In the second book of this fantastic series, we once again follow the story of Sofia and her beloved Prince of the Shade, but will is she really in love with him or does she just think she is? That's the main question that has gone through my head the whole time while reading this one. Author Bella Forest is an author that can describe things and every time you read a word you can picture said item in your head. For instance, the buildings/houses in the shade. I can picture the Princes tree house in my mind clearly. I really love that about these books, her descriptions are so vivid and come to life as you read the story. ...more

I was thoroughly surprised that I ended up really enjoying the story.

The first thing I want to say is that it does start out a bit slow, but all in all this is a great book. There are a few things that I didn't really care for and I want to get them out of the way really quick so we can talk about the things I love.
First thing that I kind of had a problem with was that she fell in love with 3 guys. It was a bit to much insta-love for me. I'm good with a love triangle, but if they fall in love right away without that build up, it just irks me. That kind of love doesn't exist and I just can't stand it in books. I would rather it feel real. In all honesty I couldn't stand that she just couldn't make up her mind which one she wanted. I think if those things were changed I would have loved this book even more than I already do.

But I was totally disappointed as soon as I started reading.

Let's talk about this fabulous book shall we? The Assassin's Curse is by far one of my favorite books that I have read this year, followed by the other book in this series of course. I loved so much about this book, the plot and it's characters are perfection. The dialogue between Ananna and Naji had me laughing at wanting to punch both characters at times. All of the elements that I look for in a book were present in The Assassin's Curse.
I also really liked that the ending wasn't predictable to me, in this book I wasn't sure what was going to happen next and that to me makes a fantastic book. Ananna is a character that I really connected with, she's thrown into a situation and is strong enough to figure out how to deal with it. I loved that about her. Time after time she proves to the readers of the book that she is the strong one and she's not even the Assassin.
My favorite part of this book was the reason he has to protect her, it was very creative of this fantastic author and not something I've seen in many books. I also really loved how the author described everything, it was if I was there running right next to Ananna and Naji the whole time. ...more

I myself went through a divorce, so I understand not only going through it but watching kids go through it as well. I also understand taking that chance on someone and opening your heart back up to love. So yes I connected very well to these characters.
Now with all that being said I want to talk about the writing, plot, characters and all that jazz. I have read this book twice as of today, I enjoyed it that much. Like I said above it really hit home for me and I can't wait to read more by Annalyse. The first time I picked up my Kindle to read this one I was hooked after the first page turn and read it straight through staying up all night long to finish it. I couldn't close my eyes without thinking about the story and the characters so I ended up turning back on the light and read more till there was no more to read.

They've broke each others hearts before, sad at times, but this book was super sweet. I enjoyed seeing the journey these two great characters made together.
I will also say this, As You Turn Away was the perfect change for me, I needed something sweet to read and this was perfect for that. Now let's talk characters, both Quinnlan and Jonah were both very well thought out and fully fleshed characters. I really love how they both grow in this one. You can see it as you read and that is really important for me when reading any book.
