This book is nothing like the Young Adult books now. Now it's (honestly) pretty much the same thing: normal girl, so she thinks, is at high school when a totally hot mysterious guy shows up and for some reason finds interest in her. They fall in love and then BAM! He is not who he said he was. nope he is a vampire!! (or werewolf or fae, etc.) Don't get me wrong...I LOVE those books haha but that's normally what they are. Right?
Not these books. These books tell a whole different story. Yes, Clary is a normal girl, so she thought, and is drawn into a world she never new about but it was really different still. I couldn't help but compare it to the Harry Potter series. Not in the way of magic, adventure, and secrets but as in how different it is from the average YA book. They both have the thing of a dark lord who seeks power and is somehow connected to the main character. I love both of theses books!! I am probably not going to make sense since I am kinda rambling but hopefully you get what I mean! :)
Clary Frey is your average teenager. She live with her mom, has a best-friend Simon and has a special talent. Her talent, like her mom, is being artistic. Her dad died when she was very young and they now live by themselves. Well, that is always what she had been told but in reality......Clary is the daughter of Shadowhunter Jocelyn Fairchild and *bum, bum, bummmm* *********Spoiler: Valentine Morgentstern, the evil lord of Idris **********end of spoiler.
This book is filled with so many surprises! Like no joke! Once you make a conclusion BAM!your wrong and it turns a corner! Then the cycle repeats. I think I was only right like twice while reading the WHOLE series! Maybe I'm just a bad guesser eh I don't know. Haha I have to let you in on a little secret. When the YA-Crush tourney was going on I was #TeamAsh all the way and when Ash had to go up against Jace I was devastated when he lost. I hated Jace. I didn't know why everyone loved him so much I mean come on! Jace vs. Ash!? That should be a no-brainer! So when I got the chance to read Jace's books I was warry and After the first book my thoughts were "Ewww! What the heck!" because of ***Spoiler: Jace was Clary's brother! Who in the world writes a book like that! I have a little brother and I found the idea revolting! I just couldn't get that idea past me. I wasn't sure whether or not to stop reading! *****End of spoiler But in the end the fan base these books were getting kept me reading and I was glad I didn't stop reading! Jace is adorable and he is a fictional crush of mine and even though I know pretty much everone of you is going to hate me after saying this but I still love Ash 10x more. Yes, I said it! Sorry but don't get me wrong Jace is um HOTNESS TO THE CORE! and I extremely love him!
Cassandra Clare definitely has a way with words. I absolutely love her writing style. Throughout the books you will find yourself reading from many diferent points of views. You don't just get the main character's view or even both the girl and boy's veiw like how other books do but you get pretty much every single characters point of view Simon's, Alec's, Magnus' , Izzy's, and even the girl you didn't know at all (you do after that). And I absolutely loved it.
Now reading that, probably some of you are thinking "Wouldn't you get confused? How do you know right away who's eyes your seeing through?" and here's the answers: No you don't even if at sometimes you aren't sure who it is right from the first line...the second line does. It is made easy and you will fall in love with it at the end
Yes this a book you ALL need to read. This series was incredible! It will not dissapoint and for those of you who may think what I was thinking by the end of the first book and thought of quitting too. Here's some advice: DONT! what ever you do do NOT stopping reading. It gets better I promise! And DONT stop on the second one either! Trust me on this guys! :)...more
Evermore is about a girl who lost everything, her family, her home, most of her memories, her popularity, and her normalcy after a terrible car accident. She woke up in the hospital seeing people's auras and being able to read their thoughts and life story in one touch. And when she moves in with her aunt, an unmarried women with no kids and a busy schedule, she has to start all over again. New school, new friends, and a new level on the high school food chain. She is now labeled as a freak. Ever can't help but blame everything on herself and ask one question over an over again: "Why me?" Now when new kid Damen Auguste moves into town and is adamant about getting her attention, which who wouldn't mind that! He is totally HOTT!!, her life takes another twist. Ever and Damen have a past. A past that will take a lot of patience to understand. Secrets will be revealed and love is undeniable but will she be able to survive it?
Ok so this is kind of an old read but I wanted to still do a review of it. So the whole series is out FYI!! :) Honestly, I really like the first book! Ever is insecure and normally I really hate those type of characters. I tolerated her in the first book because of Damen. Oh Damen!! I really liked him! He was uber cute, mysterious, and a trouble maker. Everything about this first book I liked. After reading this one I bought the second, which I thought was ok.
I decided to by the third, hoping it would get better and I would be drawn in more but sadly, it failed me. I didn't continue buying this series and didn't even finish. I stopped at book three. Ever got to annoying, Damen lost his likableness, the plot went down hill and splattered. I think I might have like them more if she wouldn't have dragged on so much.
Yes, that's it. Alyson Noel just dragged these books out to far. She would have been better of with just a trilogy. I felt like she didn't know what else to write about so she just made it up as she went. I loved the "evil boy" in this book! She did a good job at that. I am giving this book four stars because I really liked this book!!
