Looking back, he was a total psycho whose version of discipline was dangerously close to physical abuse, and he spent half the year having paranoid freak-outs about imminent nuclear holocaust. Anyway, I guess I was lucky to have read this one first, as I'm among the few who I find to NOT be surprised that he wrote the stories that became The Shawshank Redemption and Stand By Me. The other two stories aren't half bad either (the Breathing Method might actually be the best of the four, but is fairly unfilmable).(less)
