All through Wicked Designs, I kept thinking about how I couldn't wait for his book. I love the whole storyline of the forbidden romance with your best friend's sibling. It's one of my secret vices. The storyline flows really well and had me glued to my virtual pages on my Kindle into the wee hours of the night! All the interactions with the fellow League of Rogues makes the story twice as great. You can tell they would do anything for one another and that they have made a family with each other.
I can't say enough good things about any Lauren Smith book I read. She is able to bring Horatia and Lucien's romance to life and make it seem like something that actually happened in the past. I've read some stories where the hero and heroine have been secretly in love with each other for quite some time, and the books were meh at best. I don't EVER have to worry about that feeling with Lauren's tales. She is a truly talented author who can write now wrong in my book!...more

It just so happens that the person she is betrothed too would be willing to do whatever he can to gain the king's seat, including get rid of her young cousin, the future King of Scots. She will do what she can to protect her aunt's (the person she was closest to) son including hiding her desire for the sexy warrior who is tasked to help see them to safety. Well let's just say that doesn't last but so long.
Hawk is taken immediately by Marsi the moment he sets eyes on her. Or hands. You pick. All he can do is think about her when she is not around and when she is around, he does nothing but try to figure her out. She doesn't act like a normal maid but Hawk is determined to figure out why that is. When Marsi's cover is finally blown, Hawk's desire is quickly overtaken by anger. How dare she lie and sneak out of the castle with them. Now he has not just one royal to protect but two. But as they make their way farther into their journey, they find themselves falling deeply in love. However, their love is at risk at the hands of the same man wanting the throne for himself. They must fight for their love and to save the future of Scotland.
I will willingly state that I am not a super big fan of historicals but I was not disappointed at all with this book. It probably helps that it had Scottish elements in it left and right which I just love. Ms. Scott sucked me in with her wonderfully written characters and enticing places they visit. Although it is back in the days of uncleanliness, sword fights, and out of hand power struggles, the story was spun together with such finesse it was magical to read. It made me want to hop in the nearest DeLorean and travel back to that time. Bravo to Ms. Scott for her addicting Highland read. ...more

Darina is a strong female in a world full of headstrong males. Of course, her and the other women in her clan are taught from a young age that they can do most of what men can do and more. But after Darina's father passes, her world is turned upside down. Her Uncle Ruarc informs her that she will be married to a complete stranger from another clan.
Patrick MacCahan can't understand why he was the one to be chosen to be married to a woman from the O'Malley clan. No one wants a simple black smith with a speech issue. What he doesn't know and comes to realize is the respect people have for him. On top of respect, Patrick also learns of a dark secret that has been kept from the O'Malley clan for years that will determine the start of a war from another clan. Oh the drama!
I LOVED this book so much. I read it in less than twenty-four hours. I loved all the dialog with the characters and the settings were to die for. All around this was a great read. I will let you know though that it does end at a part that made me scream "NOOOOOOOOO!" out loud that scared my kids. Lol. I didn't want it to end and I definitely can't wait for the second installment. :) ...more

Full of seduction and drama with a little action thrown in, In Total Surrender was a great book. There is a reason Anne Mallory is a best selling author. She knows how to write a terrific story. ...more

Caroline's husband (who is in his seventies), he demands she have an affair and produce a child, and it must be a son, that will become heir to her husband's mill. Caroline is appalled at her husband's request. She has been nothing but a good wife for the past fifteen years and wants to be a free woman and take over the mill after her husband dies but she will not get anything if she doesn't become pregnant. So her brother comes along for a visit with men who have no issues with having affairs but they all turn out to be duds. There is a man, however, that she thinks about whenever she pictures herself having an affair with someone. Too bad he was badly injured in an accident at the mill, oh, and her husband despises him.
Jack knows he has nothing to offer Caroline but he has watched her for years and yearns to be a good enough man to be able to win her love and affection, but he won't be able to do anything about that if he can't make it to an appointment in London with a manufacturer. After many late night book readings by Caroline, she encourages him to make the trip to London. When he gets there, her is told he is not physically able to do the job that he wants. Feeling like nothing can go right in his world, he manages to get back home to Caroline and comes up with a brilliant idea to make his crutches more comfortable using a material called rubber. Meeting Caroline when he gets back, he discovers they did succeed in getting her pregnant but they have Mr. Broadhurst to worry about. Many signs are indicating that he may be a murderer.
Most of the book was great reading because the dialogue kept you flipping pages and then all of a sudden there is craziness going on that made it all the more enjoyable. Who doesn't love drama? Even if you aren't a historical romance reader, you should still give this book a chance. You won't regret it. :)...more
