It is a familiar book for students because they know the famous Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. While that book is about the alphabet, this book is about numbers. It makes a great introduction to numbers. The book is written in a story form using the numbers as characters in the book. It rhythms throughout the book so students learn word families and words with the same ending sounds. Also, it involves counting up to 100. Students will need to know how to count to 100 in several ways. The book teaches how to count by 1's and by 10's to 100. Then it does something unique and counts from 100 to 1. ...more

This is a great book for the students to learn how to count to 100. It would be a great book to do on the 100th day of school. I would break this bookThis is a great book for the students to learn how to count to 100. It would be a great book to do on the 100th day of school. I would break this book up into sections or centers for the day (or over a period of time) so they will learn each way to count.

The book rhymes so it keeps the students interested. Also, I would use real M&M's with the students, but first laying down ground rules.

First, the book reviews colors for the students. The colors are important and are used for the activity. The students would count to 10 using the candy then to 20. From there they count to 20 using all the 5 colors. I would use groups of students for this activity. Each student would be responsible for their color. After counting, they are to line up the candy in 2 line of 10. I would count with the students ( I would have pictures of me doing in on the Smart Board for them to see) to 100. I will show the students that they made a 100's chart.

From this point, depending on the time, students, and supplies, I would do it all in one day or over days. Students would use the candy to count by 10's, 5's, and 2's accordingly to the book. And of course the students would be able to eat some of the candy afterwards or take some home. ...more

As a challenge,This book would be good in learning basic math skills. Students can add along with the bears as they add and subtract bears on wheels. As a challenge, students can create their own math problems from using the book. Also, the book can be used for fractions. Students can see a contrast in bears and make fractions on how many bears on the bicycle. For example, on the 4th page, there are three bears on a unicycle. 2 are wearing blue and one is wearing pink. Students can write the fraction of blue bears 2/3 and the fraction of pink bears 1/3, and add them to together 2/3 + 1/3 = 3/3 (1) on one unicyle.

It is an introduction to wheels (transportation through bicycles). Students can learn how many people should be one different types of bicycles.

It can be an reinforcement of learning book genres. Students can learn that bears dont ride bicycles or have multiple people on one bicycle. Student learn from the contents of the book that it is fictional (fantasy) book.

There are slight rhyming in the book (one, none)

I like that the sentence on the pages were really short, but the illustrations told a lot more. Students can make predictions about what will or did happen according to the illustrations. ...more

I have several activities students can do with this book regarding rhyming. - If we are learning certain word families, I would let the students go through books (this one in particular) and find all the words in that word family. For example, the students would have to record all the -at words they found in the book. Then -it, -an, -ip, and so on. Once they found the word families, they have to write the words that are in the word family that is not in the book.

From the students learning words that rhyme and word families. I would have them create a story using word families or rhyming words. I would have them mentor off a page of Dr. Seuss.

The story has a few onomatopoeias. I would use this story to teach students about the effects of them. These type of words are sound words. They don't always sound correct and are not considered real words, but they are useful in describing things. I would have several situations for the students where they would have to create an onomatopoeia that would fit. Example: The fish bowl fell to the ground. They could right CRASH, FLOP, BAM, BOOM, etc.

This would just be a fun read to get the students in the mood to learn and have fun doing it....more
