In Wise Child, you see Juniper as a loving, put together and sensible adult. However in Juniper, she is a compulsive wild child herself. (less)

Boys will eat this up like Halloween candy. It is a little on the dark and gruesome side, but not explicitly so, so I could definitely recommend this for older elementary. Its the ultimate struggle between good and evil, and right in the middle of it is this young teen, Taran the Assistant Pig-Keeper. He wants so much more from life than just being a pig-keeper, but all the adults tell him he's too young to be a warrior. That doesn't stop him though. He gets caught up in all of it, along with his friends, Princess Eilonwy, the bard-king Fflewddur Fflam, Doli of the Fair Folk and Gurgi, his faithful half man/half animal servant. (less)

Much different than I've been used to reading (no zombies, vampires, demons or suicides). Perfect for a girl that's transitioning into teen fiction. Its about growing up and learning who you really are. Finding out who you really want to be. The main character, Drew, is an outsider. Never really fitting in wherever she is. Then she meets Emmett and everything changes. She sees the world around her a little differently. She learns that she can help shape the world. This is a great book. Not perfect, but definitely recommended.(less)

Did I mention dark? The illustrations are gorgeous and the story is fascinating. The characters are fully fleshed out, with each getting their own time, without being overwhelming. This is definitely a read for OLDER teens and adults. There are lots of murders and a couple of other gruesome details, but I think this only reminds us how much the character Sam has been mentally and phsycially torn down by his parents to make him susceptible to outside forces. Yowzah. That's right. I said it. Yowzah.(less)

Igraine is a very strong willed main character, and while she is a girl, I think that all the knights and magic will still appeal to boys. I read it one night, in just a few hours, so it is a nice, quick read.(less)

I think this is the first time I've read Lloyd Alexander, although I can't believe that's true. As a parent, I would like to put the main character, Taran in the corner quite a bit, but he's a boy that likes danger. It seems like the adults treat him like an adult way too easily, even though he's probably twelve years old, if that. I like the fantasy aspects of the book, and I like that the fantastical creatures aren't all happy and tra-la-lally (not a word, I know). The book is quite dark in spots, so I might recommend it for people who like Harry Potter, but probably not those who like Ella Enchanted. :)(less)

Fun and quirky, just like me. :)(less)

His books are so fun and wonderful and I could read them all over and over and over again, which is good because my kids make me read them over and over and over again. This is a quirky about a girl named Amanda and her bargain bin buddy named Alligator. What's even more wonderful is that Amanda spends most of the book reading her LIBRARY BOOKS! Yay!(less)

Still it was a great story and I loved all the characters and couldn't wait to find out what happened to them.(less)
