(view spoiler)[ It really was just a long rant by a crotchety old man: "If you gave me a TON of money, and almost unlimited power, this is how I'd go about solving the drug problem." The story never picks up. It was kind of like a movie where it just seems like set-up after set-up, and you keep wondering when the realy plot is going to start up, and then suddenly the credits are rolling. Althoug...moreMore of a browbeating lecture than a book. Crichtons normally engaging prose gets overwhelmed with his sanctimonious anti-global warming rants. Although he ends with what should be a valid point about not blindly accepting theory for fact and making up ones mind for ones self, you can't help but notice the rest of the book seems to often contradict that lofty sentiment.(less)