If you like an immortal story of love and loss then pick it up at maybe like the library or borrow it from someone! Who know you might really like this series! but it just wasn't my cup of tea. I hate to ever stear anyone away from reading a certain book and try to stay positive but sometimes there is only so muh you can say. My summary: Great first book in the series! Fill free to try it out and see what you think but beware of some pot holes! ...more
~Review: I had heard many great things about this book so when I got the chance I bought it. Along with book twoOriginally posted at Girls on YA Books
~Review: I had heard many great things about this book so when I got the chance I bought it. Along with book two, Where She Went, they were a package deal. ;) I really got to say and brag....best decision ever. Don't borrow the book. Don't rent it from the library. Buy it. You need it. From page one I was completely consumed. The pages just flowed. Before I knew it, I was half way done and then...finished! I actually got to paying attention to see just how consumed this book got me. My average turned out to be 1 page per minute. I literally lost myself in this book's pages!
Between the music and the characters, I don't know which was more of my favorite. Gayle just had this perfect way with words. Words that captured your attention. Words that described the scenery of Oregon gorgeously. Words that made you feel the sorrow, hurt, confusion, and love of the characters. Words that made every character unique. Words that gave each piece/reference to music, beauty. Perfection!
Maria was a strong character. She gave insight to things you never would think of. She has such passion for both her music and her loved ones that made me respect her. She was different from those around her but that just made her standout that much more..in the best possible way. I loved her character! Her friend Kim was awesome...I loved the flashbacks throughout the book. OH! And the no chapter thing: brilliant. I loved that the book was separated by time rather than Chapter 1. Chapter 2. etc. Then, Adam. Man...I love this boy. He is the sweetest thing ...ever!! And the fact that he and Mia are such opposite sides of the spectrum make their love that much more cute! They don't have the perfect relationship. They have their problems but their love is real and true. There is no question about it.
And I can't resist this...so here is a present from me to you...My favorite quote of the whole book: (Provided by Adam) <3
"You didn't really get those tickets from a family friend, did you?' I asked. .... He shook his head. 'that was two weeks of pizza delivery tips'"
And that. was when I fell in love with Adam Wilde.
If I Stay is breathtakingly beautiful. It will blow your mind, crush your heart, and completely consume you. Yes, beautiful is often associated with this book but it's true. I can't think of any better word to give this book but "beautiful". It is all sorts of beautiful. If you haven't gotten your hands on this book yet, you better. This is not a book to prolong.
I have to be honest in all my review right? Ya, I know I do. But I also know that almost every single one of my favorite bloggers absolutely adored this book.....and I....did not. Well, not at first that is.
So I bought the whole series along time ago and hadnt yet read them so I decided to finally one day. So, I started it! Duh!!! And then....I stopped. It was pretty boring. Then I went on goodreads to look at my friends were saying and came to the first review I saw. One of my favorite bloggers....H.D. If any of you have read the review you obviously know what it says...if not...go read it...(Review).
Now...Don't bash on him ok? Yes, its not one of those raving reviews but its honesty. And that is what, we as bloggers, are supposed to do. We shouldn't butter up a review and be fake just cause other people really liked that particular book. Or just cus we don't want to hurt any feelings. Of course you should hurt feelings by bashing a book. Soooo not part of the blogger code!(if there is one haha idk..maybe I should make one??) ;) We need to be honest....whether we liked the book or not. We need to express our true thoughts! And that's what H.D. did...and I agree! Like 100%!! But I think liked it a bit more than he did.
So I'm going to have to brake this review into a sort of pro vs. con review.....starting with cons so we can end on a good note ya? :)
Cons: So....lets start with...The love story. I really do think it was all a bit familiar don't you think? ...like uhm I don't know....Twilight familiar? ...this was something I agreed with H.D. on. Sam (Edward) was the creepy stalker who was an obsession of Grace's (Bella). She didn't know why but she loved him...he fascinated her...(the wolf). Those yellow eyes that haunted her every thought. And she was the one he couldn't stay away from. He felt it was his duty to protect her....and someday be with her. But in this story..Grace can't talk with her obsession cus he is a wolf. But then one day....they meat person to person...
One...WOAH!!!!! Nice meat and greet huh? ;) Naked guy on the porch! haha .....anyways skip, skip....to that night after the hospital...(cus of circumstances)...and she invites him to stay..in her room. WOAH!! (again) you just met the dude! Yes he seems familiar. Yes he just told you what he was but uhm!!! Red flags should be going off!!! What if he is just crazy!? What if he is some stalker killer who put on contacts cus he was watching you and your wolf obsession!!? But wait...she flippin invites him to sleep in her bed!!!! Again...agreeing with H.D. here!! What if he were to kill her!? Obviously...one its just a book. Ya let your imagination run free! And two...none of that happens but still...girl needed some common sense.
