One day after a long stressful night she walks around the towers to the one with door that is always locked. She knows it'll be locked but just to see she pushes and amazingly it opens. Inside is all dusty and it makes her wonder. She starts to think about the night before and she ends up in tears. In this tower is where she meats Gavin for the first time. At first she thinks that it is Cedric, the current Earl of Brierly, but it is Gavin. They have a brief conversation and then Anya leaves. Gavin wonders about this girl and why she was in the tower that he grew up in but he quickly reminds himself that he has another task he needs to get to. As the story goes on Gavin is injured as he is leaving Brierly. He amazingly has enough strength to get back to the stables where his close friend Robbie works. Anya is also good friends with Robbie so in the mornings she will often go and talk to him. Well the night after the accident Anya goes into the stables and sees Robbie with Gavin. Anya jumps at the chance to take care of Gavin because it means that she can leave Brierley and not have to come back. Continuing on in the story Anya takes care of Gavin who is close to death and she knows it. While Anya is doing what she needs to do to take care of him she notices that he has a distinctive birth mark on his shoulder that her great uncle, the earl before Cedric, had. It makes her wonder and she questions who he really is. After Gavin finally wakes up he starts to talk to Anya and they get to know each other but he notices that there is something about her that he can't quite put his finger on. He notices that she has such sad eye. But when he asks her questions she avoids them. Moving way on into the book Gavin and Anya begin to get very close and enjoy each others company. Anya is finally trusting Gavin and giving him answers with out avoiding it. Anya and Gavin decided to get married but more there are some complications that they have to work out. I would tell you but that would ruin the book. Any way in the end they work to resolve the complications and things mostly work out. I really enjoyed reading this book. It was one of the ones that you are so in to it that when your mom tells you to put it down you don't even hear her. I think this book is intended for anyone who is interested in a good love story. Plus there is also some mystery that goes along with it. I think that this book could be put in present day but somethings wouldn't be the same like the maids and the nannies. If we were to place it in modern time it would be kind of like another cinderella but with different twists and turns. My favorite part of this book is that even thought things don't go as planned Gavin and Anya still manage to work it out. I think one of the themes in this book is that if you truly love someone you will find a way to make everything right. If I were to recommend this book to anyone it would be girls my age because its a good book with a good love story.(less)

Usually it takes me a while to finish a book but i finished this one in about two or three days. My sister gave me this book to read and i didn't think that it was going to be very good, I was wrong. It took me a while to get into this book; however once I got into it I was hooked. This book is 263 pages long and it was written by Marcia Lynn McClure. Dusty Britches was published in 2003.
Dust is a nineteen year old young women who has had her heart broken twice, once when she was fourteen and the other when she was seventeen. Dusty lives on a farm with her sister, dad, and the cowhands (cowboys) her dad hires. Dusty has decided that she will never love again but that becomes hard for her when her dad comes home from a cattle drive and he brings back the man (Ryder Maddox) that broke her heart the first time. Dusty finds out that Ryder never intentionally meant to hurt her. But Dusty continues to fight the feelings and love that she has for Ryder because she doesn't want to be hurt again. Through the book Dusty and Ryder have their good moments and their moments of disagreement. Slowly Ryder begins to soften Dusty up and she starts to smile and care again.
This book would not be the same if it were set in a different time period. In the book people are getting married even though they are quite a few years apart. If this were to happen now a days people would consider it weird or wrong but I guess it was okay back then. Another thing that wouldn't work is that they have town socials, we don't do much of that now. One of my favorite things about this book is when dusty is day dreaming there are some funny stories. One of the stories is in the beginning on page 28. Dusty is just a little girl and she is having a tea party with her sister by the creek and Dusty falls in the river and gets soaked. Know that its just her and her sister dusty take her dress off so that she only has her underclothes on. When it is finally time to go back to the house Dusty has to take the tea table back while her sister gets the chairs. When she gets back to the house the leg of the table gets stuck on a tree root and she falls down. When she gets up she tries to get the table again and she falls. In the book it says "Of course, her father, Feller Lance and sever hands burst into laughter as Angelina stoop up and dusted the seat of her bloomers, only then realizing that she has forgotten to put her dress back on." It turns out that this is the way she meets Ryder. A theme that this book illustrates is: You shouldn't push people away that you love because you don't know what you're missing.
If I had to recommend this book I would recommend it to girls my age and older who like love stories because this book is a good love story. I am so glad that I read this book because it is now at the top of my list. Plus this book taught me a lesson that is okay to have a bad day but don't let one person ruin the rest of your life.

