds in class and I have many on my bookshelf still at my parents house. Last year in a second grade classroom they were using this series for their small groups and the children's loved it. I think this is a great series. The illustrations in the book are funny and go well with the series. The series shows the power of a child's imagination and Dadey does a great job of writing this as an adult. I will use this series in my classroom!(less)

I know a lot of boys are enthralled at the thought of riding motorcycles when they grow up and many of their male role models may also ride motorcycles! I chose to read this book because my uncle is an avid motorcyclist and I have many friends who ride motorcycles. I never could truly understand what would draw people to a hobby that can be extremely dangerous, but this poem described the experience and excitement of riding a motorcycle in a beautiful poetic way! The words show you what it is like to ride a motorcycle and the illustrations show what the world looks like as your riding through it on a motorcycle! The illustrations are wonderfully done in "manly" colors and it allows you to imagine what it is like seeing these objects from a motorcycle! I would use this for boy readers age 5-8.(less)

Once children surpass easy readers and picture books I think this would be a cute next step book to have in a classroom, it could also be used as a read aloud to introduce students to chapter book in early grades.
All LuLu wants for her birthday from her parents for her birthday is a pet Brontosaurus of course Lulu's parents tell her absolutely not. Lulu was not used to this because she usually would get anything she asked for, but not this time. Since Lulu did not know how to deal with this she began to whine, throw fits, and tantrums. She sets on an adventure to find a pet brontosaurus herself and the story follows her through out her adventure in the forest. I like the morals that this books shows in a fun way that you can not always get what you want and you must listen to your parents. Young readers would truly be enthralled with this story and the funny adventures that Lulu finds herself getting into.
The illustrations are also very funny and go well with the text. They are dark colored and not bright like many other children's books, but they still have a unique and cute cartoonish quality to them that children would enjoy. I really enjoyed the illustrations and think children would too.
This is definitely a book I would like to have in my classroom as a fun read aloud or independent reading book!(less)

Samuel and his family live deep in the woods of Pennsylvania and had no idea about the Revolutionary War, until the war came to them. When the war confronted Samuel and his family his parents were held as prisoners of the british. Samuel made it his mission to find and save his parents no matter what. He followed the British troops who had his parents all through their trails of war. During his adventure Samuel was confronted by the trails and disturbing images of war. He also met many patriots who taught him about what they were fighting for in the war. Samuel had to follow the British troops from the woods of PA all the way to their headquarters in New York City. This book was great! It was an interesting look at the revolutionary war, as well as full of adventures. I think children would enjoy this because it is about a young charater. This would be great to use in fifth grade classroom when studying the revolution. The cover page was done nicely. It draws the reader and shows the excitement and scariness of war that faces Samuel through out the story. (less)

It is about the life of Roberto Clemente who is one of the greatest if the not the greatest baseball to ever live. The picture book shows the struggles and triumphs that Roberto faced through out his life and also goes into how his life ended tragically in a plane crash were he was going to deliver aid to earth quake victims in Nicaragua. This book should show children that everyone struggles and has hardships in their lives and that you have to prove people wrong and over come them in order to succeed. It also shows that hardwork is what causes success. I also liked that this book showed Roberto's latino heritage by having spanish phrases through out the book to go along with the english text.
I think the illustrations were beautiful they have a latino spin to them in terms of the bright colors! I really enjoyed them and I think they followed the book well, and would help engage student during the story. (less)

The pigs are very life like, but have human features which makes them like cartoons. The pigs go on an adventure to get an ice berg to have fresh water and as they are on this adventure the pigs do many funny things. I think children would enjoy reading this book.