Then we have a quicky love story. Seriously. Day two..not even actually it was just the morning after they met.....and they make out in the kitchen. Ya, girl....no. Sorry but no. But honestly you have to keep reading and then it's cute. You just can't think about the time they have known each other on a human to human basis and your all good! That is what I had to do...imagine they knew each other longer than they did.
Now.....for the writing....Once again agreeing with H.D. I love how authors try to be different and unique. It's great! Go for it! I love different! I love that some of you I can read a page and guess...Oh! Yupp! That could only have been written by "so an so". Its awesome!! BUT!!! Please! I love you Maggie but this line bugged me as much as it bugged H.D. And I couldn't have agreed more with what he had to say so I am going to quote the quote and what H.D. had to say....
"'I was a leaking womb bulging with the promise of conscious thoughts...'
What. The. Heck. I re-read this sentence a million type. I couldn't get over that. What the heck was this? This weird, totally scary metaphor. I'm all for this adventurous prose. I'm all for authors trying new things and trying to stand out and be different. But to compare the idea of having conscious thoughts to a woman's LEAKING WOMB just isn't...real? Would any male (or even female, for that matter) take the moment in extreme agony or frustration to point out that: YEAH, I fell like a leaking womb!
I don't think so."
Ya, that pretty much sums up my thoughts on that. And like he said.. don't hate...its a matter of opinion. and again good for Maggie and her comparisons! I liked most of them while others...just weird. I'm sorry but that's just how I felt. I LOVED her song lyrics for Sam! LOVED LOVED LOVED!!!! I loved her other comparisons most of the time. Go for unique! Go for colored vocabulary but PLEASE!!!!! Do not. go. off. the. deep. end!! Colorful is for intense moments. for when other simple words can't express the things that are going on but not. like. this. please. Again love stuff like this. But please don't over do it. I think I made myself pretty clear now! :) Sorry and thanks.
Oh..and personally...Sam didn't quite make my crush list yet..(YET!) He was a bit too clingy..stalkerish in book one...Idk I love him! And I adored him at the end! And his story!!! Two words: heart breaking. I loved him for it! It made him a bit more stronger and likeable! Loved him but...waiting a bit! ;) Sorry ladies!! :b
The love between the two of them was sooo beautiful!! I loved the adventures, the heart ache, the romance. I loved all the side characters! Maggie did an awesome job with character description! Sam's lyrics! SOOOO CUTE!!! Die! Swoon!! All the background and folklore (idk if I used that word right) description and outlining! The scenery description! Beautiful!! The end!!! GAHHHHHH!!!!!! <3 x100 The alternating POVs :)
Advice: If you are going to read this book...... And like it from the beginning....YAY!!! I'm so glad!! Maggie deserves all the fans she has gotten!! I'm glad you had no problems!! YAY!! YAY!! YAY!!! (no sarcasm whatsoever!) That is great! :) And didn't like it from page 1.....keep reading! It gets better! Honestly...I kept reading for one reason and one reason only....I had bought the entire series already and Goddammit I was going to freakin finish what I had paid for whether I liked it or not. And guess what!!? I don't have to have an agonizing time reading the rest of the series because I ended up liking it in the end! And am on book 2 now...yes it takes awhile to read sometimes but I do like it! :) So you keep reading and hopefully you will come to like it too! Keep reading and don't give up! Or stop and pick it up some other time! Who knows, your thoughts might change! :) Now...3 stars cus I did end up liking it! It would have gotten two due to the fact of finishing just to finish but I think it deserves the three star rating because I liked it in the end!! :)
I hope this will help ya! Thanks for reading and stopping by! :) ~Jaiden...more
Meghan Chase was just a normal teenage girl struggling with the drama of highschool...or so so she thought. She is actually a half-summer fey of the Summer court. Not only is she part fey but a fey princess, daughter of King Oberon. Julie expertly throws in facts, stories, and characters from A Midsummer's Night Dream.
After her half-brother is taken she dives into the world she has never known other than a fairy-tale. Her best friend is not who she thought he was but the infamous Robin Goodfellow, court jester to King Oberon. Along the way she runs into Ash, the winter prince, third son of Queen Mab. A hot fey who Meghan quickly falls for but their love is forbidden. A summer fey and winter fey are to never mingle. They are eternal enemies not to be fraternized with. But who can deny destined love. Ash was to never love again but even he, being an emotionless; cold-hearted fey, can't push away his feelings. Puck, Meghan, and Ash all set out to find Ethan, Meghan's little brother, from the hands of the Iron Court. The very people who can be the downfall to the oldbloods. Stakes are higher than ever and danger is waiting at every corner.
I had so much fun reading this book and re-read it twice before I got the second one. I recommend these books to every one who loves a bit of love conflict, suspense, emotional ties and a whole lot of sexy! :)...more
