He's excellent at weaving a story that has me waiting on the edge of my seat for each move of the characters. I thought Kevin and Shin's story was sweet. Attraction at first sight on both sides, however it wasn't an easy HEA. Jeff built some angst and threw in some obstacles for the characters to overcome. I loved the main characters as well as the secondary ones. (Marshall was a great best friend.)
The audio version added a special treat that took this experience over the edge. Jason Frazier's narration was incredible! This is the first full book I've listened to done by him and I was blown away by his ability to do other characters. He had a specific sound for Kevin as the main, but then he totally gave Shin the accent needed to portray his Asian heritage. And then Jason did female voices and secondary character voices all of which were distinct from the others. Well done!
Over all, I recommend the audio!! :) It is a fun listen! Additionally, anyone who reads my reviews knows I have a harder time with YA. They are normally very clean and I like a little spice. This book had enough sexual tension to keep me going and a satisfying fade to black. ...more

Anyway… I gave it 4 stars. There were moments that were a 5 for me, especially some of the plot I wasn't expecting because I didn't read the blurb. This was a case of binge buying and I love soccer and I bought a couple audio books by the cover and the voice sample of the narrator. The narrator was very good. I cried listening to the book and that was great, but not enough for me to push it to 5 stars.
I found some things in it repeated so often i got annoyed. One moment I thought, "No, I don't see that happening," and it pulled me out of the book. (Well, my listening trance) Therefore, I personally could not give it a five star rating.
I also thought the build up took the entire book. I get the point, but it is over 6 hours.
It IS a good story. It WAS a great book to listen to. I even thought of a person to recommend it to and I shall when I'm done here. I think it would be great in the "Misfits" bookshelf of GGR Reviews. This has some deep subjects and I think they were handled well.
Over all I was pleased with the book and I would recommend it if you are looking for something light--it is YA after all. It is extremely clean. And when I say light, most of it is. The teammates dying part that I didn't see mentioned in the blurb IS NOT LIGHT!!!! It's painful. Do I recommend it? Yes. I liked it a lot....more

I've discovered that although I do not "read" often because I lack time, I CAN listen to books. I am in my car ALL THE TIME!!!!! I can also listen while cooking, cleaning, or doing laundry. So, now I have a Josh Lanyon addiction and I have to get more of his books!
I love Adrien's personality. And even if some readers do not care for Jake (so I've heard), I do. I think he is very well written. Yes, the tentative relationship is frustrating, yet very understandably so. This is also a mystery novel, not a romance. The romance IN IT, is not the driving plot point. It is the mystery.
In A Dangerous Thing, I felt the flavor of Jordan L. Hawk's writing. Both mystery writers, Jordan writes paranormal historical, but I felt the same style. So, if you like Josh Lanyon, you may like Jordan L. Hawk as well.
I recommend this book. I enjoyed it. So much so, I have the rest of the series and I am now a member of Audible.com so I can further feed my addiction. (I also blame Jeff Adams for that as he recommended Audible.)
So, thank you Josh for writing memorable characters!! :)...more

I had listened to The Ghost Wore Yellow Socks somewhat recently and I knew I already liked Josh Lanyon's style of writing. So, upon recommendation and the fact I was driving back home and had a 5 hour trip, I downloaded Fatal Shadows. WOW. What fun driving became.
This is a terrific book. I like the style of writing, I like the personality of the main character Adrien, and I like how I was drawn into the story and didm;t want it to end. The way Josh Lanyon weaves in references to things like "Johnny Quest" etc, just made me laugh out loud. LOVE those references that I totally get! Thank you Josh for writing I terrific mystery that kept my ears perked the whole drive.
And, because it was so interesting, I came home and bought the second one in the series....more
