What I Loved <3
Alexa was such a badass heroine...I love a female who can kick everyone's asses...she made this book reminiscent of the Hunger Games (which I adored) and the Graceling (which blew my mind). While I am a sucker for characters like this, Alexa was not as 3-dimensional as the heroines from the books I mentioned. While she was wonderful and all that shit, she was ultimately bland. NOW that being said, I loved reading about her because like I mentioned I have a weakness for kung fu fighting female character. Also Sara Larson did set Alexa apart from all the other badass heroines in the end. (view spoiler)[ When ALexa's face was scarred I was like O__O woah that's new...I mean it's fine to scar a heroine's body but her FACE...woooooow that's her moneymaker...how else will she attract the hordes of lovely suitors she's meant to receive cause...let's be real ...all YA heroines end up with all the guys lovingher. (hide spoiler)] I liked the twist she put in the end so kudooooossss to you Sara!!!
The MAGIC!!! I adore a book with some lovely magic. The sorcerers in this book were so awesome and all powerful. HOWEVER (view spoiler)[ WTF reallllyyyy??? the prince is a sorcerer...which adds to his deceit...grrr which made me dislike him even more jhfldsjg;lfsak (hide spoiler)].
What I not-so-much Loved...
The Practicality of the whole story...first of all the Breeding houses while a good idea and very original is completely impractical...whodafaq is going to take care of all those BABIES??? King Hector needs to get his shit together if he thinks babies are better fighters than grown-ass women.
Also the pacing...(view spoiler)[ when Marcel died *tear* his death was so ABRUPT ...like when his body was burned it was literally two lines after he got shot then it was all over...brother for 17 years and taken out of the story in less than 4 pages *sigh* I disapprove... (hide spoiler)]. And also how was Alexa's training time only TWO WEEKS??!!! How can she defeat an all-powerful sorcerer with TWO WEEKS OF training...It just seemed too rushed. While the book was a normal length for a book of its genre everything seemed too rushed. It could have been split into two books easily.
Oh and now to the Looovee-triangle (if you can even call it that). It seems that Alexa has the same affliction as Bella of Twilight and many (VERY MANY) other female heroines--the "omfg boys love me *sigh* what am I to do" disease. It made actually no sense why Rylan loved her. She was a bitch to him like half the book...correction THE WHOLE BOOK. Was he so starved of female companions that she was the only alternative...unlikely, since Alexa thought he looked so dreamy. That being said, I usually love characters like Rylan. He's the best friend who is honorable and FUDGING ADORABLE...but in this case he seemed very under developed as a character. There was very little complex personality to him other than his undying love for Alexa *eyeroll*. Damion had more reason to love Alexa but not that much...the love story was definitely too rushed as was most of the book.
Now the main boy toy.. Damion...*sigh* that name "Damion", I feel like every main love interest's name is Damion... come on, I get it Damion is a hot name but ORIGINALITY PLEASEEEEEE!!!!!!!!Now to the character himself...WHY OH WHY was he so annoying. I hate main characters that lie all the time...which means I hate most of the guys the YA heroines end up with, so Damion...don't take it personally. I would have loved it if Alexa shoved his stupid head in the dirt, and fell for Rylan instead, but who am I kidding...Damion's abs are just to hot to pass up.
In summation this books had SOOO much potential...It could have been AMAZING, but it was only above average. I found the story interesting enough but it was lacking in many aspects. However the writing and POV wasn't disgusting and annoying so I ended up finishing the book without excessive skimming, which is quite an accomplishment in my book, so 3 1/2-4 stars. I will most likely read the next book...hopefully it'll be better than the debut novel, but if it isn't I'll still enjoy it I imagine.
For a debut novel I would like to congratulate Sara cause it was a very fun read. I hope to see more of her in the years to come :)

It broke my heart to see Eden's heart torn by the english hottie and though I have grown to love Jericho, the loss of what was the perfect prince charming, accent and all, was slightly disarming.
Rachel definately didn't disappoint with her second installment of Star-crossed I'm buzzing with anticipation and excitment for the next book.. Hopeless Magic was a vivid and captivating read ...more