The reason I read this book is because it was suggested to me by a friend. "The Secret Hour was written by Scott Westerfeld and it has 297 pages. "The Secret Hour" takes place in a small town called Bixby. This book has many moments that leave you wondering what will happen next. Jessica Day is a 15 year old girl and she moves to Bixby with her family. On the first night Jessica spends in Bixby she has a really weird but realistic dream. The second night Jessica is in Bixby she has the same type of dream but this time its a nightmare. Jessica soon learns that neither of these dreams were dreams, they are actually real and they take place in the secret hour. Rex, Dess, and Melissa are three characters that do the best they can to help Jessica understand what she is and why she is that way. Jessica Day is a midnighter so are Rex, Dess and Melissa. Rex, Dess, and Melissa help Jessica protect herself from the things that wonder around in the secret hour that could possibly bring her harm. As you read further into this book you discover more things about all of the characters and the secret hour. This book could definitely take place in a different place all it would need is the same technology that is found in Bixby. There are many good perks to this book and one of them being that it is Fiction. If this book weren’t fiction I think I might just freak myself out a bit because I am a chicken. Another good thing about this book is that it has good detail. One of my least favorite things about this book is the ending. The ending of this book leaves you hanging but it also helps your imagination go off in all different directions. I think the theme of this book is that if you don't give up eventually you will find your true talent. If had to recommend this book it would be to anyone who can understand it. This boo could easily be read by sixth graders and I think it would be a good book for someone their age. (less)

If it hadn't been for the class the thought would have never crossed my mind to read this book. Rocket boys was published in 1998 and has 384 pages. Do you ever have that feeling when you think you'll hate something just because you are required to do it? Well I had that feeling when I first started this book. But it turns out I was wrong; I actually quite enjoyed this book. Even though it was about science, I liked reading about the adventures of the Coalwood boys. The book is very slow at the beginning but it picks up pace after a while. My favorite part about this book is that after it picks up the pace you keep learning more and more things. The main things you learn about are Homers (Sonnys) life, the other Coalwood boys, and rockets. This book takes place in Coalwood Virginia during the 1950's. It wouldn't be the same if the story were to take place in a different time and place. During this time and in the town of Coalwood the main thing was mining. If you wern't a miner then you either went to college on a scolarship or did something else associated with the mine. Homers mom didn't want him to become a miner, she told him to do his best and to build the rockets. One thing she specifically told him to do was prove his dad wrong, she said "Show him you can do something! Build a rocket!"(p.54) I really liked the fact that his mom supported him the whole time. Rocket boys is a great book. It tells about the life of some boys who wanted something better for themselves. In the book it tells you that Homer (Sonny) wasn't supported by his father until the end, but his mom stuck with him the whole time. Even though the boys had to get through obstacles like where to launch and what to use they were still successful. In the end they make it to nationals and win first place, proving to the people that doubted them, that they could actually succeed. I think the theme of this book is, just because you aren't fully supported doesn't mean you should give up. If I had to recomend this book to anyone I would say someone who likes rockets or reading about peoples lives. I would say no one under the junior high age should read this book beacuse it may become confusing of difficult for them to understand.(less)

It takes place in a small town; Maragrave Georgia. Lee child has your attention at least by the fourth page. It was published in 1997 and has 524 pages. My mom actully recomended Killing Floor to me. This book is filled with mystery and conflict. Jack Reacher the main character arrives in a town in the early afternoon and is suddenly accused of murder. He looks like he is a homeless man; very dirty with long shagy hair. The story reaveals that the person murdered was Jacks brother. Not only did Jack prove himself innocent but he had motivation through the whole book to find who killed his brother. As you get deeper into the story you find out the murder was because of money, and some really greedy people. This book wouldn't be the same if it were in a big city. The ammount of police and FBI that would be working on the case, would change the whole story. One thing I liked about this book would be that it caught my attention at the beginning and I didn't have to force myslef to keep reading. On the second page it says "The guy with the revolver stayed at the door. He went into a crouch and pointed the weapon two-handed. At my head." (p.2) This line really caught my attention and from then on I was hooked. I couldn't put it down simply because I wanted to know what happened. My least favorite part of the book is that it has some nasty stuff in it. Thats not my favorite things to read about because then you get a mental pictur and its just not good. If I had to recomend this book to someone it would be 9th grade and up. Becasue of some of the language and the violence I don't think it would be appropriate for younger people. I would strongly suggest it to mature people who like mystery and action.(less)
